“Good” Shape

The fairways and tee boxes are “shaggy” with winter rye but it doesn’t affect the play. They over seeded several weeks back so I’m not sure why they still are keeping them long. The greens are good to very good. Sand traps are not maintained all that great but it’s not terrible. I would play here every weekend EXCEPT they are charging about $8-$10 more than surrounding courses that are in just as good or better condition. I like this course! The staff is pleasant and it’s a challenging track but it is over priced by a bit right now. I’ll still rec and still play once a month unless they bring the price down. I get that it’s winter rates here in Florida but at least be reasonable. No beverage cart as well. Driving range is down the road from the club house. They need to make the ball dispenser able to take money or CC.

It’s BAD

Been playing this course for 2 years now and the one thing that you could always count on was the greens being in good to great condition. The greens and the layout was the main reasons to play here. Unfortunately, the greens are complete trash right now and that’s a nice word to use. I won’t be playing this course for the next couple of months or until I hear that the greens are back. I’m assuming at least 6 weeks if they jump on them right now. They are bad! The layout is fun with elevation changes and challenging dog legs. The fairways have 3 different types of grass/weeds growing in them, the tee boxes are horrible and the rough is just a bunch of weeds. Again, this course use to have some of the best greens in the county but once they lost them then there is NO REASON to play here. Too bad.

Good Condition

Tee boxes, fairways, and fringe are in excellent condition. Sand traps were wet and “hard” but not a big deal. The greens are what matters to me the most and I would call them in Good condition. I would rec this course easily right now and the $40’ish green fees were reasonable. Two biggest issues with this course are NO Bev cart and the driving range is located 2 miles from the club house. If you know these things then you can plan for it and it’s not a huge deal. I bring a cooler with drinks and snacks and give myself extra time to stop at the driving range on the way to the clubhouse.

Favorite Course

I LOVE this course. The staff is really friendly and MOST of the members / residents are friendly as well. Cathy is an absolute delight.
This last time we played it was the day before they were going to be aerating so they had some bad spots on the course knowing that they were about to be repaired BUT it was STILL in better condition than most other courses. The layout is challenging yet friendly.
My only complaint is that they don’t have a bev cart and they have a REALLY nice bar that is never open on Sundays after our round. Normally we would go in and have a few but we had to go somewhere else.
As a pure course experience though I would rec this course to everyone!

Good Condition right now

Course is in really good condition right now. In particular the greens. They have VERY soft greens so you can attack pins. Tee boxes are a bit busted up but I don’t really care about that personally. Fairways and bunkers are well kept. They have some good people working there and always have a bev cart.
Cart paths are a disaster and it’s one of the “bumpiest” courses we play. Riding in the golf cart can be a bit jarring. My biggest complaint is that they STACK tee times and the pace of play on weekend mornings is incredibly slow. They do have rangers but you rarely see them and they don’t ever do anything about the pace. They just drive around.
I would definitely recommend this course. It has so much potential to be an elite course.

Nicest course in Central Florida

Although this course is VERY difficult to get on if you stay persistent it is well worth it. This course is definitively the best course in this area of Ocala and surrounding towns/cities. The practice area is exceptional and is nicer then most golf courses. The staff is friendly, in particular Cathy who it seems never leaves the place. The course itself is top to bottom the best. Tee boxes, sand traps , fairways and greens are all pristine. The layout is challenging but not the hardest course there is. Now, the greens, well, that’s where you will give away strokes. Very fast and difficult to settle into. Highly rec this course and will continue to play as much as they let me.

solid course

This course is in our normal rotation of courses and we generally enjoy playing here. This was no different this time around. The course is in decent shape but it does have that end of season feel to it. I know that are getting to aeration at the end of June so we wanted to get some rounds in before that happens and I look forward to seeing if the seasonal facelift brings some life back into the course. Enjoy the lay out very much. There is 3 or 4 greens that they seem to have perpetual problems with but the greens that are good are very good so you kind of take the good with the bad. Much more good than bad in this case. There is no beverage cart so if you tee off early bring drinks and snacks yourself.

Thank you for playing and rating our golf course. Your feedback is appreciated. Yes we are in the transition from winter to summer and there is always a period of less than optimum conditions. It shouldn't last long and we'll be back where we want to be.

Reviews have the wrong course

I have NO idea where some of these reviews are coming from. I am a self proclaimed golf course snob and I did not have that big of a problem with this course. Now, there is the Meadows course which I have never played but did here that they closed it down because it got in such poor condition. I played in a 4 man scramble at the end of May and didn't pay for it so I cant speak on the value of the green fees but I would have been fine paying $30-$34 to play here. The course is short but can make some of the par 4's fun for big hitters that want to go for it. There IS 3-4 greens that have "issues" going on with them but the rest of the greens are truly some of the nicest in the area. There is some small elevation changes that create blind spots so knowing the course is helpful.
Overall I am looking to going back and playing my own ball to see how well i can do. By the way, this course is the sister course to Terra Vista at Skyview which is the nicest public course around right now.

Not open to the public

Just in order to save anyone time looking into playing this course they are not currently open to the public due to COVID.

It’s the only course in the area that I have found doing this still.

