Makefield Highlands Golf Club
Played On 04/06/2024Fun track
A fun course, wide open, well kept, and a change of pace from the norm in the area.
Jeffersonville Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2022Best Muni in the Philadelphia Area
Amazing design, layout, conditions were superb. I have played a lot of golf, but this is my favorite public course in the area and it is not close. Reasonable rates for a private club experience on the course.. Kudos to the great work the staff is doing here.
Mercer Oaks Golf Course - East Course
Played On 09/26/2020John F. Byrne Golf Course
Played On 08/17/2019Frustrated.
Have played John Byrne countless times, but today was beyond frustrating. We teed off at 4:40 and were not told we had to bring the carts in at any certain time, so we assumed we could play until sundown. On the 16th hole, at 7:15pm(40 minutes before the sunset) we were told we could not continue as the cart has to be in. Ridiculous. No notice, plenty of sunlight. We literally had another 45 minutes to finish our round. I didn’t pay for 16 holes. Even as we were told to finish the hole we were on, the cart attendant pulled the pin off the green as we drove to our second shots even after we were told we could finish that hole. If we were given a heads up at check in, that would’ve been one thing but it was completely uncalled for to cut our round short because someone wanted to go home early. Won’t be coming back anytime soon and be aware they have zero regard for customers. I get Byrne is a Philly muni but still, not acceptable.
Middletown Country Club
Played On 05/25/2019Disappointed.
Historically, Middletown has been one of my favorite courses, but my experience today was extremely disappointing. Typically, if a course is having aeration on the greens GolfNow will make a note, but I did not receive anything and the green conditions were not great. It’s tough paying full price on Memorial Day weekend to play on aerated, sandy greens without notice.
Additionally, there were pins that were in spots they should just not have been on several holes, including 10 and 17 where even as a solid golfer I felt like those greens were not even close to accessible or score-able.
Finally, the gentleman in the pro shop scolded me for being “late” even though I was in the pro shop 15 minutes prior to our tee time. He also lectured me as our fourth had not arrived yet. We teed off on time and we’re ready to go, I understand it’s a Saturday and busy but lecturing me about being on time when I was probably isn’t the greatest way to show hospitality.
I love Middletown, hopefully this was an isolated poor experience but I definitely felt wronged and will hesitate playing here next time.
Overall, in my other experiences it has been a great track and a great experience. Seemed very uncharacteristic.
Neshaminy Valley Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2018Greens were in awful shape.
I have played Neshaminy Valley before, but this will be the last time. The greens were in horrible shape, dried out, brown, and full of bumps and divots. At least 75% had old punch out hole marks which were uneven and not possible to putt through.
Due to the lack of hydration on & around the greens and the horrible pin placements, this course was unplayable. Very disappointed. Always liked this course had charm and a fun setup but conditions were that of a run down chip and putt course.
McCullough's Emerald Golf Links
Played On 07/31/2015Great layout/value
This course was a great find while on vacation in OCNJ. We played it twice during our week down here, and loved the course. It is a true links layout with blind shots, fast greens, and breezy wide open conditions. It is a good course for any level of experience, and balances a challenge with an ability to score with smart shots off the tee. Overall enjoyable experience and cool change up to the normal golf course layout of the Philadelphia/Jersey Shore area.
Hi Shawn, thanks for your feedback. We are sorry about the lack of communication about this policy and that you were on the short end of it. Unfortunately, we've experienced consistent issues over the past couple of years where local teens and young adults steal the pins if we leave them in close to dark. As such, we've had to adopt stricter policies regarding pins and carts. Regardless, the staff should have communicated this with you and for that we apologize. If you have other comments or concerns, please email info.johnbyrne@golfphilly.org. Have a great day!
