It had been 40 years since I last played the course. I had forgotten how small and challenging the greens are. It is a superb older layout that definitely requires you to golf your ball. There are great views as well. I was so glad I got the opportunity to play the course again.

I have played the course before and it is a very enjoyable layout. Unfortunately on this day the pace of play was ridiculous. The course ranger sort of kept things moving on the front nine. However, he seems to have left by the time we hit the back. The pace of play for the back nine was close to three hours for a five hour round. The people in front of us probably had two open holes in front of them. There is no excuse for that.

The course is fun and very playable. The greens roll well and defend the course reasonably well. I have always managed to get paired with good companions. The staff is very friendly.

The layout of the course is very good. Sadly it is in very poor shape. In addition to the course needing a large infusion of money, the cart paths need major help. I had to ice my back after the jarring I took on the course. I hope the course recovers because I think it would be superb if it were in better shape.

I played Maryland National after it was recommended by a starter at another course. What a great experience. There was a lot of elevation change, great vistas, and an excellent layout. It has the feel of older courses that I have played with blind shots, and sloping fairways. I can't wait to return to the area and play the course again,

It is always a treat to play the Dunes. The greens were in excellent shape and I never had a bad lie in the fairway. The pro shop staff was exceptionally helpful and courteous. There was a snafu with my booking the tee time through Golfnow, but they resolved it without any additional stress to me.

One last note for anyone playing the course. Take whatever club you need to be in the fairway - even if it's an iron. It's easier to score from the short grass than from the water.

The golf course is a good layout. It was breezy, so that added another layer to the challenge. I played early afternoon and I wasn't paired with anyone. Two groups let me through early and I played at a good pace.

The biggest problem is the encroachment of poa annua on the greens. I noticed area that had been worked on and I saw workers doing repairs, but it is also something that they need to get under control.

The course was pretty firm in spite of some recent rains. The gusty wind made the course more challenging. The greens are rolling well. They're not as fast as they once were, but greens that are rolling close to 12 definitely slow down the pace of play. The pace of play was good.
