Lake Jonesco Golf Course
Played On 10/22/2020Great Layout - Very Poor Green conditions
This layout has great potential. Lots of interesting holes but the condition is very bad. The greens have huge areas with no grass and they are very bumpy. The fairways are not closely mown and have lost of bare areas. The rough was extremely long in places causing lost balls.
Over all I cannot recommend the course right now. It is late in the year, the COVID situation all probably play into it. If you can play it expecting poor conditions then the layout may be worth the $20 on Golfnow.
Mallard Creek Golf Club - The Woods Course
Played On 06/27/2019Nice Old Style Course
First time playing here. Played the Woods 18. It was in good shape if you allow for all the rain we have had. Fairways were nicely mowed and the roof was not penal. Greens were receptive but had lots of Poa in them. Overall I enjoyed the day.
East/North Golf Course at The Legends of Massillon
Played On 05/21/2019Not Up To Usual Standards
Was disappointed to see the greens in such disrepair. Of course we've had lots of rain and little sunshine so far this spring so that probably affects this situation.
Ridge Top Golf Course
Played On 07/25/2018Nice Old Style Course
Ridge Top is an old style tree lined golf course. No big surprises. Par 5's are reachable in two if you can get 240+ off the tees. Lot's of dog legs both ways. Lots of sand. Overall a fairly simple course. Would be an easy course to walk.
Wasioto Winds at Pine Mountain State Park Golf Course
Played On 07/15/2018Great Links Course
This is a well thought out design. It flows very well and there are no bottleneck holes. The course is a bit rough in areas but it is in a low lying area and lots of rain is not its friend.
Greens were aereated but did not cause any problems. Greens were receptive and putts rolled true. Greens were on the slow side today.
I could play this course every day from a different tee and enjoy each round. Great course overall.
East/North Golf Course at The Legends of Massillon
Played On 07/11/2018Perfect as always
Hard to imagine a 3.5 hour round but we enjoyed that at Legends East/North today. Greens were a tad slower than their usual speed but smooth. Had a wonderful fast paced round.
Raccoon Hill Golf Club
Played On 07/09/2018Old Style
This is an old style tree lined course with small greens and lots of sand and water. It provided a moderate challenge to mid handicappers.
The Quarry Golf Club
Played On 06/25/2018Great as always
This course does not seem to get much play through the week. If you can go in the morning you can get around in about 3.5 to 4 hours. Course is a great layout and conditions are excellent. There are a few spots on the course where there are very wet soggy conditions. these are well marked and you need to avoid them. The greens were running at least 10 and you dare not be above the hole. Overall a great layout and alot of fun.
Regulation Eighteen at Shawnee Hills Golf Course
Played On 06/07/2018SLOOOOOW!!
Played at 11:15 on a Thursday. The front nine took 2 hours 20 minutes. Waited on every shot at times 5 minutes. Saw a ranger who appeared to be looking for balls in the trees - not pace of play. This seems to be the MO of many of the Metro Park Courses.
If you have the patience to wait on most shots this is a fun course. If you like a quick pace of play avoid this course.
The Quarry Golf Club
Played On 05/01/2018Good as always
Quarry was in good shape. Greens were a little rough but that has to do with the horrible spring weather we've had. Overall a great experience.
Maplecrest Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2016Average Course
Like most golf courses in this economy Maplecrest is cutting corners. Course was in fair shape but no matter where you looked you saw things being let go...bunkers untouched for quite awhile, grass overgrowth, holes that had been left far too long, tees that had been overused in that spot.
Maplecrest is a simple layout with narrow landing areas and extremely long par threes even from the short tees. Several over 200 from the tees I played. I'll go back because of the GolfNow prices and the convenience to my home. Don't drive too far and don't pay over $15 as I don't believe it is worth any more than that in its current condition.
Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club
Played On 04/13/2016Tremendous Layout
This course is a beast from the tips. You must hit very precise tee shots and even then they may or may not stay in the fairway. Played when the bermuda was dormant so course was very firm.
Now having said that, this is a beautiful course. Every hole is beautiful and has a very appealing bend to it. there are very few straight holes. The par threes are long but fair and there are lots of bunkers. Fairways are all sloped but you can cut some corners and get the ball into a good flat lie.
Overall, take your B game or better and be prepared to enjoy a great layout with very few even lies and very challenging greens.
