Hidden Valley Golf Club
Played On 12/14/2018Didnt love the conditions
Ill preface my review with a disclaimer, I really love this course...But, I was very disappointed in the condition of the course. The greens were slow and shaggy. The grass around many of the bunkers, has grown real long and thick, you wont find your ball if it goes in there. It looks poorly maintained, as opposed to trying to make it more difficult. The boxes are under maintenance which is fine. But probably my biggest issue, is how poorly thought out some of these pin placements are. Im an 8 handicap, so Im not bothered by a challenging green. But on 17, you couldn’t stop the ball at the hole. Its always a tough green, but this was stupid. If you dropped a ball from your knee at the hole, it would roll to the bottom of the green. Mind you, the greens were slow too. 2 had a similarly poor pin position as well. The pace was fine once we got past 5. The fairways were decent but a little more chewed up than they are typically. I suspect come spring it will be back to its pristine shape that I come to expect from one of my favorite courses around.
Oak Quarry Golf Club
Played On 11/16/2018Pretty good conditions
Course was in better than average conditions. Greens rolled true and were not bumpy. Pace was solid, a little slow through the first 4 holes, but always opens up to a good pace. Couple areas on the course were a little beat up. If you hit it just short of bunkers on #1, you pretty have to play it GUR. Many of the bunkers had standing water in them therefore a drop has to be played. Fairways were great and tee boxes were in great shape albeit surprisingly shaggy on just a few holes. I wouldn’t want to see this course in worse conditions as that would make me pause before ponying up higher than average green fee rates. But I love this track and typically shoot 80-74 here. We paid $69+$5 for a.bucket. I think this course is worth the rate we paid, as long as its in good shape, it was today.

The course is in good shape despite the heat. The greens rolled about 90-95% true. Considering the amount of play the course gets, I would say the conditions are very good.
Dos Lagos Golf Course
Played On 05/11/2018Poor conditions
Played here 5/11/18. Definitely disappointed with the condition of the course. The greens were bumpy and slow. For them to be that way this long after punching, kinda tells me everything I need to know about this course. It's a great layout with some pretty challenging holes. 3 through 7 will challenge any single digit index player. On the back, 11 through 16 are all tough holes especially for shorter hitting players. If some TLC was put into this course, it could be a real fun test for any golfer. Unfortunately it seems to receive minimal reinvestment back into it. I would pay $75 during the week here, if this course was in primo condition. Keeping my fingers crossed the conditions here will dramatically improve.

In the last year, I have played this course less and less. The course is decent at best, but ownership clearly nickle dimes this place and it shows. 1 golfer cant take a cart by his/her self. They make you ride with somebody because they dont have enough carts. The conditions are decreasing in quality steadily, and the staff here sucks. They are rude and unpleasant. Used to be a gem, now its a NO PLAY, if youre a decent golfer and care about course conditions and service.
San Dimas Canyon Golf Course
Played On 12/31/2015Never Again!!!!
Tried playing here in late December, but walked off the course after the 14th hole. 10:05am tee time, and it took 5 hours and 15 minutes to 14 holes. This is what you get with American Golf anymore. I won't play any of their courses. Its all about cramming as many people out there as possible. San Dims is a nice track, but it takes too darn long to play here anymore.
The Golf Club at Rancho California
Played On 11/08/2015Poorly maintained
Played on a Sunday morning. Course was not that busy. Fairways are good on some holes and pretty poor on others. The areas that lay beyond the rough are very poor and make finding any ball in rough areas, a real challenge. Some places have clearly been completely ignored and the growth was quite excessive. We have had very little rain in So Cal but the course had plenty of flat out muddy areas around the greens. Any approach shot that didn't land on green, could easily plug and be very tough to locate. It happened more than a few times in our group. ALL approach shots leave big ball marks. Keep your divot tool handy. The greens, just stupid. They are naturally quick and undulating. But the pin placements were often stupid and illegal. One of the guys in our group is a rules official. He counted 8 illegal pin placements. With greens that are naturally tough, you would think the groundskeeper would know what rules are required to place pins. It made the round completely frustrating and definitely not worth ever considering this Robert Trent Jones track ever again. I was excited to play this course, left shaking my head and won't come back. Too many better courses in Temecula and Corona areas to consider this one...
Empire Lakes Golf Course
Played On 01/29/2015Great layout, could be better maintained.
This has always been a good course that will challenge you and offer rewards for the successful risks. This course was a gem back in the 90's and was well worth pricey green fees asked for a round. But its not maintained very well nowadays. When you can snag a good deal here, scoop it up, but dont pay full price. The greens are very good. Quick, well maintained and readable. The fairways are above average as well. But the surrounding areas along the fairways, tees, and greens have been neglected for quite some time. Midday rounds are go poo d, usually you will get in 18. The pro shop staff are not the friendliest, I think I recognize one of the guys from Mountain Meadows where he wasnt very popular either. Generally this is an average place to play, but will challenge you...
Upland Hills Country Club
Played On 01/15/2015Pricey for condition of course
Played this course numerous times. Really didnt like the condition of the course this time around. The fairways were horrible. The grass has gotten real thin and looks like it hasnt been overseesed in many years. The greens were slow, I mean really slow. Wont play here again anytime soon.
