The Ridge at Castle Pines North
Played On 11/07/2015Winter Value worth the money
This course is beautiful. I can easily see why the course is a $100+ course during the spring/summer. The scenery alone was worth the round.
Since I played during the winter, the cart only rules were in place. Made for some major walking to the other side of the fairways to take shots, but it keeps the course in pristine condition, it's worth it.
Some of the greens were so hard from frost/ice that balls bounced like they were on concrete, other's were still recovering from the aeration punches. All the tee boxes were punched as well, and every tee; blue, silver, black - were all at the same location, again winter course preparations.
But no matter what your level of experience is, everyone (and I mean everyone) has to take a shot from the tips on 18. Your standing on a stone pillar no bigger than a dining room table, hitting over a stone gulley. Don't count the shot (unless it's a good one) but just experience would have been worth it.
Spring Valley Golf Course
Played On 10/18/2015Beautiful gem worth the drive.
I drove up from Colorado Springs to play this course. At first, I wasn't so sure about the course. I believe it's the third hole that there is olf farm equipment behind the tee...then on the fourth or fifth hole, an old truck broken down next to the fairway. And on the 10th tee box, there is a house from like 1909 just forward of the teebox (hope you don't slice terribly....). BUT...taking a step back...viewing the trees starting to turn gold and red...it all fit. The course was beautiful. Holes weren't too difficult but provided some challenges here and there. Placement was key, and the greens were super fast and very unforgiving.
I will definately make the trip up here again. Maybe wait till October and enjoy the scenery a little more.
The Country Club at Woodmoor
Played On 08/22/2015What's with the putts???
The course was down right beautiful. Country club course through the trees and houses, very nicely laid out. People from they guy that checked me in to the starter were very friendly, and the two guys I was paired up with knew the course and we had a good time.
The thing with this course is not how far, or where water/sandtraps are located...it's the green. None of the three of us had anything close to a single putt. It wasn't due to the greens being in bad condition, it's being on the slopes built into the green. Learned really quickly to stay fairway side of the greens as that typically leaned towards an uphill putt.
If you are looking for a "sensible" 36 holes with different styles of play, I would suggest this course with the links style "King's Deer" next door (less that 10 miles away.
The Country Club at Woodmoor
Played On 08/22/2015Beautiful Course
Course was very beautiful. Starter was great, very friendly. Course itself was not that challenging, but putting will definitely put up a challenge. Greens were lightning fast and rough was deep (but playable).
Partner this course with Kings Deer next door...you could easily play 36 holes in a day.
King's Deer Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2015Didn't get to finish
Beautiful course. Tough course. Would love to finish playing this course.
Started off the day with beautiful skies. But by the 14th hole, the skies opened up and there was no stopping it. Hail, lightning, and strong winds put an end to our round.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating as the storm nearly knocked out all power.
I would love to play this course again, but I'll have to make sure there is absolutely 0% chance of storms...cause today there was only 10% and that 10% was very nasty
Patty Jewett Golf Course - Plains Nine
Played On 07/31/2015City Course...but...
This course was amazing. For a city owned course, it was well maintained, and very interesting and well maintained.
Being 27 holes, you could end up with ANY type of combination. The courses are divided into three sets of 9 holes...PEAK, PLAINS, and PRAIRIE. On this day, I played PEAK and PLAINS. Not too difficult to play, everything was pretty open, fairway next to fairway.
The real danger lies in the driveway up. You drive up between hole #1 for the PEAK course and #9 for the PLAINS course. And it's a fairly busy driveway...wonder how many cars have golf ball marks from just trying to get to/from the clubhouse.
I can not wait to play this course again.
Shining Mountain Golf Club
Played On 07/25/2015Back-9 needs to be closed
Let me start with the front 9. Course was beautiful. No really difficult shots, and fairways fairly wide. Pace was a little slow, but having a tournment that morning backed up everyone else.
