Great Conditions

Royal Woodbine is a great course with a nice variety of holes. Course is a little on the short side, so you won't be pulling driver out on many holes. Premium is on shot making and ball placement both off the tee and approaches to the green. Don't go flag hunting! play the slopes on the greens and you will be rewarded. Course was in fantastic shape. Green but running fairways, lush rough and firm and fast greens. Always a pleasure to play this course, but if you're not on your game, bring a few extra balls!

Great experience, as usual

Being situated on the Holland Marsh, this course is always in great shape, but it's arguably the best conditioned course in the GTA at the moment. Excessive Heat and drought have wreaked havoc on some the best courses in the GTA this summer, but Silver Lakes is still lush with healthy rough, meticulous fairways and true and fast greens. Pace of play was just over 4 hours on a Saturday mid day tee time - excellent considering fully booked tee sheet. Play this course!

Always a Great Course to Play

I play Silver Lakes several times each year and it's always a pleasure. Great course layout and conditions, friendly staff, reasonable prices and good pace of play.

Chris and his team really do a good job of welcoming guests as if we are members. Brought two friends to the course for their first rounds there, and they were impressed and will be returning. I have to add a special note about the conditions this time around as the area is in the grips of a major drought and heat wave but Silver Lakes was is really good shape...fast and firm but the course still appeared lush and green and had a good rough height.

Will be back soon.

Dissapointed

Arrived early on rain threatened day booked via a Golf Now Hot Tee Time deal and Pro Shop Attendant allowed us to start 45 minutes earlier since there was hardly anyone on the course. Many thanks to him for that accomodation. Very Nice Club House and well stocked Pro Shop.

Had played the course about 8 years earlier on a vacation and rebooked again because we remembered the the course had a nice challenging layout. Unfortunately, the course conditions have deteriorated significantly since the last time we were there. Greens were a nice speed but dotted with ball marks that looked unatteded to, so it was tough getting a true roll. Bunkers were in poor condition and the waste areas which were the trademark of this course in terms of aesthetics have essentially been given up for dead with virtually complete weed infestation. Fairways okay, but lots of weeds visable. Course is still challenging, but playable. Pace wasn't an issue because of the threatening weather and time of the year.

Overall, just disappointed with the conditions of the course for the money, even at the reduced Golf Now price. If you had to play one round in the area, pay an extra $20 and play at The Signiture at West Neck.

Excellent conditions

Course was in great shape. Rough was a little high due to recent rains, so presented a good challenge...good shots rewarded and bad shots adequately penalized but not severely so. Nice mix of shorter and longer holes with lots of elevation change. Tough course for higher handicap golfers as terrain rarely gives you a level lie.

Good pace of play at about 4 hours (foursome) even though the course looked quite full. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Marshalls were seen on the course but not in your face.

Got a great Hot Deal price, which was a bonus, but would highly recommend the course even at Golf Now's regularly featured prices at $50-60 or even the course's posted prices.

Love This Course

Absolute must play in the Sarasota/Bradenton Area. Very beautiful course with high degree of challenge from back two sets of tees. Playable but still very challenging from the three forward sets of tees. Visually stunning course. Lots of water hazards and forced carries, so high handicappers will find it difficult...still worth playing for the conditions, layout and beauty, but bring a few extra balls! Low handicappers will love it. Lots of variety to the holes so you will use all the clubs in your bag. Challenging layout for both the bombers and the golfer who puts a premium on accuracy. Greens were smooth and running quick and had enough undulation to make things interesting. Scoring is possible but you need to be on your game.

Course is always in great shape and staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this course.

Always a Great Golfing Experience

As a frequent visitor to the Sarasota-Bradenton area, I keep coming back to University Park and I'm never disappointed. This round was no exception. Course was in excellent condition despite unusually high amounts of rain this summer. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Price is a little higher than most other quality courses in the area, but the golfing experience is well worth it. Bite the bullet and treat yourself! Very picturesque course.

Five sets of tees make the course very playable and enjoyable for all levels of golfers. Each of the three nines presents unique golfing challenges. Ample fairways on 10-18 and 19-27 nines, but some really tight fairways on the 1-9 side, where you will lose some balls if you're not on your driving game. Nice mix of long and short holes, so you get to use all the clubs in your bag.

Fantastic Course at a Great Price

Absolutely loved this course. Hadn't played it in several years (I'm a tourist) and had forgotten how nice it is. Exceptionally maintained and five sets of tees offer challenges/fun for all levels of golfers, providing you don't try to bite off more than you can chew!

Severe rain storm the day before forced the course conditions to be cart part only, which slowed us down, but round was still under 4 1/2 hours for a foursome.

If you haven't played this course, you will definitely enjoy the course layout, variety of holes and course's beauty.

Great course, but current conditions of greens is horrendous

Play this course once a month and it is one of the most beautiful courses in the GTA. Lots of variety to the holes with elevation changes. Very challenging layout. Highlands is the best of the 3 nines. If you have a choice, play Highlands/Midlands. Uplands is okay if you like tight, target golf...big hitters will be disappointed. Good value through Golf Now, especially with a Hot Tee Time Deal.

On the day we played (July 25th), the greens were almost unplayable even though the fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. Looks like they've tried to do some reconditioning but some greens were almost bare, others had little grooves, holes, divots and other abnormalities from the aeration and de-thatching machinery. Greens that were coming back a little were overgrown. In all, putting was an adventure from green to green. Not sure if they were diseased or victims of sabotage, but it was a shame that this outstanding course has been been ruined by the condition of the greens. If you are booking in the near future, I would call ahead and ask about the greens, because you will be disappointed if you play in these conditions. When the greens recover, I would wholeheartedly recommend this course because it is outstanding.
