Great course but may be challenging for some

I am a senior golfer whose tee shots no longer travel 200 yards, and will write my review from that perspective. This newly opened course is in excellent condition. Greens and fairways are almost perfect. The course layout is interesting and fair but may be very challenging for some, such as seniors like me. Some forced carries over water and huge sand traps directly in front of pin placements. If you need to use your hybrids or fairway woods to carry 150 yards, you will probably have to lay up or play around the hazards on several holes. The greens also are very fast, and you can count on multiple 3-putt holes, at least until you get accustomed to them. If you are an average or better-than-average golfer, you will enjoy this course. You can also enjoy it if you are a senior golfer or short hitter. Just be ready to play around some of the hazards! One other point to note is that the course does not yet have a clubhouse or parking lot. However, there was a beverage and snack cart on the course that regularly checked in on my needs.

Pleasant course, good value

This is a nice course with very favorable prices. Conditions were only fair on the day I played, with lots of standing water and muddy patches, due to recent heavy rains. (This is a chronic problem for this relatively "low lying course," and should be considered when scheduling a round there after heavy rains.) However, conditions generally are good during normal weather patterns. The staff are friendly and accommodating.

Although the course might be relatively short for scratch golfers, it is moderately challenging and playable for golfers of "average" ability. The only exception is #10. The landing areas on that hole simply are too narrow and tightly bordered by water on one side and large trees on the other for the average player (< 250 yard drives). Long hitters can just out-drive the treed area, but average players might have to tee off with an iron and settle for a 3-shot trip to the green on this par-4 hole. (Or hit a driver anyway, and watch their ball disappear into the bordering swamp on one side or settle behind large trees on the other!) It would be nice if this hole could somehow be redesigned to make it a more playable par-4 hole for players of average ability.

In summary, I like the course and will play there regularly in the future. Maybe I will just keep my driver in my bag and drop a ball in the "target area" on #10!

Nice course, good value, mowing problems

Overall, I would give this course a 4-star rating, but the groundskeeping crew needs some instruction. We were "paired up" for something like 4-5 consecutive holes with a large and very noisy mower. The operator was oblivious to our presence and refused to stop or even slow down when we were playing, either along the fairways or around the green. In one case, he popped out from behind some bushes and drove directly across the front of the green while my ball was in the air.

I also wonder why groundskeepers do not mow the holes in the opposite order from that in which the players are playing the holes. That way, a single playing group would not be paired up with them hole after hole after hole.

Nice course, good value, score card problems

This is a nice course and a good value for the money. Fairly open with good landing areas but lots of sand to be found along the way. The greens had been recently sanded so they were not a fair test on the day that we played. However, they looked like they would be decent after the sand was gone. The only problem we had was determining distances to the pin. This was our first visit to the course and the yardages on the score card did not match those posted at the tee box. As well, the fairway markers were sometimes difficult to locate. No slopes or ratings were indicated on the score cards, making it complicated for a senior like me to decide which tees to play. A yardage book would have been very useful but they did not offer one. If the course updates these items it will make the course that much more enjoyable.

Nice course in a pleasant rural environment.

This is a very pleasant course if you like open spaces with few trees (as I do). It offers decent challenges with only one potentially "punishing" hole (#18). Scratch players might not find it up to their liking, but good average players will enjoy it. We were not pushed or slowed down by other players. The staff was friendly, and the rates were very favorable. We played after heavy rains had flooded the course a few days earlier, but the course was still in good shape. Only one hole was shortened due to water damage around the tee box. I drive about an hour to play this course several times a year and will continue to do so in the future.

Course has good features but an aggressive ranger spoiled our fun.

This is a nice course with a good mix of open driving areas and challenging approach shots. Bring extra balls and a good sand wedge! The greens were in OK but not exceptionally good shape. They also have subtle undulations that are challenging to read. I left a lot of mis-read putts out there.

The clubhouse staff and starter were cordial and polite. However, after the 4th hole, a ranger drove up and coldly reminded us that a gap had opened between us and the group in front of us and that we were going to have to speed up our play. He then just sped away to the next hole. I thought we were playing at reasonable speed, but we tried anyway to close the gap anyway. We gave up after a few holes. The group in front of our foursome of average players turned out to be a threesome of better players who must have been late for a lunch date, because they continued to pull away. It was at this point that I checked my watch and the recommended playing time on the score card and learned that we were, if anything, ahead of schedule, not behind as insinuated by the ranger.

Meanwhile, we had rushed through several holes hurrying between shots, not reading putts, etc., trying to close the "gap." This was not fun and it showed in our scores. We eventually finished in under four hours at our normal pace of play (3:50, to be exact), well ahead of the group behind us.

The ranger had a copy of the starter's schedule and should have known that we were playing at the recommended pace. This was already relatively fast for a course of this difficulty. We should not have been prodded to play "race track golf" just to keep up with a speeding group of better players in front of us. Hopefully, this course (and others) will review their policies regarding a reasonably pace of play. The existence of gaps does not prove "slow play." As well, we did not drive hundreds of miles and spend hundreds of dollars for a vacation to play "race-track golf." If you are looking for high-speed play, this might be a good course for you. But, at the present time, I am hesitant to recommend it to visitors who just want to enjoy the course and play at a reasonable pace.
