Shalimar Golf Club
Played On 12/26/2017Country Club?
This has to be the loosest use of the term Country Club I’ve ever seen. Every other Country Club in the world should file a formal complaint.
This “18” hole course is just 9 holes that you have the privilege of playing twice. Nevermind that after finishing the “front” 9 there might be 4 groups stacked at #1 waiting to tee off.
Tee boxes: C+
Fairways: C
Greens: B+ (Tiny greens mean they are easy to keep up, well played)
Views: Sad houses
Overall this course is a relic of the mid-80’s. A course that was plopped in the middle of a sad neighborhood. This course is worth $50 for “18” if the starter (kidding, there was no starter) hands you $60 at the beginning of your round. Don’t be fooled by the name of this course.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 12/07/2017Great Course
This is a great course that will make you hit almost every club in your bag. Challenging layout and angles from the tips but it’s a really fun course. I highly recommend playing this course.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 07/22/2017"Country Club"
If this place is a country club, then every municipal course on earth should be able to tout themselves as a country club. Some highlights of the course:
- Clubhouse straight out of the 80's
- Uneven/unrolled tee boxes
- Patchy fairways with large dead spots not under repair
- Slow pace of play with no Marshall asking a slow 4-some to pick up the pace
- Greens as soft as a parking lot
I'm sure this place was great in 1982, but I wouldn't pay $3 to golf there again.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 03/25/2017No GPS
The course and facilities are top notch. The only area they fall short is their carts. No GPS. There are municipal courses with $50 greens fees that have GPS in their carts.
Lakewood Country Club
Played On 04/28/20166 Hour Round
6 hour round on a Saturday right? Wrong. We teed off at 1:30 and raced daylight to finish. Followed a 4-some and 5-some of walkers. At no point did a Marshall address the slow pace of play.
