Lake Oswego Golf Course

$25 "Hot Deal" was a lousy deal. Having played this course numerous times over the years, I was sadly disappointed at the conditions there. The fairways were brown, dry and unkempt, offering no roll or ability to take a divot. The greens even worse, with severely damaged, un-puttable surfaces on every single one of them. I drove 50 miles to meet a friend who travelled from Bend, only to wish I had picked another course. Won't go back...

Played On 11/20/2018A pleasant golf day
Charbonneau is a neat, short, well kept course, nestled inside a senior housing estate with very nice homes and pleasant people round about. It is well laid out with a variety of challenges on each hole, but none too difficult for any experienced player, except the par threes are often a bit long for the novice golfer to make the green in one. Overall it is challenging but enjoyable, where I (who averages around 100 but typically closer to 90 here), have played some very low scores, despite the reduced round par totals.
Santiam Golf Club
Played On 10/17/2015A perfectly challengine handicapper course!
We snagged a "Hot Deal" tee time and saved BIG, and played 18 holes on a very well laid out course (albeit the design or markings to next hole was a bit confusing on a few holes), but overall a beautiful course with perfect greens was just right for a couple of 25+ handicappers. Recommended to all levels, with just enough sand and hazards to keep it interesting.
Red/Yellow at Charbonneau Golf Club
Played On 11/08/2014A freindly well designed senior village course
I have played this short par 62 course a few times, and always enjoyed the layout and challenges. The par three's are a little too long for most average golfers, but the other holes are not too long and well planned, albeit it would be nice to have a couple par 5's to increase the birdie potential. There is plenty of sand and a few water hazards to keep it interesting, but the homes lining the fairways can be a challenge for slicers going OB. Overall a very enjoyable course.
Crestview Golf Club
Played On 09/28/2014A very challengine nine hole course
Good layout, challenging bunkers and hazards, but most pars were attainable by average to good golfers. The variety of the green layouts and somewhat hilly, changing terrain made it very diverse and interesting. A fun course to test your skills.
McNary Golf Club
Played On 09/18/2014A uniquely challenging course
This course is well designed and offers enough hazards and OB areas to keep you on your toes. The layout is unique with homes on the outskirts of most of the course, but were only occasionally in a 'slicer's' line of fire. The greens were terrible as they has just been aerated and sanded, and I could have easily saved a dozen strokes because of this. Still, I would enjoy returning when they settle and try the course again.
Oak Knoll Golf Course & Driving Range
Played On 09/09/2014A great getaway
This course is well laid out, offers unique challenges on every hole, but it's hazards are not too difficult for the average golfer. It seems like a bit more fun than many courses, because par is achievable but still not so easy.
King City Golf Course
Played On 08/07/2014A sweet 9-hole getaway
This course is well laid out, has very nice greens and is relatively easy to play with minimal hazards and excellent fairways.
Lake Oswego Golf Course
Played On 07/20/2014a challenging par-3 course
I've played Lake-O many years before and it's not a bad place to practice your 'short game', but the driver rarely comes out of the bag, and since you're typically hitting less shots - for a lower par rating, it seems a bit over priced to play there, including the $25 cart fee. You're done in 3 hrs and typically it's 4 to 5 hours at a full course for about the same or less money.
The greens were in good shape and their speeds were consistent but the layout of the course is confusing and the proximity off fairways to greens and tee boxes is often a little close for comfort. I Also found many shots rolling off the greens due to their small size and the very short layups, so it's not an intermediate-friendly-golfer course. Overall I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
Vernonia Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2014this course is a pleasant change from the city
I found a 'hot deal' on Golf Now late Sat. eve, checked the Vernonia weather report and set an 8 am tee time. The course if about an hour drive but proved worth it as the weather had been so hot in the Portland area we didn't want to try golfing in 88+ deg. heat. It was perfect - partly cloudy as it gets some appreciable left-over coastal weather patterns.
The pace was average, a bit slow on a few holes, layout a little confusing but once understood, worked well overall, and the greens a tad rough but typically quite consistent. I had a few nice set-ups and surprised myself on the 18th with a birdie from 130 yards out - my first ever from the fairway! Overall it was an enjoyable round and my lowest score in many months!
The Mook at Alderbrook
Played On 8/18/2013A well engineered course that lacks finishing touches.
The front nine were well maintained although the greens were slow and unpredictable. The back nine was poorly maintained and had only one ball washer, only on the 18th tee! Some of the greens were under repair and totally unsatisfactory. Some of the cart paths were too steep and caused some trepidation on the back nine as well. The fairways were not clearly defined, nor were the directions to the next hole always evident. Overall, I would rate it a 2.5 or 3 out of 5.... room for improvement.