Now the back nine. With all the rain Colorado has gotten this summer, the dirt cart paths have been just decimated. Extreme slopes gained water washouts making the dirt cart paths dangerous on various holes (perticular tee box #12, tee box #13and the switchback between green for #14 and tee box #15). Might be time to put some paved cart paths down...current situation, someone is going to get injured. If you walk the course...then you shouldn't have this problem, and the course is fun.
Staff was very friendly and helpful and the beverage cart was running up to the last people on the course.
I would play this course again, but I will no take a golf cart. Too dangerous for this golfer.
Antler Creek Golf Course
Played On 07/17/2015Definately not a beginner course
This course was outstanding. The gauntlet (holes 9-13) are justified in title of the hardest holes in Colorado. The rough was "lost golf ball" rough. If you could find your ball, you have eagle eyes (or you stepped on it). Staff was very friendly and got us out promply for our tee time. The pace was a little slow, finishing the 18 in a little over 4 hours and 20 minutes. Didn't help that we had a typical Colorado Thunderstorm while we stood on hole 2...the wind got so bad we couldn't even swing our club for fear of being blown over. Then 15 minutes later...it's cleared up and blue skies.
Arroyo Del Oso Golf Course - Championship Course
Played On 07/11/2015Walk down Memory Lane
I played the Arroyo Del Oso course in '89-'90 as I lived one block away. I was only a teen, so was not really good at gold.
Now, 25 years later, a little better at golf, and the championship course was on my bucket list. BUT...the weekend I was in town, they were having a tournment and didn't open the course to public until after 11am. As I didn't want to wait, I played the 9-hole course instead.
The course wasn't terribly difficult. Placement shots on some, leth shots on other made for a very good mix to challenge anyone.
My issue was the course did not have seem to have a second cut If you hit off the fairway, the grass was tall enough that unless you stepped on your ball, there was a good chance it was lost (even if it just was on the edge of the fairway/grass).
Also, it had rained pretty well the night before, and the course did not hold the water well. A few spots seemed to feel like walking on a water bed with the water trapped under the fairway.
As it was a five our trip for me, this will probably be the last time I play this course. Wish I had played the 18, but the 9 was just as satisfying. Glad I made the trip.
Hollydot Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2015Nice course to play, but the drive...
Course was in good condition considering the amount of traffic on the observed 4th of July holiday (Friday the 3rd). The front nine was overly crowded. You had one 4some sitting on the green, one sitting in the middle of the fairway, and one sitting on the teebox. Made for an almost 3 hour 9 holes. Luckily the back nine flew (done in about an hour)
The course is two styles put together. The front nine is wide open; fairway next to fairway next to fairway. Other than the lack of clear signage of where the next hole is (or tee box is), i would say the front nine is a grip it and rip it links. all are fairly straight fairways, no real surprises.
Then comes the back nine. It becomes more of a technical course, with 90 degree dog legs that if you have the confidence and power, you could be putting to put it on the green instead of a 150 yard shot. Back nine is more of a technical placement type of course.
As said before, the lack of signage pointing to where next tee boxes were was disappointing. Thankfully I was with a pair who'd golf this course a few times, and knew the layout. But still, they had to direct a few foursomes to the proper tee box as the front nine does tend to over lap one another. Back nine, no such issues.
My only problem isn't with the course itself. I had a fun afternoon playing a round of golf. My issue is that it was over an hour a way. How this couse get's lump into "Colorado Springs Golf Courses" is beyond me. It's 30 minutes south of Pueblo (guys that were partnered up wtih me were from Pueblo). After getting the online price...add in the amount of gas...it comes out to be about the same as if I had paid full price.
Valley Hi Municipal Golf Course
Played On 06/24/2015Nice Course...but....
Valley Hi is a very beautiful course, great for beginners and advanced a like. Staff was very friendly and the starter was a great to chat with while I waited for the two gentlemen I was paired with. Wide fairways and huge greens make recovery from a bad shot very common. And yes I will play it again...
