Centennial Acres - Sunrise/Midday
Played On 06/05/2022Good value
I dont understand why this course insists on turning players on the midday and sunset 9s onto the sunrise 9. Drilling the holes in the cart roofs is easily the worst idea I've ever seen at any course. It guarantees you will get soaked every time you move the cart, even if its not raining very hard.
Pearland Golf Club
Played On 04/17/2018Great value
This is great course for the money !
I will include it in my normal rotation.
Houston National Golf Club
Played On 12/11/2017More of the same.
This is easily the best value for the money anywhere in Houston. I've reviewed this course a bunch of times and nothing has changed. Easily the best value for the money by a wide margin, and one of only a few that actually plays 7300 yards off the back. Love it here.
The West at Forest Akers Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2017Finally played 18 in 2.5 hours ... It was raining
Under normal circumstances, forest west is packed with foursomes that probably should be bowling. Its a fun course if the bowlers are at the bowling alley, instead of holding up the golfers at the golf course. The best way to ensure this is the case, is to go when its raining. Obviously, this presents a separate set of problems, but if your a low handicap player that isn't into screwing around all day, then its pretty much what you have to do.
Houston National Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2017Great place. Great value. Great time ....
If your golf depends on your finances in any way, then you already know we live in a world of disappointing golf courses. Houston National is the absolute exception, and for the money, it easily stands out as the best golf experience your going to find anywhere in the Houston area. Full stop, period, end of discussion.
Ledge Meadows Golf Course
Played On 07/28/2017Call ahead ...
Call ahead before you go to this course. During the week there seems to be a group of players here nearly everyday. The "Anderson group" is what I was told. Its not a formal league, but unless you want to spend 6+ hours for your eighteen holes then you absolutely cannot allow yourself to be behind them. You wont be invited to play through and they play in slow motion almost as if they want to hold everyone up. Otherwise, this is a great course that is generally in good shape and they have nice carts to boot.
Huntmore Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2017Be a millionare who plays slow ....
Don't be in a hurry here at Huntmore. You wont enjoy it here if your expecting to play a speedy round. All that being said, its a great overpriced course that can provide an enjoyable experience if your lucky enough to avoid slow players. An honest seven thousand yards is hard to find in Michigan but Huntmore has it. Unfortunately too many people that need to play at a par 3 course end up here. I will never pay the full retail price at Huntmore, for the exact same reason I wont pay 25 bucks for a big mac meal at McDonalds. Its just not worth it. In summary; don't mess with Huntmore unless your game requires you to play seven thousand yards or you have money to burn.
Calderone Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2017Love this place
This is a great place to golf if your a big hitter. Absolutely worth the money if your a back tee player. I golf all over Michigan and all over Texas. Honestly, for the money, this place is second only Houston National in Texas, and is very likely the best value for the money anywhere in Michigan. Obviously, if your not a back tee player then you may not agree, but if you can slam a driver 280+ then you have got to go to Calderone at least once.
Glenbrier Golf Course
Played On 06/22/2017Great Condition
This is an easy course. Its also inexpensive to play here. Amazingly, I have not had an issue with slow players obstructing the pace of play. Considering the economics vs the condition, only one conclusion can be drawn. Glenbriar is a great place to practice you game.
Willow Wood Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2017Short but good condition
Willow Wood is a good place to go if your fine with a short course. I don't think its even 6000 yrds off the back tees. So a low score here is kind of an inverted accomplishment. Great condition and a nice layout though.
Stonebridge at Newport
Played On 06/04/2017Worth the money.
I like this place. Its in decent condition relative to the cost. The pace of play moved along well. Range balls are cheap and its a fun course with a lot of sand traps. Ill keep this course in my regular rotation around Houston.
Battleground at Deer Park, The
Played On 05/13/2017Worth the money.
This course is ok. Its not in great condition but the price is fair for what you get. The back tees offer 6900 yards or so and I appreciate that. I probably wouldn't recommend this course without the caveat about the condition vs the cost. This place is good enough for your practice game though.
Eagle Eye Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2017The challenge is the distance.
I like this course. Not very many courses have 7k+ yards off the back tees so I appreciate the extra distance. I don't like the course ranger following me around, and at this course you will be seeing him way to often. Often enough it makes things uncomfortable. For what you pay in green fees this is not acceptable. Once or twice a year I can tolerate an unwanted escort or observer, but not more often ....
Woodside Golf Course
Played On 04/17/2017Nice track ...
I will go back to this course for sure. It was fun to play on and in good condition. Staff was friendly and the pace of play seemed to be good.
Pine Crest Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2017Worth the money.
Houston golf is somewhat expensive. Pinecrest is worth the cost as long as your just playing your practice game, but if your trying to set a personal best round or playing for money then this is probably not the place to go. I will continue to include this course in my weekly rotation because I like it.
Tour 18 Houston
Played On 01/13/2017Weird Experience
Tee time scheduled for one person at 2:08pm. I showed up at 1:30 and hit a small bucket of range balls to warm up. Approached the starter at or before 1:55 to get a cart and figure who I was playing with. I was told I had missed the group I was playing with and would have to wait until further notice. Obviously this is totally absurd. The receipt in my possession clearly states the tee time. Every golfer knows that from time to time you will tee off late, but to be expected to tee off early without any notice is just nonsense. Anyway, through no fault of my own, I ended up teeing off around 2:40pm and couldn't play the last two holes because of sundown. I paid to play eighteen holes not sixteen. Blame for this mishap can be placed squarely upon the staff operating this course. Claiming otherwise would be an indefensible position, as I was present and accounted for the entire time.
Hi "AmotoXracer" We apologize about the miscommunication at the course today. You shouldnt have to wait an additonal 30 minutes after your scheduled tee time because your original group tee'ed off early. We are extremely sorry about this, we will be contacting you directly via email to make things right with you. We hope that you will give us another try once everything is cleared up. Thanks MGT
Greatwood Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2017Groups of 5 ???
Nothing worse than being behind two groups of five. I don't know where this group of five nonsense comes from but there was no ranger on the day I played so the madness continues ....
The West at Forest Akers Golf Course
Played On 10/10/2016Things move slow at forest acres ....
This is a fun course but you can forget about being done in 4.5 hours. Pretty much everyone moves in slow motion and unless your the first tee time, your going to be stuck behind some shameless group of 6+hour per round players. Also if your a big hitter then chances are very good your going to put one on an adjacent tee box, which is fine if theres a slow group standing on it ....
Thanks for the 3-star review AmotoXracer! We are constantly working on pace of play so thanks for the encouragement to keep working at it. Go Green!
Houston National Golf Club
Played On 03/15/2016Dont hit somones mansion or porsche ...
This is a great place to golf for the money. I should clarify that the afternoon pricing is substantially less than in the morning, and its the afternoon pricing that is absolutely worth it. There are houses along most fairways so if your a curve ball hitter then this is not the best place to sharpen your game.
Thank you so much for your review and feedback of Houston National Golf Club. We are so happy you had such a great experience and you realize the value in playing here. Please come back and see us again very soon.
Thanks for the 4-star review AmotoXracer! As long as no lightning and no flooding we'll be here when it rains for you. We are constantly working on pace of play, thanks for the encouragement to keep working at it. Go Green!
