Very Poor Condition right now

On this Wednesday in November the course was in VERY poor condition. We played the Masters and Champions loop but it didn’t look like the other two courses were much better. I’m assuming that they overseeded the fairways because you were not allowed to drive on them but the putting greens were longer than the fairways and there was NO first cut on the greens. You went from a long grass surroundings to the shaggy and long putting surface. I’m not a greens keeper but it looks like they “lost” the greens and they are now trying to “get them back” or at least make it LOOK like they are doing something. The problem with this is that these courses take forever to recover from any kind of damage or maintenance!! I have always played Eagle RIdge on a consistent basis over the years but when it is in this bad of shape I know I won’t be back for a couple of months.

A “Good” course

The way the reviews about this course swing from Excellent to total garbage makes me laugh. First know that I am a tough critic of golf courses and I play multiple courses a couple of times a week.
The greens here are a very solid “good”. I would say that they are the best part of the course and I think the most important. I don’t mind hitting from a thin fairway but a garbage green is no fun at all. With that said the fairways are average. I would say inconsistent at worst. Some bad spots here and there but nothing horrible. The Tee boxes were the worse part of the course. It doesn’t effect me game to tee off from a “shaggy” and unkept tee box but from a pure esthetic point of view I would say they need lots of work. As far as the traps are concern we had gotten rain the night before so they were wet and un raked but what can you do. They were void of grass or weeds. Overall at $37 “ish I would say the course is worth a visit but if I can get on Stonecreek for the same price and that course is much better all around then I would go there. I’m a fan of Royal Oaks and will be going back. BTW, staff is friendly enough but NO cart girl.

Amazing

Fathers Day Sunday. They did a promotion for $35 you get the round plus a bucket. Course was in incredible shape. The greens ran true and looked fake they were so nice. For some odd reason the 18th green was the ONLY troubled spot on the entire course!!! No big deal. Not a thin lie on the entire course. This is my favorite course around and is generally out of my budget to play on a regulars basis but if I could afford it I would play it all the time.

Not a Member....

So, this review is really only gonna be for a particular person. This is a "private: course and you need to live in the villages in order to play it but you can get on with a member which is how I ended up playing it. With that being said Im sure defenders of this course would say that I should be happy to just have played this course but my opinion is a valid one and may help someone decide in the future. My biggest problem was the cost to play. I get that they don't even need my money but do you REALY need to charge me almost 70 bucks to play a course that should be valued in the low 40's?? The course was not particularly outstanding. The greens were very bumpy and some of them had lots of green sand thrown on them. The fairways were VERY thin and in some cases you had to find grass to place your ball on. Traps and tee boxes were fine. I am thankful for my buddy to have invited me to play with him but I wish I knew what I was getting into because I would have said NO to the price vs the condition. With that said I will say that the people were very friendly, the course layout is nice and it has a nice mix of easy holes to challenging holes. The course itself is short (6200yds from the tips) but it was built for seniors so it wasn't a shock. It is truly set up for the residents who play the same course everyday and like the comfort of that. I would return if the price was better or the course was pristine but as it sits now I would prefer to be invited to a different course.

Disappointment

This is generally a very nice course but at this point in time it is in very rough shape. Its not the worse course around but the greens are the worst greens in MY rotation of courses. I had heard that the greens were bad so I called ahead and asked about the situation. I was told that the greens were discolored but they were running true. The greens are definitely discolored but they are also bumpy and patchy. We started on the back nine and right away you could tell that this was not the course I have come to love. The fairways are thin and the greens were horrible. It only got worse on the front nine. The course condition is one thing but charging $50 to play this course is what really bothered me. I get that they aren't hurting for business right now with the snowbirds still in town but I'm not gonna be in any hurry to play this course again since I feel like I got overcharged for a course in poor condition. There are plenty of courses around that are in much better condition and charging significantly less. When this course is in its prime condition it is one of the best around and I would wholeheartedly recommend it but I would and will stay away from this course for the next several months.

