Enjoyable fall round

Westover is one of the great value courses in Western Mass., with better than average public course conditions and a challenging layout. At 5450 yards from the Front Tees, it presents a good challenge with enough doglegs, sand traps, and distance to challenge all levels of ability. The only negative is the leaf litter that often lines the sides of the fairways, making it difficult to find a stray drive. The greens keep and crew do a nice job of keeping the greens in nice shape, with average put speeds. The courses bar and restaurant do a nice job of supplying pub food and a good selection of draft beers. The gripe I have is the carts are getting old and could use a better cleaning, especially the windshields. Minor issues to be sure, so if you have never played Westover GC, try it before the snow flies. You WILL ENJOY THE COURSE!

Great Value Course

Even with all the rain in Western Mass this course remains relatively dry, due it’s superior drainage.
IGM continues to make improvements and keeps the greens / fairways in fine shape. Unfortunately, there is no ranger patrolling and “coaching” some slow players along. That would help, since Wednesday was a nice weather day, with a larger than usual amount of players. The round took 4.5 hours, which is about 1 hour longer than usual. We stopped into the bar for a beer and was treated by a friendly female bartender. Although some of the high end micro brews were priced a bit on the high side ($9 a pint), the bar area is clean with a comfortable atmosphere. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a fairly large deck overlooking the 9th green. I have been playing Chicopee CC for decades and always enjoy a fun and moderately challenging round at this course. I hope it doesn’t get too popular with people out of the Western Mass area. Too much popularity means crowded and higher priced play.

Unique layout

I had a tee time of 11:30 and it was "clear sailing" around the course, with a cart. I saw very little players on the course, so I was not being pushed to move along on each hole. The greens were in good shape with a moderate roll spead. The fairways were a bit banged up and dry, due in large part to the heat and lack of rain. I enjoy playing at Cold Springs because it is a track that has elevation changes with sweeping views of Belchertown and Palmer. Just enough dog legs to show you variety in the holes. The parr three and four holes are not terribly challenging, from the Senior Tee boxes, but enjoyable with sand traps that have white, fine sand that is fun to hit out of. (Unlike the rubble in muni courses)

The club house and restaurant is perched up on a hill, overlooking part of the course. That is unique and visually a plus, for your golfing experience. The staff and bar tender were all friendly and professional. If you haven't played Cold Springs CC, you should give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

One of the best Muni courses in W.Mass!

I had a tee time of 12:27, but the starter let me go early. The pace of play moved along well and as a single, the foursome let me play through on the fourth hole. The temperature was in the high 70s', low humidity and bright sunny skies. A perfect golf day. Even in mid May the course is looking good. I know the newer subcontractor (IGM) has been doing a good job of groundskeeping, with evidence in the greens and fairways. Jeffrey Cornish did a great job in course design back in 1965. The only regret I have about the course is the two holes (5&12) where the legal fight changed those holes. If you are not aware of that history, you should ask an employee about the history and changes - for the worse.

I look forward to more enjoyable rounds at Chicopee CC this season. At about 5900 yards from the white tees, it's not as long as Westover, but a bit more fun layout.

Great golf day at Chicopee CC

I grew up inn the city, playing dozens of rounds over the years. I can honesty write I have not seen the course in better shape that it is this season. Part of it may be this year's moderate summer, but I believe most of the very nice playing condition is due to the relatively new grounds crew, IGM. (International Golf Maintenance) There is evidence of recent aerating of the greens, but the grass plants bounced back and the greens nice and smooth, with moderate speed. Fairways look well kept and I forgot that the course has asphalt cart paths that were completed some years ago. The Geoffrey Cornish designed layout has been popular with many golfers who live out of town, for a very good reason - price. By today's daily fee averages, Chicopee CC remains one of the best value golf experiences in the greater Pioneer Valley. I had such a great day enjoying the course, I am seriously thinking of buying a weekday pass, for the 2018 season. My only gripe is the bar / "restaurant" does NOT compete well in price or offerings. A minor gripe, since I don't go to a golf course to eat. If you have not played this course yet, you should, while the fall weather allows for some scenic and very enjoyable play.

Best gold day of the year!!!

Due to a rotator cuff surgery in December of 2016, I have not played much, but my golf partner and I decided to give Cold Springs a try. Great decision!
Beautiful fall day, teeing off at noon. I played this course once a couple of years ago, so I gave layout info to my buddy who was playing for the first time. He kept remarking how pretty the course was and the unique layout. Not a long track at 5430 yards (white tees), but it still gives you a good challenge. We are 16-18 handicappers, so some of the longer par 4's were difficult getting to the green in regulation. If you accept your limits as a golfer and enjoy the course, as it winds through the hills in Belchertown, you can't help but it enjoy this course. When you are standing on some of the elevated parts of the course, the visits are unique for a Western Mass course. I am sure it is very picturesque, when the fall colors are in full bloom. The visuals aside, the course is in nice shape and it reminds me a bit of The Ledges, in South Hadley. (well kept greens / fairways) Some fairways are wide and foregiving, like Ledges, however there is more woods when you stray too far from the fairways. Additionally, the bar and restaurant areas are upscale, with attentive servers. Enjoy a fall golf day at Cold Springs.....you WILL ENJOY!!!

Enjoyable as always.

I great muni course, with vistas of Mt.Tom across the CT River. Bent grass fairways in wonderful shape and although the greens were VERY FAST for a muni course, they also were in fine condition. This layout is very enjoyable, with varied hole challenges, for players of all abilities. Keep up the good work Ledges!

Enjoyable as always.

I grew up in Chicopee, so knowing about the great value of the Chicopee CC was no secret. It has been and still is one of the better value tracks in Western Massachusetts. In the past few years the city has made changes, regarding the employees and the management, which was an essential change for financial and competitive reasons. From what I see, the improvements were well worth it. I can see where the grounds people have made good efforts to keep the turf, tee-to-green in very nice shape for a municipal course. Chicopee CC remains one of the better values for golf in the Pioneer Valley. Hopefully, the city can find more money to clean up some of the outlying areas, as well as along the cart parts. As for the bar / food, I did not eat there but did find the bar drinks to be non-competitive - compared to a muni course like the Ledge, in South Hadley. A minor issue, since the main attraction is an interesting, challenging golf course. Always a track I recommend to people new to the area.

Great Value Round

Municipal track that is in good shape, with new carts outfitted with GPS! Front nine is open and fairly easy, with the back nine more challenging. In late October, the weather is cool but comfortable, however you will lose balls if you stray off the short grass. Pockets of leaves that may not be blowed into the surrounding woods will swallow up that off center drive.

If you have not played Agawam, you should. You find a fun track with sociable course staff. The town knows it is competing with other local courses and is obviously trying hard to compete for your business.

I first started playing this course when I was in my 20's, back in the late seventies. The course has come a long way, resulting from hard work and friendly service.
