Springdale Country Club
Played On 06/21/2018Coming back
I used to play this course regularly when I lived in the area, but moved five years ago. Before I left the place was going downhill, and playing conditions really suffered. I heard that they had new owners and, since I needed to spend the day in the area, wanted to see for myself how things were progressing. I'm happy to report that the course is on the way back. The greens are in very good shape, tees and fairways are coming along, and the staff is giving excellent customer service. A wonderful improvement to a great course.
Island Pointe Golf Club
Played On 04/30/2018Always challenging
River Islands and I have a love hate relationship. I love all the scenery and most of the layout, and I hate the third hole. This par three over the river beats me up every time I play it. An accurate shot to the green is a must and anything short or right means a trip to the drop zone. Speaking of which, why is the never a sign showing where the dz is? The fifth hole has one.
Patriot Hills Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2017A great day at Patroit Hills
I like to visit this course a few times a year. I like that fact that it is 6- par 3's, 6-par 4's and 6-par 5's. I gives methe opportunity to work on every part of my game. The course is not overly hard, but you can make it so if you get on the wrong side of the fairways on many of the holes. It's usually in good condition, especially considering the amount of play it gets.
Egwani Farms Golf Course
Played On 03/26/2017Big Improvement
I had not played this course in a few years and was impressed in the improvements they have made. The course is much more playable now. They have opened up some areas which have really helped. For this time of year, the greens were is excellent shape. I'll be back again (when its not raining).
Brasstown Valley Resort
Played On 10/14/2016Confusing Start - Good ending
Brasstown is a great course with excellent conditions on a challenging layout. My only complaint came right at the start. I had a 10:50 tee time. I was at the first tee at 10:45 and was told that my group had already gone. The starter said that he "couldn't find me" and so he sent them out. He first suggested that I rush out to the second hole to catch up with them, then wanted me to tee off between two foursomes on the first hole. I chose I'd go out to the second, and so he rush me out to the middle of the fairway to get started. Come to find out he did the same to another player in the group. Once I got settled down I enjoyed the rest of the round, but my score certainly represented the rushed start.. If you are not going to honor your tee times, don't make them.
White/Blue at Dandridge Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/21/2016A Good Experience
Dandridge has three nines, White, Red and Blue. The pro shop had me start on the Blue, because it had the least number of players. Very good! The blue course is the farthest from the clubhouse, so it takes you some time to get out to number one, including passing through some other holes, so watch out. Number one has a confusing layout right off the tee, so its probably best to be with someone who knows their way around. Whe you are finished with the blue course, you once again have to drive through active fairways of the other courses, so pay attention!
Overall the course was in good shape, but I would suggest that there be more education on how to repair pitch marks on greens, as I repaired at least three on nearly every green.
Chickasaw Point Golf Course
Played On 07/22/2016Looking Up
My title reflects the fact that nearly every hole plays to an uphill fairway or green. This course has a lot of blind shots, so it's not easy for a first timer. I found the greens to be very slow as well. This is a one and done for me.
Highland Walk at Victoria Bryant
Played On 07/24/2015Put on your climbing shoes
Highland Walk is not a walk at all, it's a climb. In fact, I can't imagine anyone walking this course. You are either hitting uphill or downhill on every shot, usually to a blind location. The par 5,18th is an extreme uphill hole, that would make a great ski slope. It requires three very good shots too get to the green.
Overall the course is in good shape and the greens were very good. They are the older, grainy Bermuda grass, so your putts must be accurate.
I've played three of the GA State Park courses now, and this one comes in second behind Arowhead Point at Richard B. Russell.
RiverWatch Golf Club
Played On 05/29/2015Where is the River?
I booked this course based on the reviews, and they were spot on regarding the course conditions. It is in very good condition. The overall layout is very hilly, so you are always shooting either up or down. The front nine is fun while the back nine has a number of blind shots, so it's probably better the second time around.
What I couldn't understand was where was the river? With a name like RiverWatch, I thought that this would be a scenic course with river views. But there was no river to be seen. Only one hole, number 13 was "picture worthy"
So if you are looking for a a course in great shape, this is it. Just don't expect any "river" views.
Patriot Hills Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2015Patroit Hills
I've played this course many times and it usually is in good condition. This day the greens were very good, but there were several areas throughout the course where the grass was spotty or missing. This was especially true around the collars of the greens. My biggest complaint was the fact that none of their crates have rain hoods. The carts themselves are older and really need a through cleaning.
Sevierville Golf Club - Highlands Course
Played On 11/05/2014Always Fun
With two very different courses, I'm always torn as to which one of Sevierville Golf Clubs I prefer. The Highlands or the River. Each has its own distinct challenges, The Highlands plays to a par 70, due to several par 3's. This is the shot makers course, requiring you to be very accurate at nearly all of the greens. Be on that day and you will be rewarded with a great score. Having an off day and it can beat you up.
