Pace of Play Kills an Otherwise Exceptional Course

Loved just about everything about this course. Facilities were beautiful (driving range was a little small, but that's a minor complaint), prices were reasonable, and course was in phenomenal condition. Greens were even, smooth, and very quick. Obviously still in conditions for US Open qualifying. Lots of temporary water in certain areas of back 9 which required some unique cart routing, but all 18 holes were playable in full. Beautiful scenery throughout. Tough course, but in a fair and extremely fun way. Definitely tested me, but I never felt like I was getting beat up at all.

However, pace of play was dreadful. Initially started out as a single player then joined up with another single on the course. Other players in front of us were not friendly to us playing through, even though they were two groups of three that were basically playing as a group of six. Group in front of them was some sort of fraternity or other organized group that were plastered drunk and moving as essentially two or three groups of around six golfers each. No marshalls out to move any of them along or force people to keep up with those in front. Round of golf took about 5hrs 15 mins, which is about an hour longer than it probably should have. Did an awful lot of waiting on the back 9.

Easily one of the best tracks I've played so far in Texas, and well worth the money. But honestly, I'm not sure I'll come back again without a good reason to do so, or until I hear that they've started putting marshalls out to enforce pace of play and move slow groups forward.

Great! We're glad that our course conditions met your expectations and that you enjoyed the challenge of our layout. We apologize that the pace of play was slow and we appreciate your feedback. We look forward to having you back again soon for your next round with us!

A Hidden Gem

I can't afford a trip to Scotland, so this was the next-best thing, especially with the cool and grey skies overhead making it feel like a true Scottish links. And to top it off, the architects did a phenomenal job replicating some of the most famous holes from some legendary courses.

Course is in immaculate condition. There was some standing water in a few places, but it poured with rain the entire prior night and most of the morning so it's completely understandable. Only complaint is the greens, which were recently sanded and generally very slow, but somewhat inconsistent. Certain holes were lightning-quick while others you couldn't hit the ball hard enough. Nonetheless they were at the very least smooth and lines were readable.

Playing partner and I were kind of all over the place, and with cart path only rule in effect we wound up doing a lot of walking to and from our ball the entire afternoon. Nonetheless, we finished in almost exactly four hours. It wasn't the busiest day because of all the rain, but course marshalls were present and active, making sure things moved along.

Twilight play green fees were highly reasonable for a course of this quality as well, and their Players Club makes the fees even cheaper. Will happily come back many, many times.

Great Layout, Crappy Greens

Pretty course. Several very picturesque holes with fun challenges. Forgiving for novice golfers but challenging for skilled players. Staff were all friendly and helpful. On-course refreshments from the cart girl were surprisingly reasonable in cost. Aside from the fact that our cart felt like it was about to die any second for the entire duration of the round, I very much enjoyed it. Fairways and tee boxes were in great shape.

The greens, however, were atrocious. Bumpy, uneven, sanded, gritty, un-receptive, and super hard. Made putting nearly impossible. Even the best-read put had a chance of going offline by four to six inches purely because of cracks and uneven texture. And we discovered this after the starter told us that the greens were in "great shape" and "super fluffy and receptive" that day. They were anything but. I'll come back again, but not until the greens are fixed.
