Poppy Hills Golf Course
Played On 03/19/2019Not quite as nice as expected
I know it was a little off season and the area had had a lot of rain. However, was a little rough in spots and it would seem there should have been worker bees on the course cleaning it up. The staffing inside was a little lacking in friendliness.. Would it hurt to say "Hello?" AND, playing at the first hole I kept looking at the course and the scorecard saying to myself.. this can not be right! I had a score card from BEFORE the front and back side was flipped - TWO years earlier! I was disappointed.
Zaca Creek Golf Course
Played On 03/14/2019A really fun executive course
Wife and I played here three times while visiting family in the area. Very friendly staff and locals at the course. Not expensive and just plain fun to play. Great for short game tune-up.
University Ridge Golf Course
Played On 09/13/2018A must play in Wisconsin
Beautiful course even with a couple of holes with problems due to the heavy rain in the area late summer. Staff wanted to be very helpful and accommodating. Definitely would play again if opportunity presented itself.
Sand Valley Golf Resort - Mammoth Dunes Course
Played On 09/12/2018Loved Mammoth Dunes!
Wide fairways, large greens and wonderful experience! Really recommend Mammoth Dunes. Does not have some of the ragged sand bunkers/areas that Sand Valley has on it.
Sand Valley Golf Resort - Sand Valley Course
Played On 09/11/2018Lot of fun, enjoyable... bad caddie situation
Lots of fun and lots of sand. Yes, you'll most likely spend time in the sand, but not too difficult to get out and plenty of room for misses. The caddie situation sucked! My buddy and I each wanted a caddie and ended up with one caddie carrying two bags. He was never in the right place, couldn't read the greens and spent more time talking about all the people he had caddied for in the past rather than helping us. Ridiculous waste of money. We cancelled out caddie for out next day round at Mammoth Dunes.
River at Blackwolf Run Golf Course
Played On 09/10/2018Nice course, but not worth the high green fee
Buddy and I took a Wisconsin golf trip and played River, Sand Valley, Mammoth Dunes and University Ridge. The River is a pretty course, but was our least favorite and $250 to $300 would be a more on-target green fee. Definitely not worth the $500 we paid. We also used a forecaddy who was not very knowledgeable about the greens, etc. and turned out to be a waste of money.
Legacy Golf Club
Played On 02/01/2018Slow Play...
Starting off our tee time was a joke... Got off 40 minutes after the time and waited on each hole. No marshal on the course. When we made the turn a man and his son evidently got tired of waiting on the 1st tee box and jumped on 10 (close to first tee) while we were getting a beer. Even when we asked him to leave he wouldn't and no marshal to help out. Finished at dark and club house locked so could not get to a bathroom.
10 & 19 at University Park Country Club
Played On 01/30/2018Bobby Jones Golf Club - American Course
Played On 01/25/2018Without great expectations, OK for a round
Staff friendly, but course definitely needs some TLC. Appears they are considering a major rebuild which would be great. Could be a premier area courses(s) with central location and some major improvement. Fairways are thin, greens bumpy.
Bobby Jones Golf Club - John Hamilton Gillespie Course
Played On 01/22/2018Good for knocking rust off
Wife and I took some time in Florida to escape the cold in the north. Played this first to get back in the swing. Quirky lay out, thin fairways. But, we had enjoyable time.
Mountain Top Course
Played On 10/12/2017Outstanding New Course
Wife and I played this walking only course and had a ball. This is the perfect course to play with your spouse or children that have some golfing experience. You have a choice of where to tee off to make yardage fit your game. Longest hole is just over 200 yards at the tips. Scenery is fantastic and you can see the two new courses being built in the distance. Nice pro shop and restaurant. You know its a great course when the on course restroom had heat and AC!
Thousand Hills Resort & Golf Club
Played On 10/11/2017Fun Course that IS Hilly
Wife and i played and had a fun time. It is hilly and don't think walking is an option unless you're 20! I would like to see some steps from cart path to greens and some tee boxes... very steep walk up and down and somewhat slippery. A few holes are quirky as they tried to stuff this course into limited space. And it will play tougher than you would think looking at the card.
The Harvester Golf Club
Played On 09/14/2017Challenging and Enjoyable - Fast greens and windy!
Played with my wife and was excellent weather day. Be prepared that the practice green is fast and reflects the actual course greens! Hard to read the greens on the first time playing them. Also if the wind is blowing there is nothing to slow it down our in the rolling hills of the country. Staff very friendly and liked that the carts are located out in the parking area. Grab a card, load and go. No a lot of off course "frills." I was disappointed that in ALL the ball washers on the course... not one had water in it! Also, the over seeding on two of the back nine holes was a pain. We had a slow round due to a group in front of us that we not really up to playing this hard of a course and no on-course marshals to help speed play. Snack shop could take a little warming up with some pictures, etc. Felt like i was eating in a meeting hall. Liked the views... very pretty setting.
WinterStone Golf Course
Played On 08/07/2017A little disappointed
Played Winterstone last year and was impressed. This year.. not so much. First, not sure what was wrong with the staff, but all inside the pro shop were very unfriendly.. no greeting or have a great round. Just processed payment. The starter/marshals were very friendly and helpful. Overall the course did not seem to be in the same great condition as last year. A few greens were in bad shape and playing the course for the second time realized many holes has the basic same layout... Up and down hill with narrow landing zone.
Fred Arbanas Golf Course - Championship
Played On 03/23/2017Little care given to this course
Arbanas has both an 18 and a 9 hole par 3. The par 3 is really good for beginners and a quick couples round getting some walking exercise. This could be... could be the premier par 3 in the Kansas City area. Unfortunately they have let the greens shrink to an extremely small size and EVERY green has damage that makes them impossible to putt on them. In the condition it is in even $10.00 is too much to pay.
Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 02/22/2017Really Nice Course. Would definitely recommend
Was in the area doing a bucket list trip to Pebble and checked this course on Golf Now. Played with a local and we played the first 12 in about 2 hours... then we hit the group in front of us and really slowed down ! And the wind really picked up and due to time restriction had to quite after 12 holes. Course in great shape even with all the trees down and damaged due to recent storms. Pro Shop staff and starter very friendly and helpful. However, had a beer and lunch and very NOT friendly. The bar tender hardly said a word. Would not recommend the grill. I do recommend the course.
Poppy Hills Golf Course
Played On 02/21/2017Bucket List Round - Totally Worth It.
This was a bucket list round and well worth it. Only negative was not due to course... Mother Nature was in a foul mood and it was rainy and windy so the course was not in the best shape. However, what an experience!
Teetering Rocks Executive Links
Played On 08/08/2016Not a favorite of mine
I realize this is a family owned course and layout has limitations due to available land. However, many of the holes are definitely blind shots and some are "tricked up" in order to get 18 holes into allocated space. This is a great place for a beginner as it is a short course, but easy to get into trouble if you miss the fairway as mostly narrow... A moderate to low handicapper will not enjoy it. Good for just a few holes if time is an issue. Back 9 more enjoyable than the front side.
