Macatawa Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2021Fast greens and lots of ball marks
I really don’t think you need to have your greens as fast as they played. That being said, people please fix your ball marks. There were dozens of old marks that would take a long rime to heal if I wasn’t there fixing them.
Pigeon Creek Golf Course
Played On 5/27/2013Classic links course
Very good links course that is in very good condition. A lot of water and some thick rough. I played on a windy day and it was tough to say the least. Staff was extremely friendly. They allowed me to move my Golfnow tee time so I could avoid some weather that was moving in. A classy move that they didn't have to do. And it won't be forgotten.
Gleneagle Golf Club
Played On 5/26/2013Challenging greens
The one thing that stands out to me about Gleneagle is their undulating greens. While not fast a straight putt on these greens is a rarity. The course was in very good condition overall. Tree lined fairways but they do a great job of clearing the fallen leaves. One downside is there are several bunkers with small pebbles in them. Those bunkers should be sifted as pebbles really chew up a club face.
The Highlands
Played On 5/19/2013Great staff but slow play
Old course built in 1908. They just decided this year to flip the nines because they found play to be 10 minutes faster on average. Hard to believe since I slogged through a five hour round. The course has a decent layout with character. There are many places on the course that could be better maintained but overall it's fine if you hit it where you are supposed to. Mosquitoes are non-existent on this course which was a refreshing change from what I've experienced this year. The starter was super friendly. The ranger, not so much.
Clearbrook Golf Club
Played On 5/18/2013Nice course with issues
What to say about Clearbrook? I've played this course many times and it is a very nice course. It is currently under going major much needed renovations. When completed, the upgrades will make this a great course rather that a good course. I played in a league here years ago and found the restaurant staff to be extremely rude towards the golfers. Needless to say I no longer go into the restaurant. The golf staff is fantastic. One major tip: BRING BUG SPRAY!!! You'll be fine until you finish 11. After leaving the green apply bug spray liberally. If you don't bring spray, be prepared for a miserable time.
Pines Golf Course, The
Played On 5/12/2013Family friendly course
Classic grip and rip course. Not much trouble anywhere on the course. Several drivable par 4's and all three par 5's are reachable in two. Great course for families with kids as it is a short track with easy greens. Overall, course is in excellent condition and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this course.
Hit it straight
This is a course you have to hit it straight, not a course you can over power. Fairways lined with trees that seem to leap out at you. The course was in fantastic condition thanks to all the rain we've been getting. I will be playing this course many times throughout the Summer.
Moss Ridge Golf Club
Played On 5/5/2013This course needs a ranger
The course is in below average condition. The tee boxes are kept long and there are many bad spots in the fairways. As far as pace of play goes, I breezed through the front 9 but on the back I ran into the nightmare geriatric threesome. These guys made the foursome in front of me wait on every shot. I've never played a round in which a threesome held up a foursome so consistently without letting them play through.
Oak Ridge Golf Club
Played On 5/4/2013A great golf value
I really like this course. It's challenging but fair. It's well maintained with very good tees, fairways and greens. This course has character with elevation changes on only a few holes. I played as a single on a slow day so my time of 2.5 hours for 18 is a little deceiving but pace has never been an issue for as many times as I've played this course.
