Classic Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2016Fantastic Greens as Usual
Playing greener than normal through the fairways, but can't complain about that. The greens were smooth and fast as usual, but receptive to approach shots played with spin. The course is starting to recover from the removal of all the trees.
Woodbine Bend Golf Course
Played On 07/26/2016Hidden Gem near Galena Eagle Ridge
We were visiting Galena for the first time and staying at the Eagle Ridge resort. Went to Woodbine to play a cheaper option before dropping $100+ at the Eagle Ridge course. Ended up coming back here 3 days in a row and skipping out on the Eagle Ridge courses altogether! This is a great alternative if you are looking to play a great course at a great price. $20 to walk, and we got around in less than 4 hours each day. I'll miss this course. Links style on former farmland, but there is a good amount of elevation change and rolling terrain.
Galena Golf Club
Played On 07/25/20162 Different Nines
A cheap alternative to the Eagle Ridge courses in Galena, the two Nines could not be more different. The front goes up and down and you can score on the straightforward holes. The back gets tighter and is much more challenging with two very tough par 4's. Overall, the course was in good shape and the greens rolled smooth, but the front 9 gets redundant before getting to the back.
Allenmore Golf Course
Played On 03/22/2016Growing the Game for Kids...Not at Allenmore
Took my kids out to walk with me and Grandpa as we played. They love watching and I can teach them etiquette. We are walking down the first hole and the surly old pro shop attendant tells us we're crazy thinking we can bring the kids on the course. When asked for a reason, he said its policy at every course. They've walked at plenty of other courses, so I asked to see the policy, as it wasn't displayed anywhere in the clubhouse. He wasn't able to produce this policy, so apparently it was just his personal policy that he didn't want kids on the course. Extremely frustrating to load the kids back into the car disappointed that they couldn't golf.
Salish Cliffs Golf Club
Played On 07/09/2015Phenomenal Course, but WINDY!!!
With fairways cut through forest, and privacy on every hole, Salish Cliffs is what you think of when you think PNW golf. The conditions were immaculate from tee to green, best greens I've putted on in WA. However, the prevailing strong (consistent at 20-30mph) headwind you play into on the majority of the holes made playing the course an exercise in frustration. If I could guarantee a calm day, this would be the best course I've ever played. But it sounds like those calm days are few and far between. Still, you should play this course to say you have.
Allenmore Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2015Can't Beat Value
Found a golfnow deal for $12, and it was a great deal. Course is well manicured from tee to green for a muni, though the greens were extremely slow. Course is short, but great spot to work on placing the ball. Played with 3 others in 3 1/2 hours.
Cedars at High Cedars Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2015Perfect for Beginner/Working on Short Irons
This is a great kick-around course to learn the game or brush up on your short-irons. The greens roll smooth, and you can't beat the views. Play during the day and you'll be the only one out there
TPC Sawgrass - Dye's Valley Course
Played On 04/25/2015Great Course, Poor Value
You are paying for the TPC name at this one. While everything about the course is nice, and there will be memories as you roll up to the famed clubhouse and snap pictures around the grounds, the golf is simply not worth the price.
St. Johns Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/22/2015Blistering Greens - Great Challenge
Fantastic course and even better because of the price. Good variety on the holes, though there will be some shots that you want to hit again. The greens are extremely fast, but also roll true. Best value in the area!
