WestWynd Golf Course
Played On 09/06/2016Failed to crack my top 5 in the area and it's the most expensive
I had high expectations going into yesterdays round because Westwynd has consistently been the most expensive tee time to book the entire year. Unfortunately, my brother and I were disappointed in the way the course looked, felt and played. Westwynd lacked the beauty I was expecting to see at a course that holds itself with such a high standard. It was not manicured very well and was severely hacked up in too many spots to count. The greens were slow and beat up, the starter was hawking every 2 holes even though we were about the only ones on the course. There was no water at any of the holes, no cart person either. I did enjoy the difficult layout of course despite a gimmicky hole or 2. The sand traps were well groomed. Overall I think there are much better courses in the area for a much better price.
Glacier Club
Played On 04/18/2016Very Well Kept Course
They do a fantastic job of grooming the course at The Glacier Club. It's kept as good as any course I've been to. It's a pretty challenging course but fair. The pace of play varies but the price always seems to be reasonable which makes it ok if you do fall into a long round filled with waiting.
Rackham Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2015Such an underrated course!
Very well groomed course with a great feel to it. It's a much longer course than I'm used to which was actually a refreshing change. Despite the higher degree of difficulty (especially the par 3's) I loved the layout of the course!!! The worst thing about the course is the price, yesterday was the first time I've been able to find a real nice deal there. The greens felt great, every hole made sense...I definitely recommend Rachham, be ready to swing more long irons and fairway woods than usual!!!
Sylvan Glen Municipal Golf Course
Played On 05/19/2015My least favorite course in my area
Sylvan Glenn is the closest course to my house so even though it's my least favorite course in the area, I still check it out once in a while because of the convenient location and I end up regretting it every single time. It has very cooperate feel to it. There could be a women's league of walkers only and they will tell you...it's wide open, swing on up. Due to their extreme over booking of golfers the pace of play here is the absolute worst. Plus the starters start harping on you to bring the carts in when there are nearly 2 hours of light left in the evenings! Get there at 4:00 and you'll be lucky to get 12 holes in. If you can find a rare time slot in which the course is wide open, it has a pretty good layout and is pretty well groomed...just understand that you will be dealing with the most uncompassionate workers whose only concerns are to squeeze every penny they can out of you and then hurry you out as quickly as possible.
Orange at Sunnybrook Golf Course
Played On 05/05/2015OK when not crazy crowded like usual
After telling myself I'd never go there again, I recently gave it another try. I actually found a good deal to golf there (it's usually wayyyy too expensive for this quality of course) and it was pretty empty. These two rare course factors changed my mind about it quite a bit. I can see myself returning IF an uncrowded time/reasonable price presents itself again. ONLY IF...
North at Maple Lane Golf Club
Played On 04/14/2015Greed is bad
This used to be a go to course when you just felt like swingin em for cheap. All of a sudden, they changed management and decided to double/triple their prices while disallowing any wiggle room in the now strict pricing. I used to golf Maple Lanes very often when it was cheap, but now, I can golf courses 10 times better for what they charge.
Devil's Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/13/2015Great Course
Devils Ridge is my 2nd favorite course within 2 hours of my house (my favorite course is also in Oxford, Copper Hills). Very reasonable pricing, perfectly groomed, good pace of play, pretty fair layout despite 2 holes that don't make sense. This beautiful course is definitely worth the drive, I find myself golfing there more and more each season.
Copper Hills Golf Club - Jungle Course
Played On 08/26/2014My favorite course around
It's a beautiful, intimate course that's groomed to perfection. Very difficulty course which is fine when the pace of play is smooth like always. If it was closer, it would put all the courses in my immediate area out of business. It's difficult to find a real good price there but if you're patient enough, they become available every once in a while. Everyone needs to try this course at least once in my opinion.
I have played here for the past 6 years and since the management changes 5 years ago, the prices haven't gone up. If anything they have gone down. Used to be $38 to play sunday morning, now it's only $30. Not to mention everything in the pro shop is cheaper than golfsmith and carl's.
