About
I am a 4 handicap who occasionally breaks par when the putter heats up. I have gone from a bomber to a straight hitter thanks to an expanding waistline and a bad back. I enjoy playing different shots, so love playing links style golf and playing in the wind. I intend to spend my retirement enjoying as many different courses as I can. Golf Now will certainly help the cause by making this more affordable.

New Smyrna Golf Club
Played On 03/01/2024Donald Ross Say No More
I always try to play any Donald Ross courses I find during my travels. New Smyrna is a Ross muni that certainly fits the bill. It’s not fancy, but it’s a great layout and it’s in pretty decent shape.
I paid thirty bucks for a Hot Deal time, so the price was definitely right. If you’re in the area, give New Smyrna a try.
The Club at Pelican Bay - North Course
Played On 02/27/2024It’s Not Pristene, But It’s Not Bad
Having read some mixed reviews about Pelican Bay, I decided to find out for myself. The price was fifty bucks because I didn’t manage to get a Hot Deal. So, it wasn’t exactly a bargain, but it wasn’t terrible. The course was actually in okay shape, except for some patchy greens that were also pretty slow. Still, my buddy and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as did the lovely French Canadian lady who joined us.
It was good enough that I booked another game. I recommend that you give Pelican Bay a try—especially if you can score a Hot Deal.
Crystal Coast Country Club
Played On 02/19/2024Tricky Layout with Fast Greens
I have played this course several times on my latest trip to this neck of the woods. I was paying at the club because, for reasons unknown to me, the Hot Deal price was twenty bucks more than the walk-in rate. That has now been rectified.
The course isn’t long, but it’s fairly tight. If you tend to spray the ball, make sure you bring lots of ammo. It has an interesting assortment of holes, and the greens are quick. The first few times out they really had my number.
The staff are friendly, as are the locals if you happen to get paired up with them. I recommend you give this course a try if you are in the area. Now that the Hot Deal price has been adjusted, it’s not a bad deal at under forty bucks.
The Beaufort Club
Played On 02/04/2024Excellent Course
It was my first time playing this terrific course. I was greeted by two friendly and helpful staff, one of whom took me to my cart and explained where everything was. There were free range balls on offer on a well-maintained range that offered numerous targets and turf to hit off. The course is a serious layout. I played from the gold tees which were apparently 5800 yards but played more like 6100 in the cold and the wind.
The only downside is that if you have mobility issues as I do it is a tough walk. In fact, it damned near killed me. I should have checked before I went out to see if they had blue flags and could turn off the automatic shutoff when you venture beyond the cart signs.
In any case, I thought the course was terrific. It was in great shape, especially the greens, and I enjoyed the layout, even though I found it pretty tough. I definitely recommend that anyone in the area play here at least once. You won’t be disappointed.
Eagle's Landing
Played On 01/31/2024Absolute Gem of a Muni
I don’t know how I missed this course during my previous visits to Ocean City. Perhaps it wasn’t on GolfNow then. At any rate, this course is great. Lots of lovely marsh and water views, hardly any homes, and great conditioning on this interesting layout. Add to that friendly and helpful staff, and what more can you ask for. Because of the time of year and the rain they’ve had, it was cartpath only. But even for an old cripple like me that didn’t dampen my enthusiasm for playing this course. It will definitely be top of my list for courses to play when I’m in this neck of the woods.
The Club at Pine Forest
Played On 11/03/2023Best Bang for your Buck
I have played maybe half a dozen rounds this year at Pine Forest. It is my go-to club when I’m in the Charleston area.
It’s a very challenging layout, playing just shy of 6300 yards from the white tees. There is plenty of water and OB on this course, and most greens are elevated and seem to have a lot of elephants buried in them, so, if you want to score, you had better have your wits about you.
The only downside is that the course can be very wet, especially after a rain. Of course this isn’t that odd for a low country course, but Pine Forest seems wetter than most. .
Still, it is the best bang for your buck in the area and, if you like a challenge, you won’t be disappointed. The staff are friendly, too. I recommend you give Pine Forest a try.
Links at Wild Dunes Golf Links
Played On 11/28/2022Pretty Muc as Good as it Gets
It was my first time playing this course, and other than it being cartpath only it was a great experience. Pace of play was great. The course was in excellent condition and the layout was great.
It was really quite good value for the money given how good the course is. I’d highly recommend that anyone visiting Charleston make the time to play this gem.
Hidden Hills Golf Course
Played On 11/08/2022Another Good Palmer Design
I routinely play Hidden Hills when visiting Jacksonville. It’s a good course for a good price. It was originally an Arnold Palmer design that I hear has undergone some changes. I always seem to enjoy Arnie’s designs. They tend to be fun, reasonably challenging, and pleasing to the eye. Hidden Hills is no different in this respect. We played in high winds today, so the course beat us up a bit more than usual. I’d recommend this course to anyone.
