Bayou Oaks City Park North Course
Played On 04/21/2018Only if you can't afford someplace else.
I'm a typical budget-conscious muni golfer who's seen a lot of cheaper courses, and this may be one of the worst. The greens were so sandy, rough and sloooooooooow that a couple of them should have had bunker rakes next to them. The bunkers on the other hand had so little sand that it was best to play a clean-contact pitch out of them. On the plus side, the weather was great, and I got paired up with a couple local girls who were a real pleasure to play with. The carts are surprisingly nice, too, complete with GPS.

I played this course on a December morning following a couple days of heavy rain. It was so wet they didn't open the driving range. There was standing water in many of the bunkers. I was thinking I had been foolish to book and pay for my tee time in advance to get the "Hot Deal". The bright side was that I practically had the entire course to myself... and it turned out the course was in very good shape, It was remarkable.
Thanks to the unusual circumstances of playing virtually alone at such a low price, I had a very pleasant time, and I'd play there again. I can't imagine paying the normal $150 non-resident rate though.

There was a huge rainstorm the day before, so I expected a mess. It turned out much better than that. There was deep standing water in the bunkers and some spots on the cart path, but I didn't come across any on the course. A huge willow tree had come down on one fairway, but it really just made the tee shot a little more interesting. I expect it'll take a lot of work to get the bunkers back in shape.
I probably wouldn't recommend this course at the full rate, but Golf Now got us $30, cart included., and teeing off at the same time as the Seahawks kickoff meant the course was relatively open. We finished in 4:10. It was definitely worth every penny.

Given its reputation and greens fees that are 40% higher than my home course, I was really looking forward to finally playing this course. My first disappointment was seeing the practice range was off of mats. The range balls were the saddest collection I've seen anywhere. They weren't just bald and worn--some had big chunks chewed out of them. Of course, I didn't go for the range experience, but it was an indicator of what was ahead. The fairways were horrible. I understand the issues with the weather this year and the need to conserve water, but this course as compared to others is doing a terrible job of managing with the challenges. I swear to god, as I drove out, mid--afternoon--there was irrigation running on a section of grass next to the road, nowhere near the course itself! The greens were in sub-par condition, too, with the worst being the par three on the back nine fronted by a dried up water hazard. It literally reeked! We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
