Catawba Creek Golf Course
Played On 04/16/2018Greens are in good shape - fairways not so much
I will probably give this course another shot at some point. I thought that a $28 senior rate on a weekday was steep considering the overall quality of the course (when there are better quality courses at a lower rate available in the area). The fairways and tee boxes were fairly rough (not very good grass - lots of clover). The greens, however, were in good shape. The course should be better marked, so you could be sure you were going to the correct tee box (for the first timer).
Double Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2017Very pleasant surprise.
I had not played here in years. I and my buddy were the dew sweepers this morning and got around the course very quickly. The course has been redesigned since I last played here and in each case where a hole had been changed, it was an improvement. As I am a senior, the weekday rates are reasonable. I am looking forward to the next early morning I can make it out there.
Chimney Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2017Unfortunately the greens are gone.
From tee to green the conditions are very good, but unfortunately there is very little grass on the greens. We wondered why the parking lot was almost empty when we pulled in, but we soon discovered that it had to be the condition of the greens. It was like putting on worn out indoor outdoor carpeting. I like the design of the course (I have never seen it in better condition from tee to green) and look forward to coming back if and when they get the greens back.
University of Georgia Golf Course
Played On 03/21/2017Great day on a great course
The weather was wonderful and the course is in very good shape for early spring. The only minor fault was that the greens were a little bumpy and slower than you would expect due to the punch marks not being totally healed yet. In a couple of weeks, conditions should excellent. I look forward to my next trip back here. Everyone was very friendly from the starter to the two groups who invited us (a twosome) to play through.
Silo Run Golf Course
Played On 06/10/2016Excellent greens
The course layout is a little more demanding than my game can stand. The greens were in great shape, the fairways were average and the rough was very thick (rough can be as thick as the course desires - some places were almost impossible to escape but punishment for missing the fairway is to be expected). It is not a course I would play on a regular basis, but I will enjoy it on the rare occasion I find myself in the area.
Deer Brook Golf Club
Played On 06/08/2016Awesome golf course
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this course is. I would place it in the top ten among courses I have played in the southeast. I immediately started to plan a way to have another crack at it. Hopefully I can convince my Atlanta golf buddies to make the three + hour drive to enjoy this great golfing experience.
The Pearl Golf Links - West Course
Played On 09/10/2015Excellent experience at Pearl East
The course was really in good shape and is an excellent design. The greens could have been in better shape (they weren't bad, just not as smooth as one might expect). I really enjoyed the day. It will certainly be on my list of courses to play the next time I am in Calabash.
Brierwood Golf Club
Played On 09/08/2015Good layout; very wet conditions
I would like to play this course sometime when it was fairly dry. There had been quite a bit of rain lately and many of the holes were rather mushy. It was carts path only which I don't mind but there was so much casual water in the fairways, it was tough to find a suitable place to place your ball. I should have used "lift, clean and place" but I played it down. That was my mistake. I enjoyed the layout and would enjoy trying it again when it is drier.
Parkland Golfer's Club
Played On 05/05/2014Interesting Design
As I saw that this course had no reviews and I knew I was going to be in the area, I thought I would give it a go (I find reviews very helpful when venturing out into new territory). My review must be mixed. The course is pretty much presented in its natural state (fairways mowed but do not appear to be watered, natural grasses, very hard turf with lots of roll). The greens looked really bad, baked out, but surprisingly, they rolled pretty straight. The bunkers are more like waste areas but could be improved if golfers would rake out their footprints after they play. I would not mind giving the course another go because the design is interesting and the knowledge I gained yesterday would be helpful (pay attention to the hole layouts posted on the signs at each teeing area). I cannot recommend the course to my friends because they have much higher expectations than I do. Parkland reminds of the course I played on when I first picked up the game in the early 70's.
Mountain View at Callaway Gardens Resort
Played On 11/22/2013great day at Mountain View
I really enjoyed my round at Mountain View. Surprisingly there were not many golfers on the course and I played at a very quick pace. It was a little long for my game from the white tees (6600+) but I buckled up and gave it a go. The greens rolled true once you got on them. Most are well guarded by deep bunkers in front (as should be expected by a course that hosted a tour event, the Buick Challenge as recently as 2002). The well placed fairway bunkers seemed to have" ball magnets" in them as many of my better drives seemed to find them. I can't wait for my next opportunity to give it a go.
well worth the money
While the greens were much slower than those on the courses on which I usually play and the cart paths are a bit bumpy, I would play here very often if I lived in the area. I really liked the design. I played from the gold tees with a couple of guys who were familiar with the course (play it forward). I had intended to play from the whites which would have created a much greater challenge (I am challenged by the game at any length). I had fun.
