Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 06/25/2016Upkeep was impressive for summer
One of my biggest concerns in picking a course to golf during these summer months is the conditions. It always sucks to pay the money to play on concrete, essentially. Let me say that other than just a couple dry spots, I felt this course was very well maintained for it being summer.
Also, there is a good many sand traps and some beautiful layouts with water on the back nine.
I would definitely recommend and I will be back.
Encanto Nine Golf Course
Played On 01/30/2016Well maintained course to refine your game
It's an excellent course for beginners or those looking to work on their short game. There are three Par 4's that I used my driver on, so you get some work with your big clubs as well, which makes this an excellent course to learn and practice on.
It's a straight approach on most greens, but the greens themselves are not all straight putts. Secondly, the greens are in excellent condition.
For $11 and still trying to refine my game, this course is perfect.
One Note: GolfNow's directions send you to the pro shop of the big course. The Encanto 9 is off Encanto Rd. around the corner from the big course's pro shop.
Villa de Paz Golf Course
Played On 10/17/2015Need course rangers
I was looking for a course that was in good condition for this time of year and where I would routinely grab for my driver on each hole.
The course was in fair condition. The fairways were a bit long. Sometimes hard to differentiate between the rough and fairway in some areas. Greens were moderately challenging for me (first year really getting into golf), so that was nice.
My issue was the pace of play.
I practiced on the putting green awaiting my 12:07 tee time. I'm not sure when these other guys' tee time was, but they pulled up their cart and teed off at noon. There was no ranger operating the start times.
I didn't care much, teed off shortly after, and finished the par 4 to see they were teeing up on the next hole, a par 3. I hoped they would eventually let me play through.
Still after six holes, no offer was made and they instead combined with two others. Maybe I'm too kind, but I didn't think it was courteous for me to ask if I could play through.
I had paid for 18, but this foursome ahead of me got stuck behind another foursome to start the 10th. I was hoping to play all 18 in about 3 hours, but I reached the three-hour mark after the nine holes.
Because I had other things to do on Saturday, I packed up and left. My round was going poorly anyhow, but it's hard to find a rhythm when you're waiting so long before each shot.
The course is 30 miles away from me and I am only able to golf on the weekends, so I probably will not come back.
Royal Palms Golf Course
Played On 10/03/2015Great little course in Oct.
Excellent course and will definitely be coming back.
Where this course scores points for me is the condition of the course in October. I searched course reviews the day before at multiple courses because I hate hitting off dirt fairways an entire round, which is easy to do in October in AZ. This course was perfect!
Nice, green fairways and the bunkers were thick (not concrete). The greens were overall in great condition. Just slightly bare in a couple places, which I'm fine with for the price of the course.
You absolutely get your money's worth. It is a fairly easy course. The pace of play is a bit slow because of all the beginning golfers on the course, but I will definitely be back...possibly next weekend.
Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills
Played On 09/25/2015Nice small course, bad time of year
Some of the holes and fairways are tightly packed together, so be alert.
It's a good course to practice your irons on. You will need your driver for a couple holes.
Only problem is the course is dead in September. I've driven by the course before to know how beautiful its green grass normally is, but it's all dead in September.
The rate was cheap and I got some good practice in, however.
Aguila Nine Golf Course
Played On 08/01/2015Great Everything
This was my second time playing this course, but my wife's first time. It's a great course for people who are looking to perfect their game. Everything from the staff to the greens is on par (Pun intended).
My wife is just learning how to play golf and was not intimidated by the course, yet the course still gives my short game great practice. The approach and lay of the greens are all unique.
Takes about an hour to walk the course.
My wife and I are already counting down to our next visit to the course.
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're delighted you enjoyed your round. Please book another round with us soon, and thanks for choosing Aguila Nine Golf Course!
Desert Sands Golf Course
Played On 07/10/2015Better courses out there for the same price
This course needs extensive updating. Patio furniture is from the 70s. The staff will make sure you get started, but not necessarily friendly. I had to find the cart guy to give him my ticket, and then was ignored by two guys talking sports when I returned.
I really don't care to be treated like royalty, but the staff is much better at other courses that charge the same rate.
The course is the bigger issue. The fairway has multiple dead spots of grass where you're hitting off the solid ground. Then in other areas the fairway grass hasn't been cut in weeks.
We chose this course because of the challenging greens. The greens are all built on a dome, so yes they aren't straight line putts, but 18 domed holes??
Go to another course for the same rate.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2015Second time was just as good as the first
Hard to imagine you'd find a better course for $12.
The staff is always extremely nice here. The cart guys clean your clubs following a round and are always very communicative. Overall, you are treated like you are playing on a much pricier course.
The course itself is well laid out. Most of the greens have nearby bunkers--and some bunkers are rather deep at that. Bunkers have loose sand in them and are not concrete, which again is a huge plus for golfing in an Arizona summer at a course that doesn't break your pocket.
Could easily see paying more than $10-12 to play this course.
