Maui Nui Golf Club
Played On 01/22/2024Disappointing - many greens, tees and fairways NOT in good condition
Though one of the least expensive courses on Maui, this was very disappointing. Many, many problems on the greens - bare ground (no grass), shaggy, bumpy. Some tees also bare ground, some fairways also in very bad shape.
Some nice vistas, both toward the ocean and toward the mountains. Friendly staff.
Course conditions were NOT good. I don't feel it's a good use of $100 (I was visiting from Minnesota) Disappointing as I really wanted to like this course.
Loggers Trail Golf Club
Played On 10/02/2020Very nice course for all level, works great for fall golf
A friend suggested we play here in early October. I'm really glad he suggested that we try this. The fairways are wide and the greens are large, with some significant breaks. There are many interesting holes.
The course works well in the fall, when it can be very difficult to find your ball. Though there are many trees, there are mounds on the side of many holes, rather than trees. So it's much easier to find your ball than on many courses in September or October.
The club house is not very large, but I don't choose a course on the basis of the club house. There are a couple of putting greens.
Royal Golf Club - Short Course
Played On 09/27/2020Scenic but allows people to tee off late- very bad
Challenging, scenic course. We had a 3:50 PM start time on a fall Sunday afternoon. Sadly, the starter has NOT insisted people tee off on time so we were not able to tee off until after 4 PM. In part because we tied off almost 15 minutes late, we were only able to complete 13 holes. If we'd tee off on tied, we would have been able to complete at least one, and perhaps 2 more holes.
I've NEVER experienced, ever, in Mn - a golf course that does not insist people tee off on time. So this was a bad beginning (a key reason why this course does not get a 5.)
The course itself is scenic, hilly and challenging. There are several ponds in play, and a lake. Most of the greens are larger than average in Mn, and much more undulating. A series of tees provide opportunities for players at various skill levels.
There are many traps. While some courses have put out rakes despite COVID 19, this one has not. It did not appear that the traps were raked daily (another reason this did not get a 5
