Berrington Hall Golf Club
Played On 03/15/2022The winter has not been kind
Winter has done Berrington no favours at all, they're on a mix of tee matts, tee boxes and randon bits of gound as places to tee off from so that's not a brilliant start. The greens look like they are really struggling the grass coverage looks heavily interwoven with a sort of mossy covering too, but in general there are a lot of scruffy areas around the course which is a shame as it has potential. The pace of play was pretty torturous too when we played

My first visit to Davyhulme and I have to say I really do like the course, the only reason I haven't given everything 5 stars is that I didnt use the clubhouse facilities so I cant comment on them. The course seems to have had a change of layout as some of the marker posts on tees are different from the new ones, but its a great layout, not particularly long but well protected with strategically placed trees and the odd bit of water here and there, the greens are soft, a little too soft in some cases almost but they are in good condition and run very true. All in all a great coirse and super friendly staff too.

The review below seems overly harsh to me, Berrington is a pretty good layout, a little imbalanced in the sense the front 9 is much tighter than the back, you can't smoke driver off every tee, the first 4 holes has a pat 3 and the other 3 really do need a bit of position over length. It does open up later on and I can imagine how off the whites and the new tees this could be a real test. That said, some of the tee areas need work and for sure a lot of the greens have been damaged, personally I would implore the club to spend money on the best head green keeper they can find not on new teeing areas, get the course right that will bring in more money, THEN reinvest. Better a good short course than a poor long one. After that its general tidiness for me, some whispy grass in the fairways and so on. This course has so much potential. I play because its literally 5 mins from home and a super modest price, no disrespect meant but if you want a championship course go pay £60 a head minimum.
