Old Brickyard Golf Course
Played On 08/03/2014Old Brickyard decent but needs work
The course had a very nice layout and very friendly staff. The driving range is basically part of the first hole and finding a ball that's yours is virtually impossible. The greens were in good shape but the weeds in the fairways were very unsightly. The cart paths were totally cracked and damaged on most of the course. Bunkers were full of weeds too. Yardage markers were very hard to find also to determine how far you were from the green. With some upkeep of the course and cart paths it has a lot of potential.
Southern Oaks Golf Club
Played On 3/22/2013Decent Course
The pace of play was good but there are too many weeds in the fairways and trash on the course. It's decent for what I paid.
Lost Creek Golf Course
Played On 3/1/2013Decent course for the price
I finally decided to try Lost Creek after seeing great deals constantly on golfnow. For $10 it was well worth the try on a Friday afternoon. The course was almost empty as I played my fastest round ever as a single in 2 hrs 45 mins. The course has a nice layout in a complete residential neighborhood. There's literally a house on every square inch of this course. Makes for great scenery. The only complaint I have is the upkeep of the course. The greens were actually decent for this time of year. But the weeds were atrocious and showed lack of care for the course. It reminded me of Fort Worth Golf Club that is now vacant. The cart paths need repaving, but are serviceable. The club house is dated, but that doesn't bother me. The staff was friendly in the bar and pro shop. The putting greens and driving range were in good shape. For the no frills golfer, I recommend this course to play a quick round on a challenging course. I just hope they get the weeds under control. They were a definite eye sore.
Texas Rangers Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2012Pleasant Surprise
I have driven past this course for years before finally playing there. I was pleased in what I saw on the grounds. A very nice driving range, chipping green, and putting green. Neither Lake Arlington or Meadowbrook Park has a driving range. It's located very close to Cowboys Stadium, Rangers Ball Park and easy to get to which is also a plus.
The course is nicely laid out with holes for the big driver player as well as tight fairways for the more skilled golfers. The par 3 holes are very interestingly laid out and plays longer than what is posted.
The pace of play was very fast on a Saturday afternoon and was not overly crowded. The staff was friendly and the course was well maintained.
The only drawback were 3 kids that walked through the opening in the fence on the back 9 and walked onto the course. One kid picked up the ball my buddy was about to hit as we were telling them to go back to wherever they came from. Other than that no issues.
I have found better deals on golfnow than what I paid, but I would still play this course again.
Iron Horse Golf Course
Played On 11/09/2012Not What I Expected
I have always wanted to play Iron Horse, but after playing it I can take it or leave it. The GPS on the cart is awesome with touch screen yardage features. That's the best thing I liked about the course. The pace was painfully slow on a Friday afternoon. I was only able to play 13 holes in almost 4 hours and couldn't finish the round. It took almost 10 minutes to figure out how to get to hole number 2 after looking at the GPS on the cart screen and missing the narrow cart part between 2 houses that seemed like I was driving into someone's back yard. The course is designed for irons for the most part due to the layout. There were other holes that were very confusing on which holes were which. The construction to even get to the course was discouraging also. Holes 12 thru 17 can only be accessed thru a gravel construction zone but are nice once you finally get there. Hole 18 is almost a mile from hole 17 once you come back from the opposite side of the highway. The concept and appearance of the course is nice, but I prefer other courses to this one.
Timberview Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2012Good Practice Course
The course is decent for the $10 I paid. The layout was very confusing at first because it's not clear which direction the green is when you're in the fairway. The par 3s play long from the blue tees. Holes 5 and 17 are quite the challenge. The course has no course rating or slope so it cannot be used to track handicap scores. That's why I say it's good to practice.
Benbrook 3 Par
Played On 10/27/2012Very Good Short Game Course and Great for Kids
The course manager was extremely nice and was mowing the greens himself while I was playing. He even gave tips on how to play certain holes based on the wind direction. The greens are a little shoddy but for $6 for 9 holes that's to be expected. The water on holes 3 and 6 make the course challenging for beginners and kids. Hole 4 is 177 yards but plays much longer with the wind blowing towards you. Club selection is critical on this course. It's better to hit it short of the greens to get up and down for a par. If you hit past the green it's almost impossible to get a par or even a bogey.
The First Tee of Fort Worth kids play there free if they are part of the organization. The First Tee program should donate money to the course to get the greens redone in my opinion.
Overall a good course for working on your short game.
Mansfield National Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2012Best Value in Town
Played for $13 including tax with a cart with GPS. It was very windy but well worth it on a chilly Friday afternoon.
Mansfield National Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2012One of my Favorites
The price of this course with the golfnow deals are unmatched. Greens are a whole lot better than before. The layout is challenging and wide open for big hitters. Staff is always friendly and the course conditions are above average. Best value in the metroplex.
Cleburne Golf Links
Played On 9/22/2012Very Good Links Course
Course layout is very different with the front 9 ending and back 9 starting well away from the clubhouse. Holes 5 and 12 share the same green but is manageable and not confusing. Clubhouse is extremely nice. Holes 16 thru 18 finish off with a gorgeous lake view as well as hole 1. The only thing lacking is bunker play on this "links" course. The drive was far but for $15 including a cart made it worthwhile.
Whitestone Golf Course
Played On 9/15/2012Course needs work
The course layout is good but was not maintained as I would expect. There were tire tracks on some greens. Tracks close to greens through puddles of water. No signs to let people know to NOT drive carts near the greens. No marshals to monitor course pace or make sure people are doing what they're supposed to do.
Course plays nice and some holes are unique. Didn't like the gun fire near holes 14 and 15. Sounded like people were hunting or using the open field to practice shooting. I will not be returning there.
Meadowbrook Park Golf Course
Played On 9/3/2012Great beginners course
This par 66 nine hole walking course is easy and challenging at the same time. Great for beginners and better players working on honing their short games. No water or bunkers make for fast play. Course is always well maintained.
The Golf Club at Champions Circle
Played On 8/31/2012Awesome course
Extremely nice and very challenging course. Well worth the drive to get to it for the price I paid. A definite must to play at.
Grand Oaks Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2012Decent Course for the Price
I played this course many times when I started back playing golf this year. It's close to home and is maintained nicely. The golfnow deals are supposed to include range balls, but I have yet to see the range open any time this year. I played once over the summer and there was lightning and rain after I played only 4 holes. I was told I could get a raincheck to finish my round at first. Then I was told I play at my own risk during twilight hours. So that was money wasted and left a bad taste after being a regular there. I haven't been back since. It was the principle to me. Now I play either Prairie Lakes or Mansfield National instead for the same price at better courses.
It's worth the $15 when a whole round can be played, but don't expect any range balls or rainchecks.
Sunset Golf Club
Played On 04/27/2012Very Good 9 Hole Course
The course is a great value on golfnow when you can the 18 hole deal.for usually $10 with a cart. The course is maintained and challenging. It's a course for straight hitters. The fairways and a couple of par 3s are extremely narrow. There are a couple of tricky holes with water also. Staff is family owned and very nice. Great course for beginners and hackers.
Fort Worth Country Club
Played On 02/26/2012Terrible Course Conditions
This is one of the worst courses I have ever seen. The fairways were full of weeds and tall grass and the greens were horrible. I haven't been back since. It wasn't worth the $10 I paid.
