Recently Aerated Greens

$33 on GolfNow for a weekend afternoon round. I thought this was a pretty good deal for this course until I saw the greens. TERRIBLE. It had been less than a week since they punched and sanded these greens. I would stay away from this course for at least 2 more weeks. We had to play automatic 2 putts from inside 30 feet. And from the blue tees (6400 yards) there are at least 7 par 4s that are 330-360 yards long so you have to hit 3 wood off the tee into a tight/blind fairway. I only got to hit driver 4 times all day. It's tough to get a good lie in the bermuda rough. I was impressed with the pace of play. But not at all impressed with the greens.

Good Layout

I booked this tee time 1 week in advance and it ended up raining 5 inches the day before my tee time. Since the course was still very wet, I don't think the maintenance crew had gotten the chance to get out and recover from the storm. The greens were shaggy and slow. Since it was my first time playing the course, I would say that it did not live up to the hype but that is probably just because I didn't see the course in it's peak condition. I liked the design. Pretty wide fairways and tough approach shots.

I picked the wrong day to play this beautiful course

The weather forecast was partly cloudy with a high of 71. Well I played at 1:07 and the temperature was in the low 50s with a wind chill (17 mph) in the 40s. It was so cloudy that we only saw the sun on 1 hole. Very unusual for March weather in the sunshine state. By the 14th hole, we were just trying to hurry and get out of the cold wind. I would not have played if I had known the weather would be like that. I booked a $44 tee time on golfnow. Well they charged me $54 plus tax at the clubhouse (I think it was because I am not a FL resident?). Then they charged extra for range balls on top of that. But the starter was very friendly and pace of play was fantastic. Greens were a little on the slow side because they had not mowed them that morning for some reason. Bermuda rough was playable but not too easy. The course is a very fun layout in my opinion. There are ponds along a couple of the fairways that are hidden from the tee box. I will probably be back to play this course again in nicer weather.

Painfully Slow

I teed off at 12:04 on a Friday. The front 9 lasted 2 hours 45 minutes and the back 9 lasted 2 hours 20 minutes. I think the back 9 went a little smoother because one of the groups in front of us quit after 9 holes. The guys at the bag drop made me feel like I was a burden to them. It was as if they did not want to put my bag on the cart for some reason. The course is absolutely beautiful and the weather could not have been more perfect. It was a perfect day for golf. The fairways and rough are very healthy right now. Greens are a little slow but very true. I enjoyed my round but it would have been much better at a normal pace. I recommend this course for you if you can put up with the slow play.

One of Lakeland's Best Quality Courses

I played with 2 friends on a Saturday at about 11:00. The practice facilities are everything that you could ever ask for. Unlimited range balls included. Every water hazard is down the right side. So if you work the ball from right to left like I do, this course is for you. At least 3 of the 4 par 5s are reachable and fun. Beginners might have a difficult time with this course. I will definitely play it again sometime.

Not spectacular; but worth the money

My friend and I had a 1:02 tee time and the course was surprisingly busy for a week day. Par 70 with only 3 par 5s and 5 par 3s. I told the man at the desk in the clubhouse that it was my first time playing the course and he gave me a nice yardage book for free. The driving range only extends 200 yards so it's irons only. It's a pretty good course if you are just looking for a less expensive round in the area. The greens were in pretty good shape apart from number 16 which had a temporary green. In general, the course is very tight and you have to be very accurate off the tee to score well. The course is surrounded by neighborhoods of apartments or town houses.
