great place but not worth $$

this is a tricky thing to write about. The course conditions are fantastic, but not of the money. the membership is more than a membership at a much more prestigious course like bay hill in florida. as for the course tee boxed are great, fairways also. the rough in some parts is littered with divots. the greens are the hardest i have ever played, if you tap the ball the ball is probably going off the green if you haven't played here before. clubhouse is outdated, food is ok and the pool is outdated. i understand not rebuilding the clubhouse because of the historic value but it is really mostly outdated.i like the course don't get me wrong but it is worth probably a little less than half the money of membership. i only recommend going as guest it is a must play at least once.

Worst layout

this is regarding the "big course" at swansea not the par 3. course conditions are very good tee boxes, and fairways are some of the best in the area. greens seem to be constantly aerated but the few times they weren't they were a slightly inconsistent speed but good enough that they were playable and not too hard. Don't get me wrong the conditions are very very good but the layout is the worst i have ever played. there is one hole that would be drivable but there is trees a couple feet from the tee box making a shot toward the green impossible. the only spot to land is fairway which bends 90 degrees right about 70 yards away. i feel like a idiot hitting a 56 degree on a par 4 but its what i have to do. some may say that it makes the course challenging and dot get me wrong i love a tough course but that is just stupid to me and most people i golf with and talk to. there are other weird holes like that but i think you understand the point. if you want to play at swansea go to the par 3 they have it is the only part of swansea i will play.

Fun And challenging

I have been playing this course almost a year now. i got a membership in the early part of last season. they just fixed the irrigation so there are some parts along the sides of holes (not much in play) where the grass is dug up/dirt. in the past weeks it has grown back a lot i expect this season for the conditions to become much better. greens are another story, they are my favorite that i have ever played. they are not painfully fast like the nearby road island country club but they are perfect .tee boxes are mostly avg some are a little rough . lastly, the layout is one of my favorite. as a regular (i golf multi times a week here) i have learned many tricks to beat the course. my secrets such as where to play the ball and what trees to hit over make the course easy if your game is on. if you are having a off day you might spend more on more golf balls than the green fee. overall fun and good course for the money. be warned its a tough walk with the steep hills the facilities for food and there pool is fantastic, better than rhode island country club by a lot and is much much cheaper.

Great Greens and Tee boxes

This course is a interesting course to play and to look at. If you pass by it from the street the place looks horrible, you pass by the 5th hole on the street. which is the worst of the course. Other than that (and the torn up driving range) this is one of my favorite places to play. the tee boxes are amazing and the greens are the best speed i have ever played. Next is the fairway on other par 4s which are definitely not bad but they are not so amazing that they stand out like the greens and tee boxes. lastly, the sand traps seem to be out of a private course, comparing them to others the sand is nice and powdery and they are large enough to be challenging but fun.
