Romanby Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/12/2021Lovely way to spend a Monday morning
This was our first visit for over a year because of the pandemic and the course was in lovely condition. Romanby is a good challenge for us and the 11th is particularly scary. The greens were in good condition and the ball rolled well even though in April they are not at their fastest. We always enjoy playing the course but the only criticism we have is that there are no distance markers ( ie 150 yard posts ) that are clearly visible from all parts of the fairway. The only markers are the discs laid in the turf (200, 150 and 100 yards) of the centre line of the fairway and even those were in poor condition with paint peeling and grass over growing them and you only see them when you walk directly over them. Some simple marker posts at the side of the fairway would improve this situation immeasurably.
Aldwark Manor Estate Golf
Played On 06/26/2020Course affected by works on hotel
We have played this course many times and it is a good challenge. Not particularly long but the lay out with trees, water features and the river Ouse make for some tight and tricky tee shots and a need to be in the right place on the fairway if you are to be able to reach greens in regulation. The current situation means that the facilities available are limited but the pro shop was open and reasonably stocked.
The only disappointment on the day was that as the hotel itself appears to be going through some major overhaul, the 3rd hole was closed, the par 3 15th was shortened to a temporary green and the tee on the par 5 17th had been moved forward about 120 yards.
Overall though not bad for £16
Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club
Played On 02/26/2019Stunning February day to play!
The stunning day certainly made the round today! Blue skies, warm sun and hardly a breath of wind! Second time we had played the course so had a better awareness of layout. Course is a good challenge without being massively long to dishearten average players like us! Tree lined fairways means accuracy off the tee is needed on a lot of holes with a number of wider fairways that allowed us to have a go with the driver! Will be back again
Cookridge Hall Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2019Lovely course, great challenge
Played on a really pleasant January day and course was in very good condition. All greens in play and most of the tee boxes with a just a few mats. Enjoyed the round and only negative point was having to play off small plastic mats we were given when we checked in to pro shop.
Easingwold Golf Club
Played On 12/14/2018Course in very nice condition for time of year
The course was in very nice condition considering we are in December. All greens in play and running really well. Having 19 holes is a real advantage to Easingwold so that they can close one to carry out winter works but still have a full 18 holes open. Was a nice, sunny, calm day when we played which certainly added to the enjoyment All fairways are still quite dry and firm so we weren’t blathered in mud and didn’t have to search for plugged balls. Clubhouse staff very friendly and food very good at reasonable prices!
Oulton Hall Golf & Country Club - Calvelry Course
Played On 11/26/2018Nice course, expensive clubhouse!
Course was in good condition despite all the rain lately. We played holes 1 to 9 then 19 to 27, holes 10 to 18 were closed for work by green staff. Greens were very good on 1 to 9, good paced and true but 19 to 27 had been hollow tined so were a bit slower and bumpier, but still ok. The course is a good challenge with some tricky to reach greens well protected by bunkers and water in places, as well as changes in elevation.
After our round we went into the bar as we usually do, to sample the food and the beer and this was the most disappointing part of the day. A pint of Peroni lager and a bitter shandy was £10.50! We looked at the food menu, sausage sandwich, (£3/ £3.50 in most clubs) £5 but only served until 11am. Egg mayo or ham sandwich £6/£7 so decided not to bother and instead asked for 2 bags of crisps which were £2 a bag. £14.50 for 2 pints and 2 bags of crisps!
There were quite a good few people out on the course but only about 6 people in the bar and they were drinking tea!
Will go back and play the course again but avoid the bar!
Horsforth Golf Club
Played On 11/16/2018Great value on a really nice course
Autumn conditions kicking in when we played but course still in great condition and the greens were the best we’ve played in a while! Course is a good challenge with some very interesting holes especially the 10th and 18th.
Really friendly guys in the Pro shop made us feel very welcome and nice clubhouse with great chip butty at only £2.50. Will definitely be back. Great for plane spotting as well by the way!
Cookridge Hall Golf Club
Played On 10/09/2018Lovely course in a great location
This was our second visit to Cookridge Hall so we had a better idea of the layout. Definitely not a driver from every tee and as someone else said, a course you need to plot your way around to score well. Fantastic views of the surrounding area from a number of tees and greens. Comfortable clubhouse with good food at reasonable prices, will be back again.
