Glengarry Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/6/2013Sound as an Irish Pound!!!
Admittedly without a GPS or directions, getting here would be a bit difficult, but it doesn't take away from the beauty of this course.
The front and back 9 start adjacent to one another, and the first hole is a wide open par 4 (just as the 10th is). The challenges vary from narrow fairways and approaches, to the temptation to cut a dog leg, to driving a short par 4.
The slope for the whites (where I played) is a 123, but don't let it deter you. This course is excellent for working on all facets of your game. Most of the greens were nice and big, and this particular day, pin placement was not too sadistic (thank you by the way to the groundskeepers for that), and the pins have the red/white/blue flags for front/middle/back pin placements, and the 200, 150, & 100 yard markers are all in the center of the fairways.
I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a good course to play, this is the one. It's about a 45 minute drive East of Ottawa, and I drove about a hour & 15-20 minutes to play here.

This was the best course I've played in the courses I've played in Ontario and Quebec yet. This is also the most difficult course I have played.
The course came highly recommended by others from the area that golf, and it truly did not disappoint. From the 1st tee to a photogenic 18th tee, this course is absolutely phenomenal. There is truly not a single negative I can find with this course. The tee boxes all have repair kits, the greens are immaculately well kept, and the fairways are exceptional. The rough, where I found myself plenty during my round, is just that. Rough.
With the change in Autumn and the leaves turning, this is the best time to play. The weather was magnificent today, and the scenery is unparalleled.
All of the staff I encountered and talked with today were extremely cordial and professional, capping off a perfect day of golf
I will without a doubt recommend this course to anyone and everyone I talk with, it was well worth the 1 hour drive to get there.
Calabogie Highlands Golf Club - General's Course
Played On 9/7/2013Excellent Course Overall
Most of the tee boxes on the front do not have divot repair kits, or this would be 5 stars. they do get a ton of work.
there is a 18 hole and 9 hole course here. It's the same owners as the Pakenham golf course, but I think this is more of a challenge. It is tucked away, but well worth the 1+ hour trip (from Kanata) to play. One of the better courses I've seen in this area since playing in Ottawa.
Pakenham Highlands Golf Club - Canyon/Island
Played On 8/31/2013Great course, great area!
3 9 hole courses, all great, varying difficulty with each hole, the terrain has hazards like high rough, running water, lake hazards, I highly recommend the course.
Playing 18, 2 of the 3 courses combined have a slope and course rating if you want to establish or improve your handicap.
Timber Run Golf and Country Club
Played On 8/18/2013Challenging 18 hole Walk
It's between 3.5 & 4 hours walking.. in a golf cart, probably closer to 3...
The back 9 is much more up and down than the front... But the scenery is gorgeous, On a sunny day, there's not much better I've played than this.
The tee boxes get a good bit of work, if we had tee box repair kits to fill in divots I think this would be a tremendous difference. The clubhouse is a large-sized log cabin house, and just adds to the atmosphere. I highly recommend!!
Capital Golf Club
Played On 8/17/2013Well to do to tune up your short/medium game
Don't bring the whole bag, just your irons and wedges. The longest hole is 210 yards, give or take... The course is kept up well enough, and has a driving range at the front (the left side is blocked with a mesh net to prevent you hitting onto 18, and vice versa), and a large size putting area and chipping area too. opening to the first tee is a beautiful sight indeed. The tee boxes get some work, and the crew fixes them when they can... But all in all a good course, I've already played on 2 separate weekends and will most likely go back.
Amberwood Village Golf and Country Club
Played On 8/10/2013Awesome Day Overall
The course needs maintenance ONLY at the tee boxes. They get a ton of work and you can tell this in the afternoon. If they had the divot repair boxes at each tee box this would be one of the best maintained courses overall, absolutely.
There aren't a lot of hazards but the holes do run in parallel one after another, so you're bound to get some cross traffic during the peak periods (I played on a Saturday afternoon).
I would definitely return, and just may this weekend.