Remington Golf Club
Played On 01/21/2015Super Layout
Water on nearly every hole. Really had to think before you pulled out the driver. Greens had some great features with regard to undulation and tiers. Better get ball on correct tier to score. Overall a great track.
East at Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 01/20/2015Seen Better Days
Played these courses in the 80's and it was a true resort course. Very well manicured etc. Fast forward to 2015 and both the East course and the South course are in decline to say the least. Piles of debris all over the edges of the course - areas that are still in play. Greens were adequate but slow. Fairways were decent but some areas were bare. Tees were adequate.
I would recommend this pair of courses because of the layout. The East course is an Arnold Palmer design and is fun to play. The South course is Andy Bean/Ron Garl design and is more open and a bit longer. Still fun to play. Don't go if it is more than $20 because it is not worth more than than.
Shelby Crossing Golf Course
Played On 08/09/2014Worth the drive
I did not expect much since my fee was $14.
When I saw the course from the road I was a bit shocked. It looked lush and well kept. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They found three guys for me to join and they had been members at Shelby Country Club when it had been private. They helped me all the way around.
The tees and fairways were in good shape and the greens were above average. Pace of play was just under four hours and we played behind a fivesome.
It was 1.25 hours from my house in Akron but I will go back monthly till the snow flies. I'd recommend playing this course up to $25 but don't think I'd pay more than that due to the drive.
Had a sandwich at the turn and it was about $10 with fries and a drink and tip. Not a bad sandwich either!
Overall I'll recommend this course to my friends and will try to get our Friday group to play this one.
The Quarry Golf Club
Played On 06/03/2014Headed The Wrong Way
It has been a very tough Spring for course conditions. However this is a high priced course so one expects better than average conditions. The course was barely average based on other courses in the area and not as good as some. Greens were very bumpy and slow yet they were firm. Many areas are in need of repair. Don't know if this is due to weather or not. The layout of the course is great but the conditions leave a lot to be desired. I do hope the owners decide to spend some money and bring this course back to where it was the last time I played it three years ago. I was impressed with everything then.
Village Greens Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/10/2014Great Value
Course was in great shape considering it is March. Have had a lot of rain so grass was not perfectly conditioned nor were the greens. However, the course had a very good layout and is sloped properly. I played it with my brother in just under 3 hours. No delays and no waiting. Overall it was a great value and good course that I will return to as soon as possible.
The Preserve at Verdae
Played On 12/20/2013Great Track
Played this October 4, 2013. Course was in great shape with only a few spots that were less than pristine. Looked like they had water standing for a while in a few areas.
Played from the Blue Tees at 6630 or so and a slope of 133. I'm a 0 hcp and this was a challenging course that had me use every club in my bag. Great forced carries with some blind shots. Had to throttle back a few times off the tee but other times you needed to hit all you had to set up for an approach. Overall I had a ball on this course and hope to play it again in March 14.
If you have a chance to play this like I did for $23 it is a steal!! Some great vistas as you go around the course but for the most part you feel as if you are the only ones on the course. A true gem.
Little Mountain Country Club
Played On 10/9/2013Gem!!!
WOW!! What a great track. My first time playing LM. It is absolutely spectacular. Every hole is challenging. Even the par 3's while short are a challenge because of the contours and tiers of the greens. Greens were running about 10. Perfect surfaces. Some visible vistas that were just great.
This is the very best deal on Golfnow in my opinion. Little Mountain is a must play. Got it on a hot deal under $20 which made this my best golfing value for 2013. That includes several rounds at Firestone south!!
Do yourself a favor and GO!!
Read some of the other comments and I would agree with some that the bunkers need work. I was not in a single bunker all day so I failed to comment. My playing partner was in one or two and he had difficulty getting out.
East/North Golf Course at The Legends of Massillon
Played On 9/10/2013SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!
No way nine holes should take 3 hours on this course. Never saw a ranger and the group of 4 in front of us waited on every shot due to a threesome in front of them and who knows what was in front of that ridiculously slow group. For crying out loud it was a Tuesday not a Saturday!!
Tees and fairways were a little sparse in some areas. Fairways were lush and well groomed. Greens did not hold well but did putt true. My buddy and I played three balls each so we got a good feel for the greens.
Only played the East course due to time constraints. Starter was sympathetic and offered to let us play that nine again since it was not as crowded and the problem groups had turned to the North course.
Staff was cordial and helpful but the need some rangers with guts enough to move play along. The ridiculous time of play is the reason I would not recommend this course and the reason I will not go back even at $13 for 18 holes!!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
