Sky Mountain Golf Course
Played On 10/30/2017views and golf outstanding.
Despite the fact of a few blind shots, this course was fun to play and provided some challenges. The front nine was more stop and look at scenery than actually playing the shot..lol
The back nine was quite basic until you get to 17..
Would play this again if in the area.
Palms Golf Club
Played On 10/27/2017Good Choice
When on a mini-vacation and trying to decide on courses , I base a lot of decisions on what reviews I can find. I am sure glad I chose this course.
I don't see a whole lot of elevation change back home and this provided some great views and fun shots to try and accomplish. After a very good front nine, the back 9 was a joy to play. While the score was not very good, I would come back to this area in a heartbeat to play not just this course, but maybe try others in the area.
Ka'anapali Kai
Played On 07/20/2017Expected more
I was just expecting more for the money as this was my other choice for my 2 days of playing golf in Maui. Earlier in the week, it was Wailea Emerald and there is no comparison between the two.
From the time you arrived here, it seemed like you were on your own to kinda figure it out. The only friendly member that we came in contact with was the pro shop staff. Other than that, range person and starter could have been a little more friendly. There a big contingent of locals teeing off on Royal and most of their focus was on them.
We were able to start a little earlier than our tee time , but our cart was really hesitant on the first hole, but finally kicked in and kept us going the rest of the round.
The course itself, is quite friendly with wide fairways. A few good views, greens protected by traps. The greens were inconsistent with speed of the putts.
Once we passed the twosome ahead of us, we played in 3 hours, so pace of play was fantastic.
After we finished the round, at 230.. not a sole around to assist with clubs or anything and at a resort course, that is expected.
Wailea Golf Club - Emerald Course
Played On 07/17/2017Worth the money
Pretty hesitant about the cost of playing this course, but the Mrs. said go for it as it is once in a lifetime for us.Well, I am certainly glad we did. From the time we set foot on site, to the time we left, we couldn't ask for a better experience.
The course is ideal for an average golfer, fairways are wide and very friendly for women golfers. Plenty of challenges for your to conquer as you make your way around.
Pro shop was helpful, the starter guided us to where to go for hitting range balls and then advice about the course that you need to know before starting.
Plenty of picture taking moments as you wait on the group ahead of you to finish their hole.
To top that off, on this particular warm day, cold wet towels was waiting on you when you finished your round.
This was a great experience and the Mrs. really like the course as she came within 6 inches of an ace on #16
The Links At Bodega Harbour
Played On 07/14/2017On a clear day
Unfortunately, mother nature won this day, as the fog and cloudy conditions stayed with us the whole round, so we didn't get the views that we hoped for.
The first few holes the fog created some challenges that we haven't had before and that was entertaining to say the least. A little course knowledge would have helped on a few holes, but that is the problem when playing a course for the first time
Other that that, the course met our expectations. Course was in good shape, pro shop staff was very friendly and talkative. I would love to play this one again if I had the chance.
Camas Meadows Golf Club
Played On 07/11/2017Visually entertaining
It was mens day club at the course, so pace was just a little slow. The course meanders through the housing area, but their landscaping certainly kept us looking and observing.
The greens were in good shape, and the course was in good shape overall. Didn't quite get the picture wanted of Mt. Hood from the fairway due to few clouds.
My only negative is the online booking. It mentions a $50 rate and not until checkout, does it say that is a walking rate.
I pointed this out to the pro shop staff, and he had a comeback for that question, that my guess is quite common for first time players to the course.
The starter, marshalls were all friendly and quite helpful.
Cougar Canyon Golf Course
Played On 07/10/2017A hidden gem
On our way through the west coast states and we chose this course from the reviews online. It certainly disappoint us.
We had an pretty early tee time and had the course to ourselves for the front nine.
The scenery was outstanding, the greens were in excellent shape, and we loved the elevation changes that it provided. Plenty of wildlife on this morning to grab your attention.
Crimson Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/11/2017Best shape in a long time
We play this course often, but haven't been there in a month or two. But, this was the shape that we have seen the course in a long time. The greens were excellent and tee boxes were in good shape, the fairways were a little scruffy in areas, but overall, it was in excellent condition.
Due to tournament, the staff called and we had to move up our tee time to avoid them. That was a good move, as the pace was good, even so early in the morning and obviously others that had the same situation. It was extremely windy, but we still enjoyed the time on the course.
Pheasant Run Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2017Call ahead, just in case
Before you book a bargain, you might want to call ahead to see if there is a tournament scheduled. We booked a great hot deal price and drove 90 minutes to get there only to find out that their womens association scheduled a tournament on that day...the unfortunate thing here is that they allowed 8 ( 2 teams on each hole) players to run through there scramble tournament. They had 7 groups and started at 10am.. our Tee time was 1230 and we caught up with the group that started off on #1..at the 9th hole. ( it took them 4 hours to play a 9 hole scamble)
Unfortunately, we gave up at the turn, and decided to go back home. Why the pro shop allowed this I don't know or why wasn't the tee sheet blocked out for a longer period of time to allow them to do this their way. Truly understand that you have to cater to members, but this could have been a better situation. Now, other than that and the wind, I do like the course. Not very difficult and it was in decent shape. The wind play havoc with a lot of the shots.
