Brattleboro Country Club
Played On 07/11/2018A Gem
As a member of the Safari Club, a premier traveling golf group from western Mass., I played this fantastic course for the first time. Staff was extremely helpful and Eric the pro was a true professional. We played the gold tees that were only 5400 yards so the rating of difficulty was moderate. If we moved back to the whites at 6000, it would have played with much more difficulty. The greens were true and identical one to another in quality. Many undulations on the greens. Some blind shots depending mostly on where your tee shot ended. Loved the course and will go back again this year.
Shaker Farms Country Club
Played On 07/05/2018Average course with good value
As a member of the Safari Club, western Mass premier golf group, I played Shaker Farms after several years of not playing this course. The conditions have definitely improved since the last time and now I would go back again. The greens were the best of the course. Tee boxes need additional work as well as some of the fairways. But that said, the layout is good and there are some truly challenging holes, especially No 17.
Ellinwood Country Club
Played On 06/27/2018Old New England Course
Playing with the Safari Club, western Mass's premier travel golf club, I had the good fortune of playing this Donald Ross design. With many undulations, mounds and sloping fairways, your always have some difficult lies to contend with. Average in length, the course is a fair challenge and rewards good shots and punishes poor shots. Watch out for hole 15, a 400 yard par 4 with a long and blind second shot to a depressed green. Not a course for walkers.
Cold Spring Country Club
Played On 06/06/2018Simply love this layout
I have played this course 4 times in the last four years with the Safari Club, western Mass's premier travel golf club. Always love it and want to return again each time. Shorter in length than some, the varying elevations more than make up for the shortness. When you are on the course, you rarely see another hole. Conditions were excellent. Has 6 par threes so you have a chance for a lower score. Not a walking course. Well worth the drive to play.
Rolling Meadows Country Club
Played On 05/30/2018Green, Green and More Green
The Safari Club, western Mass's premier travel golf club, played this course in late May. Everywhere you looked, it was green. A well manicured course, you paid the price if you were not in the fairway because of the green conditions. The greens a truly rolling and make for fun putts. The course is well care for and the two nines are quite different in style. Feels like two different 9 hole courses.
Quail Hollow Country Club
Played On 09/13/2017A Hidden Special Place
Quail Hollow is a fun course with a lot of character. Along with about 90 other Safarians from the Safari Club, we were challenged with this layout. Huge elevation differences with only 4 holes entirely on the level. Greens were in perfect shape, but from the fairways or tees, it was difficult to see the severe slopes of the greens. Putting was a true challenge with the sloping greens. Conditions were very good..Althought the length was shorter than most courses, longer hitters would still love this course. I will be back again
Gillette Ridge
Played On 08/30/2017A real but fair challenge.
Along with over 100 other Safari Club members, we played Gillette Ridge on a perfect day. The layout was a real challenge with very large greens, layups off the tee required on several holes, target golf on some holes and carries over water to the greens. But it was not only beautiful. The course conditions were perfect. The challenge made it fun and the staff were perfect to deal with. Will be going back in the fall during foliage season when the beauty will only be better.
Hermitage Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2017Vermont Beauty
As part of the Safari Club, more than 130 golfers from southern New England played this pristine beauty in southern Vermont. The two nines are quite different with the front holes a bit more open and able to see adjoining holes. Each hole on the back nine was by itself. Lush green from ample spring rains created little roll of the ball. Fairways were very narrow and required great accuracy to stay out of the rough. Greens were in great shape and consistent for all 18. Lots of elevation changes, especially on scenic hole 11. Can't wait to go back again next year. Worth the drive to play this spectacular course.
Crumpin-Fox Club
Played On 05/17/2017A true test of skills
If you want a true test of your skills, go to Crumpin Fox. As a member of the Safari Club, I had the pleasure of playing the Fox for about my 6th time. Each time it is a real challenge. Many holes are difficult to hit the greens in regulation without good drives strategically located. The conditions were great and many holes have had trees removed to allow more sunlight in to enhance the grass conditions. This course is worth a drive from anywhere to play.
Ellinwood Country Club
Played On 06/29/2016A gem worth the drive!
Played this rather hidden course with the Safari Club, a group of over 100+ golfers that are rather particular about where we play. This course has many blind shots which makes the game very interesting. Very few level lies and long par 3s from the blue tees. A mix of Donald Ross (original 9) and Geofrrey Cornish, the course is quite a challenge and very fun to play. Will go back again and again. Staff was wonderful to our group. Not a stuffy country club feeling, just a welcoming and comfortable feel
Red Tail Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2015Would be hard to beat this course!
Our Safari Club golf group scored a major deal when we got to play this outstanding course. With many doglegs, significant elevation changes from tee to green, and perfect conditions, this course rates as a bucket list course as it is that good. Each hole seems isolated from others with the scenery exceptional. While the layout is fair and without gimmicks, the course plays quite difficult.
Crestview Country Club
Played On 10/13/2015Superb parkland layout
It was indeed fortunate that our Safari Club golf group got to play this superb course. With tight fairways and rather heavy rough, balls in play were a key to scoring. All greens were identical and in excellent shape without ball marks or other imperfections. Would go back again in a heartbeat!
