Old Orange at Verandah
Played On 3/26/2013Very challenging without prior course knowledge.
The Old Orange course was in great shape with excellent and fast greens. However, there were several instances where blind landing areas for tee shots had trouble such as water that was reached because we didn't know it was there. Also, some pin placements were very close to dropoffs which couldn't be seen from the fairway and what seemed like great shots that landed on the green ended up in a collection area 30 feet off the green.
Play was pretty slow the day we played...over 4.5 hours. We had to wait on about half of the holes.
Would like to play it again to see if having this knowledge would make it a little easier.
Quail Village Golf Club
Played On 3/13/2013Very short course. Good test of your iron play.
Very short course...even from the tips. Course was in pretty good shape for as much play as it gets. Greens were in good condition with some having quite a bit of slope to them. Water comes into play on a number of holes.
When you can't get on a regulation length course, this isn't a bad alternative.
The Club at Gateway
Played On 2/15/2013Best Greens in the area!!
This course has to have the best greens in the SW Florida area. They roll true and fast with some interesting putts if you're above the hole. Also a little larger than I'm accustomed to.
The course is very well maintained, the staff is very friendly and pace of play was great.
Another benefit for those of us who don't always hit them as straight as we'd like to, is their wide fairways (some have to be 75 yards wide!). Water comes into play on several holes but you'll have to be pretty crooked to find some of the ponds.