It was sad to play this course

Discovered this course many years ago when it first opened. It was what I would call my “home” course for many years and I am not a resident inside the development. Well, that’s where the problem starts. If you were not a resident the staff would treat you rudely and aggressively. Members weren’t much better but the course was generally in excellent shape. These attitudes have scared away the outside clientele over the past couple of years and the lack of revenue shows in the course. I refused to play this course for the past year and on a whim a buddy and I decided to get in an afternoon 18 on a Friday. Big mistake! Course was in terrible condition! Greens were mostly sand and sand traps were mostly green. Nothing good to say about this course...fairways, tee boxes and greens were all pathetic. It made me sad to play this course and I had to tell my buddy over and over about what this course USE to look like. I won’t be back and I would tell any “real” golfer to stay away. Maybe someday they will get it figured out and I will be happy to eat my words!

Wet and matted

Most parts of the year this course is one of the better courses in this area. I normally rave about this course and this review is not to criticize but to inform fellow golfers. I would say the current condition of the course is not the fault of the staff but more the time of the year and the odd amount of rain we have had this winter. To put it in short form the course is very wet and very matted down due to the amount of traffic that it is seeing. With the snowbirds down here it is gonna receive much more foot and cart traffic. Plenty of rain makes this condition worse. On top of that the cold weather makes it a perfect storm. The greens are in pretty bad condition. It is not unplayable by any means it is just not in that typical StoneCreek condition. Considering that all the courses I play are in similar conditions I can't complain but I will say that we got an early morning discount of $37 but after 8am it turns into $45 which is a bit high for the current condition. I look forward to returning to this course in a couple of months.

Fairly Priced

First off we played Champions to Heritage and the Heritage course was in SLIGHTLY better condition than Champions. Now, with that said...
We received 7 inches of heavy rain the Friday before the Sunday that we played this course. It was obvious the "damage" that the rain had done to the greens. The greens looked like the rain had washed away parts of the putting surface. They were not unplayable by any means but they did have bare spots and were quite bumpy. The sand traps were either flooded or un touched by the grounds crew and I DO NOT blame them for this. The tee boxes were in good condition. We played 18 holes in a cart on Sunday morning for $25 and this was a fair price considering the condition of the course. I have played this course many times and I hope that with the right attention to the right areas they will use this wet weather as an opportunity to improve the greens. Fairways were good with plenty of grass to hit off of. I would rec this course at this price right now with the hope that it improves.

Very Nice Course

So, as the title states this is a “very nice course”. It is not pristine but the layout and design is the best in the area. The course was not pure green everywhere but it played with only a few minor issues. The greens are super fast and challenging. The course is very well manicured. Tee boxes are cut perfect and sand traps maintained. The course overall is a challenge.
I would have no problem going back at the price it is currently at. This course in known to get into the $60-$65 range and in the condition it’s in right now...that is way too high. We paid $40 and that is completely fair. Our pace of play was excellent. We started right at 8am and played a great pace. Right at 4 hours. I will say this, the later you go the more backed up it gets. When we made the turn there was a line at #1. There was a bev cart (it was Sunday) and we saw her a number of times. There were zero rangers and the staff seemed to be a bit...”unmotivated”. I would hate to see this course slide because of a lack of management.

Looking for Elevation

Of all the courses I have played in the Ocala area (which is most of them) this golf course has the most extreme elevation changes. It is a very challenging layout and the elevation changes make it a lot of fun to play. It is in very nice shape as of right now. My dad and I went out Thanksgiving Morning and there were only a couple groups out at 7:30am so the pace of play was excellent. The price point is a huge value. The greens are average speed to slow. The bunkers are not maintained all that great but there wasn’t any grass growing in them. They just aren’t raked very diligently. No beverage cart and no rangers but I don’t have an issue with any of that. The driving range is right next to the 1st Tee box which you don’t see very often but it allows you to hit 10-12 balls real quick just to loosen up.
The one criticism I will give is that this course tends to be very wet most of the year. This is due to the underlying clay of the land. It’s only a significant issue when there has been recent rrains storms. That being said, you won’t get away with hitting the ground before the ball too often.
This course is one of the nicer courses in the area and I give it a high recommendation !