Carolina Colours Golf Club
Played On 03/15/2022Nice Course
I really enjoyed my round at Carolina Colours. It’s on a great property, with enough variety in tee boxes to make it playable for anyone. They haven’t over-seeded, so the course was still brown and the grass sparse in places. The greens weren’t great, but they were okay. The day was improved by having joined a nice couple who live nearby.
I suspect the course will be really good as the weather improves and the bermuda grass comes to life. But I’m headed back today and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending that anyone check this place out.
Crystal Coast Country Club
Played On 03/06/2022Fun Course
This club has made some improvements since I last played it about 10 years ago. The greens are in excellent condition, especially for this time of year. And they’re quick.
The layout is interesting and quite tricky, especially from the tee, where you sometimes need to fit it into fairways, either around or over trees. And the wind is a big factor, as it blows all the time.
I really enjoyed playing here. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend you play this course if you are in the area.
Roundel Glen Golf Club
Played On 05/29/2021GreatLayout
My buddies and I almost all love this layout, with many interesting holes that demand every shot in the book if you’re going to score.
In years gone by, course conditioning has sometimes been a bit of an issue. But this year the fairways are better and the greens are good.. We’re playing Roundel again tomorrow.
The Club at Pine Forest
Played On 01/29/2020Good Course and Great Value
I play Pine Forest whenever I am in the area. The course is an interesting design, with many multi tiered and elevated greens. It is a challenge for golfers of any level. And the novice players should bring lots of ammo and their sense of humour.
Golf Club At Wescott Plantation - Oak Forest Course
Played On 01/28/2020Friendly Place and Good Course
I play Wescott whenever I’m in the Charleston area. It’s a welcoming place with three nines—one of which was unfortunately closed for work being completed. They are sinking some money into the place redoing the bunkers. Because the one nine was closed we experienced some slow play. But we still enjoyed the course. It’s well worth a visit. Shout out to Maggie the starter. She is a gem.
Bacon Park Golf Course
Played On 01/27/2020A Donald Ross Gem
While Bacon Park is a mini and not in pristine condition, it is another example of Ross’s genius. It is fun to play for any caliber of player; lots of room off the tee, room to run the ball into the greens and no forced carries. It’s bargain to play. Staff are friendly. And, if you appreciate great golf course design, you need to visit Bacon Park. And, did I mention what a bargain it is?
Gage Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2019Good Layout
The Gage is not in the best of shape. Greens have been punched and haven't recovered yet. The fairways are rough. But the course is layed out not unlike some Donald Ross courses I've played. Interesting holes that force you to think and be able to move the ball both ways if you hope to score. Greens are elevated and challenging, but allow you to run the ball up. I really enjoy the course and the people. If you are able to walk, it's an unbeatable value. I have to rent a cart, but still think it's a great deal for the money.
Glenlakes Golf Club - Vista/Dunes Course
Played On 12/24/2018Must Play
Friendly staff, memorable holes, and great price. GlenLakes is one of my must plays when I'm in the area. I particularly like the Dunes nine even though it can beat you up. Make sure you pick the right tees if you want to enjoy yoourself.
Roundel Glen Golf Club
Played On 08/18/2017Old School Gem
Roundel Glen was a military golf course and is situated next to tne air field at CFB Trenton. Steve has trouble focussing here because he flies and can't resist watching all the air traffick. It's a terrific and challenging layout, with doglegs galore, mature trees, and fairly small, firm greens that run very true and are relatively quick. Fairways are a bit rough in spots. Cart paths are a mess. But I really enjoy the course. If you haven't played it, you definitely should. It's worth it just for the planes!
Salt Creek Golf Links
Played On 11/15/2015Very Nice Short Course
I haven't played this course for about fifteen years until yesterday. It was in great condition. It is a short course, but there are some challenging holes, some scenic holes, and for this time of year it was in fantastic condition. It would appeal to ladies, seniors, and beginners, but is fun to play for low handicappers as well. I'm playing it again tomorrow.
Warkworth Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2015Interesting Course
I played Warkworth as a single, starting off in a Scotch mist. The course was understandably wet, but in good condition. The greens are in good condition and, despite some short holes starting out, there are some real good holes, with elevation changes and a creek to contend with. I would recommend this course to anyone. Although I played alone, I encountered some friendly members, and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
John,
Thank you so much for coming and playing. We are very pleased you that you had a great time. We appreciate the positive feedback and 4 star rating!
Silver Brooke Golf Club
Played On 08/09/2015Lovely Course
This was my first time playing this lovely course. You are surrounded by nature as you play this rather challenging layout. I paired up and played from the whites, which somewhat hampered my ability to get the full enjoyment from this interesting layout. From the whites many of the holes were very short and took the driver out of my hand. Nevertheless, I really liked the course and the company.
Hi, John2531081. Thank you so much for your feedback. We are glad you had enjoyed your time at Hidden Hills Golf Course, and pride ourselves on delivering the best experience possible.
We hope to see you again soon!