But... The day I golfed here, foot golf was being set up at the same time. It was really strange looking down a fairway on the front nine, and seeing 3 flags. It seems that every regular hole in golf was two holes in footgolf. So, if you hit a drive just off the fairway on the front nine, you could end up with a hole in one...just a footgolf hole since they are so much larger. Back nine was perfect.
So, if the extra holes distract you, my recommendation is to schedule your round on the opposite days of the footgolf days. Other than that, this is a very nice course and I look forward to playing again.
Pine Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/16/2015Beautiful Course
Course had some unavoidable damage due to the excessive rains Colorado Springs has had in the past month. This only affected the very first hole/tee shot. The first ravine/creek looked as if it had ran a much higher than ever expected...just added to the difficulty. Rest of the course was in BEAUTIFUL condition. Greens were well maintained, fairways were great, fringe was fringe, and rough was ROUGH.
Green for Hole #6 (par 4) and entire hole for #7 (par 3) had the added "bonus" of Geese claiming land. Take care...they are very noisy.
Mound Grove Golf & Recreation
Played On 06/05/2015Nice course
I told my dad that when I visited, I wanted to play as much golf as possible. This was the final course of my week long golf vacation.
We played the front nine and it played fairly easy. Only weird hole I saw was on #7 or #8, there is a huge oak tree in the middle of the fairway.
Lot of holes seem to play long par 4 or short par 5. Enjoyed my round and would play it again.
Fox Run Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2015Very nice course
I told my dad I wanted to play as much golf as I could when I visited. This course we played with one of his golfmates.
I really enjoyed this course. Hills and valleys make placement key to the round. I enjoyed my time and would come back again.
Elk Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2015Beautiful course
I was in town visitng parents and told my dad I wanted to play golf at as many courses as possible. This is one of the 18 hole courses he took me to.
Course weaved through the countryside beautifully, making for some very nice photos. Both wide open fairways and well taken care of greens made this an enjoyable course to play.
The one thing that "shocked me" was the absense of sand traps. Dad told me it was due to the difficulty to maintain through hard winters. And as I seem to be a sand trap attractor, I loved the fact that I could leave my sand wedge in the car.
Orchard Ponds Golf Club
Played On 06/01/2015Very wet round...
I told my dad I wanted to play as much golf as we could during the week I was in town. This was the very first course he took me to and we played it twice in the first day.
We started in the morning (had one of the first tee times. The area had major rain the night before so the ground was not holding all the water too well. Greens were flooded (green on #7 was half underwanter), all the cups basically became ball washers, the seemed to roll very slowly. Fog that morning added difficulty to the morning round.
The evening time was a much more enjoyable round. The water had dried out, allowing for more carry and putting became more "normal". Between the two, that is why I gave the course an overall "Fair" level.
I would definately play this course again next time I visit, as long as it hasn't rained recently.
Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course
Played On 05/17/2015Challenging Military gem
This course is a beauty. Ravine par-3 holes, cliff side par-3's, par 5 that climbs the side of the mountain (it seems), well placed water hazards make this course a fun (but sometimes frustrating) course. Carts have GPS allowing for accurate distance measurements.
Par 3 at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course
Played On 05/15/2015Nice 9 hole gem close to work.
Played 9 between the rain. Nice course, all the rain we've gotten has made the course look and play very nice. Fairways and roughs were well defined and both very forgiving. Greens were a little hard due to aerating and sanding.
Hi Hogie038,
We are happy to hear you enjoyed your experience at Pine Creek Golf Club even with the added challenges of the geese and rain damage. We hope you were able to enjoy the picturesque backdrops of Pikes Peak, the Front Range, and the entire skyline of Colorado Springs.
We hope to see you back on the greens for another round with us at Pine Creek Golf Club.
Best Wishes,
Pine Creek Golf Club Management
