Westbrook Village Golf Club - Lakes Course
Played On 08/23/2023Nice experience
This is a nice golf course, very playable. Nothing fancy, but well maintained and well managed. It is pleasant to look at and not intimidating. No long carries, pretty simple approaches to the green (except for 18, which is a really nice design with a water carry.)
Our only on-course complaint is that we got behind a foursome that was VERY slow. We finally decided to skip a hole to pass them when, on a par 3, they were still on the green when the foursome behind us pulled up. Went forward and the three holes that we could see had no one on playing. No marshal ever showed up during our round that we could see. This is a bad luck, not necessarily something that I would expect to find routinely.
After our round, we decided to go inside for lunch. They were pretty busy, lots of “locals” enjoying a beverage or lunch. Nice menu, modern comfort food, appealing both to the eye and the palate. Service was very slow.

This is a nice course. The back nine is a bit more challenging and has better scenery. Overall course conditioning was not the best, but for the money, it was playable and did not adversely affect the play. Tee areas need to be improved. Lots of divots and they were not seeded. All the tees seem to be mounded in the middle. They really need to be redone. Bunkers were generally playable. Pace of play was just under 5 hours. We waited a lot, but not for longe times except at the turn. Hot dogs were great!!

In a sound bite, if one doesn't love playing this course on a sunny day, then one should take up watching the news or some other depressing pastime! It simply has great entertainment value. Visually, it looks harder than it is. The fairways are inviting from the tee with clearly defined targets. The greens are nicely sized, and misses generally stay about where you miss them instead of bounding off into some netherland that costs a couple of strokes, if not a ball. And the views from several,of the holes are simply Lake Tahoe beautiful. If you are in the Lake Tahoe area, do yourself a favor and play this course.

I enjoyed playing this course. To be honest, my review may be a little more critical because I am used to playing a VERY well maintained and manicured Club track, but for a public course, this was about average. Far better than many munis I've played, and for the price, pretty playable.
Yes, bunkers are a little shallow,of sand. But come on...they are hazards! I played from the back tees, and there are some very visually and actually challenging shots from the tee. Elevation changes on the front nine can get into your head as well.
The back nine opens up and is a little flatter. The greens are approachable and have some pretty significant slopes on them. They would be more than exciting if they mowed them even to a 9 or 10 stomp, but I would estimate them at about 8. A little too slow for my taste.
I drove over from South Lake Tahoe. If you want a break from $150 greens fees, this is a drive worth the trip, but watch the weather...it can get very windy.

Apparently a private mini tourney arrived one hour late so the moved all the subsequent tee times...loaded the course behind a tourney! Five and a half hour round. Many people left before finishing. Took away from an otherwise decent muni course experience.
Greens were smooth but rather slow. Fairways in decent shape. Sure, it's a resort area and the price is a little lower than the bigger name courses, but it's probably worth paying more and playing the other courses if you can afford it. Too bad, because the course itself is a decent, if unremarkable, layout.

Holes not affected by last summer's washout were above average for a municipal course. Staff, and the overall experience would get a higher rating. But be forewarned that about half the holes play in, over, or through mud. This is in areas un-repaired since early last summer. There appeared to be some reseeding going on, but you might want to check.
