Great course outside of San Antonio at a good price

The course was great. With the recent upgrade of the golf cart I can see that they are spending a good amount of investment to get this course going. The greens and the fairways were in much condition compared to the last time I played here.

The course isn't difficult. It just asks for a good shot with a forgiveness on the tee box.

It is worth the trip down to Castroville from San Antonio to play.

Can't beat under $20 green fee

Best value for money and moderately easy. Green need work but they roll as intended, bit uneven.

The course overall is OK.

Interesting and challenging course. Requires few maintenance

The course was great and tough on few holes. Not all holes are "take out your driver and go for it". You have to be smart with your first shot off the tee box with your driver, fairway wood and hybrids/long irons.

I wish they used the time to roll the bumps out from the greens and cut them so that the golf ball releases bit smoother off the putter face.

Timing was good. Managed to get around in the morning without a sweat. The crowd that plays here are generally fast players.

Nice challenging public course.

I really like this course. I try to play at least once a month here since moving down from Ohio last July. The price is high but probably the best public course in San Antonio. You want a challenge, play this course. Not for people whose has a high handicap of 15.

The course is surrounded by natural bushland at each hole. You have to bring your best game at the tee box. Second shots are generally easy once you get the ball on the fairway. Since you are hitting at the hill country, wind becomes a factor as the ball climbs higher away from the elevation. The green is in a good shape. True roll, nothing too suspicious.

Fun and moderately difficult course. All holes are unique.

I played here 3 times. The course is in a nice shape for this time of the year. The greens roll truly (very firm) and at a fast speed. FYI, all greens are not at the same color. So be aware when you are putting because the speeds will vary. Don't put too much spin on the down sloped greens with wedge shots if you are a fast swinger.

I played on the tips, therefore the driver and 3 wood come out to play more actively. Hybrids and long irons (like 2, 3, 4 iron) come into play off the tee box.

Fairway is in a good shape and very fluffy therefore you won't get much carry off the driver/wood and long irons.

Rough is in a good shape, enough height to take the spin off the ball on the fast green.

I recommend it for guys playing off the tip because all of the clubs are played throughout the game. If you can hit your hybrid, 3/5 wood and long iron off the tee box very accurately you will be rewarded.

If you know how to play Authur Hills' Courses this is a great course for you

I always been a fan of Authur Hills' courses especially up in the Michigan and Ohio region where I resided before moving to San Antonio, TX.

His signature courses entice you to play aggressive but it also calmly hits you back of your head for that "What were you thinking?" moment but gives you bailout spots if you use the right club. If you know how to use all of the clubs in the bag from driver to the putter, this is a nice course for you. If you are long hitter like me, I used 3 wood and 2 iron off the tee 10 out of 14 holes that are Par 4 and 5 off the tip. There are few holes that are not driver friendly but thankfully the fairways are fast, trimmed and hard to allow additional distance upon landing.

The greens are in good shape, fast and firm. Ironically the practice green has the most severe slopes compare to the greens on the golf course. My hint to you is that it does not break as much as you think ;)

Only perk was that the cart girl only visited us once after playing 14 holes when the weather was 95F with over 50 percent humidity.

Tester for all elements of your game and exposes weaknesses

I really enjoyed playing this course on the back tees. The tee shots required sheer accuracy and smart ball placement on the fairway as well as knowing where you can bail out. Shots onto green were the greatest challenge and the course will punish you for missing the greens. Chipping in the rough is a strong skill set you can bring to the course to improve your score.

My driver stayed in the bag most of the time while the 3 wood, 2 iron and 3 iron were the most active clubs at the tee while mid iron, short iron and gap wedge were the most active clubs for the approach onto the green.

The greens can be little bit faster for better release and take the slope of the green at full advantage. Plus the yardage of the holes on the backside of the scorecard was a great idea! All courses should do that to speed up game play and better club selection from the tee.

Points: Value, course condition and experience

I really enjoyed my day out here. Although it sits outside of Toledo. This course is a hidden gem. Easily the best value for money course. The course offers easily accessible pins IF you smartly place your ball onto the safest portion of the fairway with the right club. HINT: Fairway Wood, Hybrid and Driving Iron come in handy. Be prepared to play well with the wind and gust.

The greens were at moderate speed but I prefer them slightly faster as well as the fairway (although it was raining the day before). Roughs are generous.

The staff are friendly especially inside the bar.

So bring your A game. Not all holes are driver friendly :)

Course with potential but requires some work and simple improvement

Interesting course with lot of potential . Very short course but it took close to 4.5 hours to play therefore I recommend a course supervisor to be more active on the course to increase the speed of play.

Overall the course condition were OK. I would recommend that they did some more work on the green to speed them up (roll and trim). They were very slow, bumpy and inconsistent. Also the fairway needs some trimming. Hardly no roll at all.

If you embrace the name of country club. Act and be like one or remove the country part out.

Best value for money and its quality

Riverby Hills is a nice and easy challenging course that rewards accurate tee shots for amateur players off the tee (I hope that they can cut the fairway grass so that it runs out further). The staff did an excellent job proving risk/reward pin positions on the day I played.

Although the Spring scene was in the air with weeds popping up aggressively in our front yard. They managed to control the weed growth very well. Literally there were no weed growth on each hole.

The greens were in good shape, firm and moderately speed.

I recommend it to regular weekend golfer who can play well with the wind.

Short tricky

The course is very nice and tight. If you miss a fairway, it will hurt you. It would have been nice if they blew the leaves away from green and tee box consistently during the heavy portion of the late fall.
