Caernarfon Golf Club
Played On 09/19/2022Great track if in the area
Played here while on holiday for the week. Got the round for 21 quid which I thought was brilliant price for the course. Great layout and condition of the course was brilliant. Played on a dry, calm day. Course is a decent yardage with some tough par 3’s that could ruin in a scorecard if playing in a club medal. Green we’re true however there were a few questionable pin placement that made 2 putting feel as hard as an up and down from 30 yards away. We made sure we tee’d off on our time to make sure we weren’t up the group in front however the group behind us balls weren’t far away from us when walking to the green causing them to be behind us most of the round. If they’d waited and tee’d off at their time it would have been a faster round for them but then again that wasn’t our problem. Members seemed friendly however everyone seemed to speak in Welsh which you would expect but they still acknowledge us when letting us play through or finding balls. Clubhouse wasn’t open due to it being the queens funeral so couldn’t really review food and drink however completely understandable. Overall thought this was a really nice course with brilliant views and would definitely play again next time in the area.
Telford Hotel & Golf Resort
Played On 09/10/2022Good knock
Played here as a 2 ball for 30 quid and was not disappointed. Relatively wide fairways with big greens. Greens were true and bunkers were good. Would definitely recommend playing this course again and we were lucky to have good weather and minimal wind. Course was more of a stay and play kinda set up with a few society seen on the course and on the practise round. Bar was very nice too but just a little pricey. Overall would play this course again easily
Dukinfield Golf Club
Played On 08/31/2022Good but You’l need a trolly
Played for 20 quid a round which was great value for money. Two very different 9 holes with the first 9 being very hilly and narrow and the back 9 being a lot more open and wider. Couple of tees on the front 9 which were very tough with netting to the right of the tee meaning if you can’t play a fade your gonna have trouble getting it in the fairway with enough distance to get the green with the 2nd shot. Greens were very good and not too fast and fairways in good condition. We played with with a strong wind which made the course a lot harder to play but overall a decent knock for a midweek game. Would recommend
Northop Golf Club
Played On 05/28/2022Slow play but good course
Played on a weekend in the afternoon with good weather. Course layout was good with some holes not needing the driver from the tee. Greens were in really good condition but tee boxes were average. Relatively flat course with interesting holes. The only issue we had was a member and their young child had tee’d off right behind us which in turn we let them through causing extremely slow play. There was a society in front of them however if they’d not jumped on right behind us we would have kept up nicely with the society in front. Guessing they were members that hadn’t booked a tee time and thought they’d slip in but at one point there were 2 groups on the tee behind us. Made the day very slow and tarnished the round however I would go back and play the course as this can happen at most places. All in all would recommend a round here
Styal Golf Club - 18-hole Course
Played On 05/05/2021My kind of course
First time playing the course and was exactly what I expected. Flattest course I’ve played with open fairways and well kept greens. Very forgiving course and was in good condition after the rain we’d had over last couple of days. Also have a decent driving range on site and what appeared to be a nice clubhouse from the little bit we saw with Covid restrictions. Definitely be coming back here soon
Cannock Park Golf Course
Played On 04/11/2021What you expect
Decent 18 hole lay out with some tricky tee shots. For a municipal course it was impressive however the greens were poor and bobbly. Not the worst I’ve played but couldn’t read a put all day. The only other down side was that there were the people walking around the course throughout the day with paths leading around and through. Couple of times you would have a shot at the green and there would be someone walking towards you to the right of the fairway... thin it right and you’ve killed someone.
