The Good:
Location, Location, Location. Unbelievable views, perfect weather, nice attentive staff.
The not-so Good:
Weird layout jammed into an unbelievable location. All holes run back and forth, due to terrain, so it seems like you are playing the same hole over and over again.
Biggest complaint is the way the course interacts with the cart paths. A bit odd, but you never feel like you are playing the course. After your tee shot, you often drive on a path surrounded by tall scrub, then pop out on the fairway. Never really get a sense of the course or the individual holes. Same thing around the greens; you never really feel like you are approaching the greens directly. Too many times you exit the fairway and approach from the side.
Conditions were good, but not quite what you would think for the price. Bumpy greens by late afternoon.
In sum, you can enjoy the incredible views by visiting the free park and trails that bisect the course and save $$$$.
Seems like a fair comment and will keep it in mind when I play here. I hope we don't have children running and screaming and couples fighting when I play either. Luckily I use less than a small bag when I warm up. If I'm hitting it well after a few I quit but I don't hit large buckets either before playing or practicing. It's probably why I never went pro. Practicing is just not fun for me. But I'll take your advise and see if I can be a little more familiar with the course before playing here. I'm the same way with destination courses. "Let me see what I'm gonna get when I play, because I'm not gonna get to see this place when I play again". - Greg Randall, worlds dumbest good golfer.
The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge
Played On 9/2/2012Not bad
Pretty good golf course, but not overly challenging. Probably the easiest of the high end daily fee courses in the Triangle. Wide fairways and the absence of much water make it a course you should score well on. The back nine is definitely tougher than the front. All-in-all and enjoyable place to play.
Lochmere Golf Club
Played On 9/1/2012New Greens are a Big Plus
Played Lochmere the first day it was open with new Bermuda greens. Wow! Anyone who has played here late in the summer knows that they have had an on-going battle trying to keep Bent Grass greens alive. What a change! The greens were firm, fast and smooth. And covered with green stuff that sure looked like grass. Instantly changed this into a course I want to play again soon.
