Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2021Great little course
Very challenging par three course. Without Golf Now membership, prices would be too high for walking this par three course.. For an additional 5 dollars, I could ride at Emerald Isle, which is a slightly longer course and somewhat better kept. Especially the sand traps, which need work (sand), at Rancho Carlsbad.

Too pricey without Golf Now discount. $22 to walk is regular green fee, plus an on-line "Convenience Fee". Golf Now discount is only reason it's worth it. Better off at Emerald Isle in Oceanside where the course is always in perfect shape.

A great little course to sharpen your short game, and still be an overall challenging course Staff is wonderful.
Unfortunately, the greens fee has gone up to a ridiculous $22 to walk. (Weekday rate) Really? And, an on line booking "Convenience fee", adds a few dollars more
I can walk Emerald isle in Oceanside for $17, (also weekday rate), which is a far superior course with impeccable greens. Also, I can ride Emerald for $27, which is only $5 more than walking at Rancho. In addition, Emerald doesn't charge that ridiculous "Convenience Fee" when on-line booking, A way better deal at Emerald If not for my Golf Now discount used at Rancho, I probably would no longer play here weekly, as I do now. If that discount ever goes away, so will I.
Check out Emerald; you owe it to yourself.

Even though it is a par three course, it has some pretty challenging holes. The green are in good shape. They are domed, which adds to the challenge. In the past the sand traps were not sand, but more like dirt. That has finally been rectified with nice sand in the traps. The staff is super friendly. There are both grass and mat ranges, as well as a practice putting green. Definitely a walking course, even for seniors.

Normally a great place to sharpen your short game. All par three holes, but can be challenging. Sand traps need sand. This particular day, they were at the end of greens aeration and tee box restoration, so course was not in great shape. It would have been nice if they had a note on their website ,as to the course condition that day. Also, grass driving range was closed and only mats were available. Again, would have been nice to know that before getting there. No reason they can't provide daily course conditions and restrictions on the website.

Recent work on greens has made them near perfect. Finally put sand in traps which are no longer dirt hard pan. Easy to walk course, but don't be fooled by short holes. It is a challenging course with several domed greens, which make ball placement critical. Very fun course to play. Driving range has both grass and mats. Staff is very accommodating and friendly.

Great short course to hone your short game skills. Small greens require accurate shots, Some greens are really domed, so putting is critical. Fun, challenging course. Staff is super friendly and accommodating . The only negative is the sand traps are actually hard packed dirt traps. Little if any sand and it's like playing off hard pan. A definite negative at this course.

Super friendly staff. Nice practice range with both mats and grass. Practice putting green is on the small side, but OK. Easy walking course. Greens aren't very big and are somewhat domed, which makes for a fun and challenging day. The only issue I have is the sand traps aren't even close to being sand; they are basically dirt, and hard packed. Unfortunately, it's been that way for years, so apparently, they don't care to fix it.

Great course to sharpen up your short game. Course has a putting green and two driving ranges; mats and grass.
The only issue I have is the sand traps aren't really sandy. They are more dirt then sand, and pretty hard packed. Other than that, I love playing this easy to walk course.

Nice course to get your short game in order, but not easy by any means. Greens are in good shape, but challenging because they are domed. Fairways have been receiving attention to make second shots (if necessary), more doable. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Nice range with both grass and mats. The only issue are the sand traps. They are pretty much dirt and lack any soft sand. Not like playing out of a legitimate sand trap.

Can't beat this course to sharpen up your short game. Staff is super friendly. Greens are in good shape but small and domed, so putting can be very challenging. Perfect walking course. nice driving range, with well marked distances, and a small, practice green. Only thing from keeping me from giving it a 5 are the poorly kept sand traps. No fluffy sand, just brown, packed dirt and sand mixed. Can't really play a bunker shot in that garbage. I do love this course and play here weekly.

Very challenging short course. Greens are small and some are pretty domed, which forces you to be accurate with approach shots and putting. Very fun course and staff couldn't be more friendly. Easy to walk. Would have given a higher rating, but the sand traps are horrible. Virtually no sand; mostly dirt and not at all soft. Very irritating since you can't play it like a normal sand shot.

Fun course to play. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Practice green and driving range, with both mats and grass. Greens are small and some are really domed, which makes for a challenging round. Love playing here to tune up the short game. The big negative for me is the sand traps aren't really sand, they're more dirt and certainly not soft. They're pretty hard packed, so playing out of them isn't a good test of anything. An easy walking course. An additional fee for booking on-line of almost $5 brought the total up from the advertised rate to the $18 I paid.

Played On 11/07/2017Short, but challenging
Short course, but challenging, especially greens, which are pretty small. Some are domed, which makes for an interesting putting strategy. Fairways are not well groomed, and areas around the greens can be pretty thick. They recently aerated the greens, so they are really good shape. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. I enjoy this course tremendously. Great walking course.

Played On 10/27/2017Nice little course
Recently aerated greens improved most of them. Still some bare spots on some greens that need work, but overall, a lot nicer. Staff always pleasant and helpful. No longer able to go directly to course website, and have to use Golf Now for on line tee times. Can't pay full amount in advance on line, which is stupid. Was only able to pay $1.60 on line and had to pay $30.30 at the course. What?

Played On 07/06/2017Great short game course. Love this place!
A par 54 course with all par three holes, but don't be fooled; it can be challenging! The greens are small and some are pretty domed, so it's not easy to par each hole, even if your first shot gets you close. Sand traps are not soft sand, and could use some attention. Great walking course since it's pretty flat, Range has both mats and grass, and there's a practice putting green. Very laid back course with very friendly staff, including the grounds workers. Great place to sharpen the short game, and for new players. Good deals available on Golf Advisor and Groupon for about $11.50 for 18 holes.