Solid golf course

I have always been a fan of this golf club. It is wide open on Sunday mornings and doesn’t really get any golfers until 9:30-10:00. The course was in decent shape but I can see some of the greens starting to “go away”. I’m no greens keeper but some of the greens look like they have a “bug” of some kind. I have seen this course where the greens look like carpet because they are so nice. Not currently in that shape. The bunkers aren’t even being maintained currently so stay out of them. I will definitely be playing the course again but I do believe that they are overcharging for this course. They are always around $40-$45 and when they are in great shape then it’s worth it but right now I would say that it is overcharging. Not a complaint as much as a suggestion.

Worth It

It’s tough to get a weekend morning tee time on this course but on this particular day the course was fairly open and we were even able to go earlier than our 8:30 tee time. Course is in Good to Very Good condition right now. For the cost it is by far the best deal in the area. I would highly rec this course to all golfers.

Great Value

Right now this course is in very good shape. They were charging $26 for a weekend morning round which was a fantastic deal but according to the website they have raised those rate to $35. I still will play at this price but they can’t afford to lose any part of the course conditions in order for me to keep going back.
Heritage and Memorial are easy courses and don’t require a “long ball” to score. Champions and Masters are slightly harder but still are not difficult. The only complaint I have is that they don’t allow personal coolers but at the same time they don’t have a beverage cart. Sometimes I like to get an adult beverage (or two) in me on the front nine.

Imcredibke

So, we played Skyview at the end of November last year and the greens were still healing from the complete rebuild of them. At that time I could see that it was a nice course but still needed time. Today? Phenomenal!! The greens are all healed and the course is in amazing condition. It is a high end golf course in an upscale community BUT the people/members are really friendly and the price is very fair. It was $47 plus tax and we will be paying that again next weekend. Due to Covid they are not maintaining the bunkers because they don’t want the golfers raking the bunkers and they do not have a bev cart for the same reasons but this is understood and I can’t fault them for this.
That being saiid Skyview is the nicest course in the area and then some. Tough to get an early morning weekend tee time but if you can then jump at the opportunity!!

Best Course in Ocala

Right now this course is the nicest course in the area. The condition of the course is incredible. You got to try real hard to have a thin lie. The greens are phenomenal!! There are 2 or 3 greens that have a small bare patch on them but that is being nit picky. The practice area is nicer than some courses around Ocala!!
The only thing I could rate negatively is the staff is a bit rude. Alex in the clubhouse is super nice and accommodating but others are “stand off ish”.
Highly rec this course.

Winter Condition

Had a beautiful day to enjoy a “good” course. The rough is in winter condition meaning that it is brown and matted but still very playable. Course is good but a bit thin in areas. The greens were solid but there were 3 or 4 that were pretty busted up but it did look like they were doing what they could. I enjoy this course and would not call it easy but it’s not difficult either. This is a perfectly described “moderate” level course. Played here several times and have made it a regular part of our rotation of courses.

Not like normal conditions

Quite disappointed in the condition of this course right now. Normally, this would be one of those courses that I would call “pristine” but the condition yesterday was far from it. I’m assuming that they are having a bad “moment” so I will be back but the greens were damaged and the fairways looked like they’d just aerated them a week ago and they let the grass grow over the holes. It was strange to play this course and not feel like I was playing something special . Greens are normally lightning quick and they were today but we had several putts that jumped because of damage. The staff is super friendly. Beautiful lay out and I will be back but will wait until next year after the season.

Play this Course

Played the day after Thanksgiving and it was nice!!! Paid $30 for a course in very good condition right now. There is nothing “pristine” about the course but it is overall in very good condition! Elevation changes make it very unique for this area if not ALL of Florida. It can play very long from the tips or very short from the front boxes but either way is challenging. Greens are large but run on the faster side. I can’t stress enough the price to play was very much worth the course. Maybe the winter rates will kick in so I’m glad I got the last of the good deals! Many courses in this area are charging 10-20 dollars more and are crap right now. Go enjoy this course.

Well worth the price of admission

Another reviewer on here used the term “dollar for dollar” and umm gonna steal that line because it is a great way to describe this course. This course is one of the better courses in the area right now and $10-$15 cheaper abs of this moment. I expect the fees to go up soon but Thebes course is in “very nice” shape. I am a tough critic of courses so what I say is not just hyperbole. The greens are not pristine “green” in color but they roll very nice. I say that even after 3 putting four times!!! The only criticism I have Ian the tee boxes are “rough”. They are shaggy and not very well kept but it was minimal in playability. On top of the green screen being in solid condition, the fairways, sand traps and rough are all in good shape. For those of you that have never been here I will giveback you a head start up....the driving range doesn’t exist but it is a mile or two away from the club house and a pain to go get a token at the club house and then hop back in your car to drive to the range if you want to warm up before the round. They have a VERY nice putting green next to the club house but that’s it. Also, no beverage carts but those seem to be going extinct at most courses!
Well worth the money and very much rec’d. I know we will be back plenty! Cheers to the staff as well!

Uncharacteristically Poor Greens

This is one of my favorite courses in my rotation. My reviews on this course have always been stellar. The first green on the front nine has always looked fake because it is always in such amazing shape. Not right now! I knew after seeing that first green in the shape it is in that the rest of the greens were going to be bad. They were. The worse condition I have EVER seen these greens in!! Love this course and I will be back but I am definitely going to give them a month or so in order to hopefully get these greens back into their normal condition. The fairways were fine, tee boxes were chewed up and the sand traps were great.
The last thing I would say is that I wish these courses would give people a heads up about the condition of the course when tee times are made. I would respect that so much more than letting me pay my money and THEN find out the greens are horrible. Just sayin