Love this course

Yep. Great course. If you are familiar with Candler (the course next door) then you can think of Stonecreek as the more affordable Candler. It is very close to being as nice but $20 cheaper. You won’t find a thin lie anywhere on this course and that makes for fun golf. Chipping is a pleasure when you are hitting off of nice thick grass. The rough can penalize you but won’t send you to jail. The greens are quick but they are on the flatter side and hold a line really well. They were running a special $40= 18 w/ cart plus a small bucket and a drink afterwards. That makes for a great Sunday. Staff is super nice.
The only complaint I have is The Members!! I find it crazy that rude members still exist. Don’t they know that it is the “outsiders” that keep a golf course going. If you don’t believe that then go visit Stone Crest or Summerglenn. These two course were once top notch until management allowed the rude members to drive away all the outside residents and now both these courses have lost so much money they can’t maintain the course to the conditions that made them great to begin with.
Done with my rant.
Don’t let the member bother you and go enjoy a beautiful golf course with a friendly staff. I know I will.

Great course as always

The first green on the first hole is the nicest putting surface I have ever seen. It looks fake. Now, the rest of the greens are not this perfect (which I don’t understand why) but they are still in very nice shape. The course is green and plush. You are not hitting from a thin lie unless you put yourself there. We go to this course often and always enjoy the challenge and the course. The second hole is a challenging par 5 that requires 3 very good shots to get there. The course is extremely “wet” right now because of all the rain we have had but it’s a catch 22. The only thing I would criticize this course for would be there is no bev cart and they don’t employ course rangers but if you are looking for a nice golf course then this is it. The staff is super friendly as well. The starter Bob is a good guy!

Still Healing

This course is normally in phenomenal shape. Unfortunately on this day the greens were still healing from the aeration that was done a couple of weeks ago. The fairways and the fringe around the greens were beautiful but the putting surface was still beat up. Now, these greens are normally so good they look fake but they have several weeks, maybe even months, before they get back to that status. The sand traps were swamped with water from all the rain but the tee boxes were nice. Overall, one of my favorite courses but the greens still need time to heal. Looking forward to that day!

Getting there

I have played this course throughout the years and have always enjoyed its layout and difficulty. Over the past several years we have stayed away from it because it had started to really go in the toilet. Heard someone say that it was in really good shape so we decided to give it a try. Was pleasantly surprised with the course conditions. We had a very enjoyable day on a challenging golf course. They still have some work to do but I have no problem going back to this course in the hopes that they continue to improve on an already nice golf course. We were told that they brought back the greens keeper from “the old days” and if he keeps up this path then it will return itself to one of the premier courses in Ocala. Looking forward to seeing the course in a couple of weeks!

Enjoyed

We played this course in the middle of March and it was impeccable. This time around it has been worn down a bit. With that being said I would still rec this course and play it again tomorrow. The greens are soft and hold shots but they were rolling super fast. Sunday morning there is nobody on the course until about 10:00/11:00. Got love having the course all to yourself. Course condition is still good but it looks like it has had significant traffic on it over the past 30 days or so. Hopefully with the snowbirds going back they will be able to bring it back to that pristine condition because this is one of my favorite courses around Ocala.

Incredible

First off the greens are in such good shape they look fake. Just an absolute pleasure to golf this course. Sunday morning at 8:00am and we had the whole course to ourselves. This is one of those courses that fills up quickly after church. The course was manicured nicely. If I HAD to nit pick something about this course I would say that they had the grass on the tee boxes a bit long but it didn't interfere with anything.
I would have no problem playing this course week after week. Nice people that work in the pro shop as well.

Hidden Gem

I don't want to tell everyone how great this course is because it is so easy to get an early Tee Time on Sunday morning. I would be doing this course an injustice. My dad and I played this course on a perfect Sunday morning. The golf community here tends to go out around 10/11 am on Sunday mornings so the whole course is basically empty. The greens are like carpet except 2 of them which they are working on and they are still putt-able. The cut of the fairways are very nice and the tee boxes are beautiful. I am a tough customer to please when it comes to paying hard earned money to play golf but this course is worth every penny and then some. At this point in time this course is one of the nicest in the area...if not THE NICEST!!

Nice Course

This is my home course ( meaning it is the closest course to my house). I have always enjoyed playing SummerGlenn. The course has always been in decent to great condition. There are lots of courses in the Ocala area right now that are in poor condition but this is NOT one of them. The greens are good to good PLUS. The layout is very manageable and still challenging. Nice staff (especially John...good man). 10 and 11 will bite you if you don't know how to manage your ball placement si it is a tough start when you start your round on the back nine. Pace of play has never been an issue. I recommend this course very whole heartedly.
