St. Lawrence University Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/28/2018Great fall golf afternoon!
A great value! Beautiful setting, nice greens, excellent walking course, and the staff was way above average for helpfulness and being attentive to our needs. Would love to golf here on a regular basis is I lived in the area.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 02/17/2018Fun day!
I played there 7 or 8 yrs ago and didn’t like. My poor play probably had a lot to do with it. Reluctantly came back with some friends and REALLY enjoyed the round. Only fault I would point out are the sand traps suck. Greens were OK - not great. Nice layout - not long - not exactly “target” golf but you need to hit fairways and to score you often need to be in the place on the fairways. We finished in just over 4 hrs and had a really good time. I’ll be back - great course for the price.
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 01/19/2018Great course
Friendly fairways with challenging greens. Hit it close or risk 3 putting. I always enjoy playing here and the only issue we had was the pace of play on the last 9 late in the day slowed to a death march. Barely finished with 18 played in the dark. It's not always like this - must have been some problems. A ranger on the course occasionally might help. Plan to play this course with some regularity as it's a great value, nice layout, and challenging greens!
Wickenburg Country Club
Played On 12/01/2017Great value
Other reviewers have used the word “rustic” so I was curious what they meant. Fairways and greens were pristine! The yardage book (free! I’ve been hit up for $5 at some spendy courses?) was extremely helpful as there are doglegs & blind shots & some tight fairways. What’s rustic is the cart paths and there aren’t ball washers on envy tee box - not a big deal for me. This was a fun experience and well worth the great price with a friendly & accomodating staff. The greens were very fast and had a lot of undulations and weren’t all that big. It was a difficult course to consistently score well on first time out. I usually shoot in the low to mid 80’s and I had my hands full trying to stay in that range. It’s the kind of course you’ll play better the more you play it - can’t wait to return. My only criticism is that I love to walk and this is NOT a walking course - long carries between some holes and lots of elevations changes. There a few houses but it’s not lined by McMansions and the scenery is beautiful desert. I understand there are some newer, more upscale courses in Wickenburg, and we’ll get around to playing them someday, but this was a fun, challenging, classic old golf course and a GREAT value!
Mountain Shadows Golf Course
Played On 03/17/2017Poor value for the price!
Other reviews were glowing so our foursome's expectations were high. From the minute we drove onto the property they dwindled. Construction everywhere, pro shop was a disaster, dust/dirt/detours, and for $50/person this was very disappointing! Course was interesting and the views were nice, but not spectacular. Tee boxes were top-notch but the greens were terrible for this price - bumpy and slow! And the fringe was gouged - mowed very unevenly.
With these conditions the fair price would have been more like $30 - $35. We walked and it's a very walkable layout with interesting holes - a few blind shots into gimmicky greens but, hey that's golf and a few surprises are OK. The staff tried valiantly but the construction & conditions were unacceptable for that price. We won't be coming back and we won't be recommending this place to anyone else!
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 01/04/2016WOW - great value
We played the older course several times when visiting Phoenix. Always handy either coming or going from Sky Harbor to the west side. The new course is awesome - very well bunkered and somewhat tricky first time out as the bunkers around the green are very decieving. Putting surface was very quick. Routing is pretty much the same but that's where it ends. GPS isn't updated so we had to rely on sight of line devices for distances. Club house wasn't quite finished but this will be a great place to play. Love this course and will come back!
Westbrook Village Golf Club - Lakes Course
Played On 12/28/2015Great afternoon of golf!
We play this course and it's sister course - Vistas - 5 or 6 times every winter. Always enjoyable. Very walkable and we finished in less than 4 hours. This course was renovated last year with new greens, fairways, and irrigation system and it shows. All were in excellent shape. Straight forward layout - no blind shots - what you see is what you get. Very fair with generous landing areas. Stay in the fairway and watch pin placements and you'll have a great round.
Boulder Creek Golf Club - Coyote Run/Eldorado Valley
Played On 2/20/2013Great course.
We played this on a very windy day and felt like we could have been in Scotland or Ireland. Beautiful course! My only criticism was there wasn't a ball-washer on the course. A great value for the money and a course that will only get better with time.
Thank you for playing The Short Course & thank you for putting up with our dust as we finalized the golf shop and resort. The course is interesting and the views are beautiful. Fun for any golfer.
