Oy the greens.......

This course has spectacular views, challenging holes but the greens? Furry does not do it justice. I think the aerated or cross-cut a few weeks ago, and I'm not sure why they aren't rolling them at the least. Unpredictable, bumpy putts did not make for a good day on the greens. Several tee boxes were very torn up - not sure why that was. The few bunkers I found myself in had very little sand - hard, crunchy and thin. Fairways in decent shape - some over seeding of the rough made it challenging. I do like the course but for the money at least put some effort into the bunkers and keep the greens rolling smooth. Pace of play? Almost 5 hours for a 12:04 Wednesday start. Not great and never seen any Marshall either. I will say, they have the best carts though - super comfy high class ones.

Not doing well in the pandemic

First time back here in a year or two. First complaint - where did the value in the Hot Deals go? Used a $20 promo code for a $17 walking round. 2nd complaint. No carts on front 9, then full price for the back nine if wanted? 3rd conplaint- uneven poorly kept tee boxes. 4th - fairways either hardpan or weed clumps. 5th - greens had some kind of sheen so the ball skidded rather than rolled. 6th - saw a group of 7 playing #15. As a single, front 9 in a leisurely hour. Back 9 will be over 2 hours - unacceptable for an Executive course. Wont be back.

Why So Much?

Treated myself to a $45 late weekday round (3:42 tee time) through GolfNow VIP as a single. Personally I like to pay no more than $30-35 for a round, and less for a twilight or super-twilight. Most courses around here, if you are not off by 3:30, you will not finish 18 holes before dark. there was supposed to be a twosome joining me, but they were a no show. Played in 3 hours 15 minutes, taking extra practice shots, practice putts, etc. Also had a twosome in front (A dad teaching his daughter). Could have asked to play through but I was in no hurry. There were maybe a few other groups on the course as best I could tell. The green fees scare away the riff-raff. I think they could get more play with some slight adjustment to the fees, especially weekdays. Honestly if you can afford to play here often, you should just join a country club.

Course review: Nice new carts with state of the art GPS. Pro Shop attendant was pleasant enough, but not super friendly. I did see the cart girl twice on the front nine, and she was super-nice, but she was done at 6pm so nothing on the back nine. Greens are large and roll pretty well, and fairly smooth. Fix your pitch marks people! Tee boxes and fairways were recently aerated, but that didn't really affect anything. It's a desert-style course with a couple of forced carries into the greens. spray it around the course and you will have several lost balls. And no looking for them unless you want to find rattlesnakes! Fairways were hard and fast, probably due to the drought conditions. Usually my longer drives are 260-270, but I had a couple that were 270-290, sans much wind. Lots of bunkers! It's a nice course but for the premium price I would expect a little more lush-ness. Overall a nice experience and would play here again for the right price, but it's not something I could afford on a regular basis. Wish they would offer the Hot Deals to singles, as typically it's either as a 2-some or 4-some only.

Walked

A nice walk

First me playing here, used a Hot Deal Tee Time made the night before (Not sure how a $9 round when $16 is the going rate equates to a 62% off, but I can figure out if it's a good deal or not). First off - the check-in: The woman at the desk was on the phone with a customer and instead of politely asking me to wait, which I would have done, she asked me what I needed. I told her I had a Golf Now booking, and kind of rolled her eyes, told me she didn't have the information (without looking at a computer or print-out), handed me a pen and paper and asked me to write down the confirmation number. She asked me if I knew where to go and I said it was my first time here - so she told the person on the phone she needed to hang up and help me. Not sure why she needed to show me where #1 was, since it was right out the door and clearly marked! While waiting on a twosome on the green on #1, she asked if I minded another single join me, which I did not mind. I was told by the single she initially told him "we don't do that", but he rightly insisted so we played together, and had a nice time together.

Pace of play was good. Tee boxes were a bit scruffy, but not unplayable. Greens in good shape. Some of the fairways/rough areas were hit or miss, with bare spots or overgrown rough in some spots. Weird big tree blocking direct line to the pin on #2! Some long par 3s, so not an easy little course. The par 4s were challenging enough - driver is not needed at all. Weird thing about having to cross a major street to get to holes 7-9, but I could use the exercise! I think it would have been another $8 to replay, but I chose not to. Is it worth $24 to walk and play 18 holes here (weekend rate)? In my opinion if you wanted to walk, there are better options for you to spend your $24. At a Hot Deal rate it's worth a trip though.