Avalon Country Club
Played On 10/26/2014A surprise awaits
Avalon is a very nice course with easy access off I-40. There are some great holes along with some average holes. Overall the courses was in very good shape except the bunker, which need sand. I actually hit a shot into one and the surface was so hard, the ball bounced out. I must admit that I was really expecting even better conditions considering the high-end houses along most of the fairways I did not eat in the clubhouse but I noticed that they had some specials. I also noticed that the merchandise in the pro shop was lacking. There is also a lot of noise from the interstate nearby.
I will be back for a great golf course, however.
Rarity Bay Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/28/2014A Great Day at Rarity Bay
Course was in great shape, pace of play was fast. I would play here again.
Longleaf Golf & Family Club
Played On 06/23/2014Longleaf describes the grass
I was in the Pinehurst area for a charity tournament, so my foursome decided on a practice round here at Longleaf. The overall look and layout of the course was fine. It's built on the ground of the former race track for the Village of Pinehurst, and there are several holes on the front nine with track rails and other pieces left to give you a feel of the place. Just like the grass you saw in the US Open, there were also brown areas in the fairways. The biggest problem were the greens. They were slow due to the length of the grass. It appeared that they had not been cut in some while.
Overall we had a good experience. I just wish that the greens had putted better.
As a follow up, when i drove past this course the next morning I saw that they were cutting them.
Sevierville Golf Club - River Course
Played On 06/01/2014A Great Round at The River
The River course at Sevierville Golf Club is always challenging. Most greens are tricky, so it helps to play here several times to be able to read them. Today several pins were cut right at the top of a peak, which means that your putt was either in the cup or rolled a mile past it. The greens have healed nicely since they were punched a few weeks ago.
Considering that this course is owned and operated by the city of Sevierville, it is a great facility and fun and convenient to play.
Wild Laurel Golf Course
Played On 05/24/2014A Day at Laurel Valley
I've played here before and was looking forward to returning. I got a great deal through GolfNow, which made it even better. Unfortunately we got behind a group of eight, many of whom appeared to have never played before. The round was 5 hours and we waited on every shot. Overall the course was in bad need of rain, with many of the fairways brown and cut very short. You almost looked forward to being in the rough because you could at least get a club under your ball. We did see the beverage cart often, which was a plus.
Laurel Valley is a great course. I just hit it at a bad time.
Sequoyah National Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2013Bring Your "A" Game
Sequoyah is a relatively new course carved out of the mountains in Cherokee, NC. There are many scenic holes, with great views of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. But don't get distracted by the scenery, because to score well you must hit your ball in the right place. There is lots of trouble waiting for you if you get to far to one side of the fairway or the other. The day we played they had a temporary hole for the par 3 second hole, that was going through re-construction. Unfortunately, this is the second time I've played here and had to use this temporary hole. The GSP in the cart is great, and even gives you a fly-over description of each hole. They also provide free range balls, however you have to hit off a mat.
Sequoyah will be a great course someday, but it needs a few more years to mature.
Island Pointe Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2013Always in good condition
River Islands is a great course for the money. They installed new greens last year and they still need some time to mature. I found the greens to putt well, but they are still hard and it's difficult to hold a shot. I think that I only repaired one ball mark during the round.
This course is very scenic, especially the holes where the river winds around it. You will enjoy yourself here.
Bent Creek Golf Course
Played On 9/18/2013A Good Value
Bent Creek for the most part was in good shape. The fairways were well covered with a mix of Bermuda and other local grasses. They were cut and the ball sat up nicely. The greens were in good shape, although putts were slow. Most ball marks were fixed, but there will always be people who will not fix their marks, so you can usually find one or two that need attention.
The layout consists of two different nines. The front nine is open, with creeks and ponds that will make you pay attention. The back nine moves through the woods, with that ever present water, to make shot placement critical.
If there is any negative, it is the ever present bugs that are all around you. Be prepared with some spray if you go.
Millstone Golf Club
Played On 6/21/2013A good value
Fairways and tees were in good shape. The greens had been "painted", something you expect to see in the winter when the Bermuda is dormant. They were very firm and did not hold a shot.
Thank you for your review. We have completed the re-construction of Hole #2 and are very excited about how it came out. We plan on re-opening the hole in the Spring of 2014. Due to the unfortunate incident, we've had to stay on the mats for the driving range this season so that the grass area could be utilized as a temporary Hole #2 in order to provide an 18 hole round for our guests. Thanks again and please come back to play our new hole next Spring!