Overall tho good municipal course however if they could just get the greens in better shape it would be a so much better
Holyhead Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2020Visited Holyhead golf course while on a weeks holiday in Anglesey. Stunning course with great views. The greens were some of the best I had seen and with the wet weather we have had there were only a few boggy areas which were barely noticeable. Course layout itself was a challenge and a few holes need a straight tee shot to avoid any danger. The 10th also needs your tee shot to be left side of the marker in order to have a shot at the green. Members very friendly but the only let down was when I was in the pro shop waiting to sign in, the gentlemen behind the counter was on the phone to a friend and made me wait until he’d finished his conversation before serving me. Other then that I would highly recommend the course and will be coming back again
Vicars Cross Golf Club
Played On 08/26/2019Managed to get a hot deal for 25 pound a round at Vicars Cross. Never played the course before but heard good things and it didn’t disappoint at all. Staff really friendly and before the round had a full English which was very reasonably priced. Fairways, greens, tees the lot, in perfect condition. Was quiet being a bank holiday Monday so at some points felt like we had the course to ourselves. Couldn’t really fault the place other then only being one par 3 on the front 9 but it made up for it on the back 9. Great finishing hole also and will definitely being coming back. Very happy we got to play it in the summer.
Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa - Arderne Course
Played On 08/25/2019Decided to play the Arderne course with it being a short course and having a break from the driver. First impressions it seemed forgiving and fun until you hit a shot in the rough and couldn’t find your ball. Fairways were long and some of the greens were poor. If they spent a little more time maintaining the course I believe it would be worth a lot more then 12.50 a round. I get that there trying to make the course more challenging With making it imperative your in the fairway but when your losing more balls on a 4500 yard odd course then you are on a 6700 championship course, it starts to grate. Also wasn’t the easiest course to find once your in the grounds as no sign posts to direct you. Not bad for the money but I wouldn’t make my way down just for that course alone, however if your playing the Prem or the Champ course it may be worth doing 9 holes on the Arderne for a warm up.
Vale Royal Abbey
Played On 08/17/2019On arriving at Vale royal we was told by the pro that there was a comp on called the green keepers revenge and that he was going out in front and would pick up the hoops and other props on his way round so that they didn’t get in the way of our game. He also said he couldn’t do anything about the tractor, however at this time I presumed he meant a tractor being parked some where to the side of the fairway. As we got round to the 13th we found the tractor which was parked directly in front of the pin just off the green. We had no shot in at all and it ruined (made worse) everyone’s score card. On top of this the pin positions were in ridiculous places, one being I tiny bit off the green. On the 17th it felt a little like crazy golf as you were putting past the hole for it to come back down the slope to where it started. I understand there was a fun comp on for the members however they should have let us know this before we booked the round. Other then this it was a nice course and very well kept. Greens were brilliant however we did find we got lost a couple of times moving from holes. A map on the back of the scorecard would have been helpful. I would come back again however would probably e-mail a head to make sure you don’t have to contend with a tractor.
Marple Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2019First time played and not disappointed. Course was in brilliant condition and loved that a driver was not always needed on more then half of the holes. Greens were some of the best I’ve seen and with rain the night before stopped them from flying past the hole at lighting speed. Fairways were perfect and rough was not excessive. Only negatives of the day were that a two ball clearly jumped in front and slowed the game down for the first 9 and some of the holes felt bunched together so found we had a fair few balls flying past our heads from other groups. Other then that would recommend this course to all levels. We will be coming back.
Upton by Chester Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2019Second time we’ve played this course and once again did not disappoint. Great layout with a decent par 3 to start the round with. Greens were in perfect condition and very challenging to read. Good par 4 finishing hole also that you need a straight drive through the trees followed by a green directly outside the clubhouse. Only let down of the day was not being able to get food after the round due to a comp presentation that was being set up but you can’t blame the club for that. Will certainly be coming back again.
Runcorn Golf Club
Played On 05/06/2019Decent
Nice flat course that is a challenge for all golfers. Had a little issue with the pro shop not being open before our tee time which meant Going into the office of the club house to be given a score card. Other then that staff very friendly and also members we saw on the course. Green we’re in very good condition however fairway was a little long. Couldn’t work out how the 17th hole was not at least an index 2 however all in all a very good course.
We will be coming back.