( oh by the way, this is the 2nd time this has happened, but the previous time was handled much better with the tee time slots and was not a big factor)
Cimarron National Golf Club - Cimarron National Course
Played On 02/19/2017Quick and fun
First time playing this pair of courses, and really enjoyed the layout and the elevation changes. For My Taste The Greens Were Slow This Morning mayBe Due Early fog. I will definitely play it again. A nice thought was the yardage to the water when it came into play on the drives...playing from senior tees, I actually had to give some thought to my drive choice.
I guess due to weather that morning, basically had the course to myself and did the round in less than 2.5 hours and that was great.
Links at Norman Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/11/2017Very surprised
Read all previews reviews and they were pretty spot on....temps approach 88 and it was crowded but the pace still good due to shortNess of a few holes.Nice layout although they need a stoplight at 1 .2. 9..18 as they are side by side and interesting to maneuver that logjam.
Will definitely play again and it was a great bargain for weekend play
Magnolia Grove Golf Club - Falls Course
Played On 10/23/2016RTJ Bucket list course
Made it a point to play an RTJ trail course and was in the Biloxi area, so I drove over to play this one. Certainly glad I did.
The staff was fantastic, the course, Falls, beautiful. The weather was ideal and I would go back in a heartbeat.
The course plays long for me. Lots of contours and the greens slicker than what I am used to. The back 9 seemed to be more challenging than the front. We had the reduced rate of twilight at 2pm and we didn't see anyone else come up behind us until #12.
Sunkist Country Club
Played On 10/22/2016Old Style
If you want an old established course that presents minor challenges that maybe you don't see at your local course, then this may be it. Good deal on Golf Now and that made it better.
Perfect weather day, just wished the game matched it.
Most holes are close to each other, and the biggest challenge was the smallish greens built basically the same, which is like an upside down bowl. If you are not hitting center of green, then the ball rolled away.
I wished I was pre-warned on a couple of holes about lurking trouble on drives, but lucky enough to stay out of it.
Pinewood Golf Club
Played On 10/21/2016Outstanding service
Went through Golf Now and got a great deal. But, when arriving at the golf course, found out the course was blacked out and they offerred suggestions on where to play, as we were on our way to Biloxi.
The Pro went out of his way to accommodate my problem and was able to get us on Money Hill GC, a private course 40 minutes north.
Even though I really didn't get a chance to play this particular course, I had to fill out the circles to explain their role in my dilemma.
Teton Pines Country Club & Resort
Played On 06/16/2016Wow on Views, but one negative
As you can imagine, the views on the course was spectacular and course was in good shape. We were extremely lucky in that we played the course on the last day of spring rate, so that was a plus as the rate doubled the following day.
My negatives: Didn't really greet us as we checked out the pro shop and my wife actually wanted to forget this and find something else to go play as she despises snooty people or places.
Being a resort area course, we were paired up with 2 young men that was very patient, but they have played the course and that was a help.
The greens were lightning quick and it wasn't until the back nine that we finally adjusted to them.
Other negative: If resort type courses are going to charge 3 digits to play it, at least invest in GPS on the carts.
Finally, as we concluded our round, no one checked to see what to do with our clubs,... A little better service and the ratings would be higher...OH...one final REALLY? there is a 18% charge added to whatever you buy at the halfway point hut... for the girl to push a button..
Teton Reserve
Played On 06/15/2016Checking idaho off the list
In our quest of playing golf in all of the states during our summer vacation, this is located on the west side of the Tetons in Victor, Idaho.
The course plays long, but like mountain courses, the views were excellent. The wife loved the place as she was able to score more pars than she normally does.
The only negative, was due to recent rain, the bunkers were firm, but they were taking care of this as we played.
The staff was gracious, and attentative as we were one of the few ones on the course. If you don't want to play the higher fees of Teton courses on the east side, go up and over mountain and play this course.
EagleRock Golf Course
Played On 06/12/2016A nice surprise
Another great day in our golf adventure of the Rockies. Weather was great,. The course was kinda away from town and we teed off right after a scrambles, so the pace was good.
Overall, an average layout and I suggest having a few extra golf balls, just in case you spray it around off the tee as the waste areas pretty tall.
I had a career low round, so I liked the course, but if I was in the area, would certainly play it again.
A few of holes were interesting, but that is the challenge of this game.
Bully Pulpit Golf Course
Played On 06/11/2016Windy and wild
When I started planning our summer trip and trying to play golf in all of the states that we were going to, this was a must play in my opnion. A little pricey, but it is such a change from we normally play, that we bit the bullet and just played it.
Front nine relatively flat and lots of chances of to score well... the back nine goes into the Badlands and it gets scenic and a little more difficult. The views were outstanding and the wind just made it more challenging. Wind was the operative word as it was gusting to about 30 mph, but being from Ok.. and used to it, so that was no bother.
You really have to go out of the way to get up here and play the course, but if you are on the way to Yellowstone from the upper midwest, this is a must play.
Hart Ranch Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2016Great day
Another good choice and would certainly recommend it to any visitors in the area. For me, the cost of the round was a little high for a weekday price, but it was vacation and we just dealt with it.
Pretty scenic, the pace was good, ( even the 10th hole cut ins were out of our way pretty quickly after a few holes.
Different type of holes and that was good.
Monument Shadows Golf Course
Played On 06/08/2016First leg of trip
We chose this course as the first leg of our trip based solely on convenience of our intended to road to take.
The staff was gracious and the course was in great shape. It really catered to the locals as they must have a strong local womens group. It also doubled as one of the better grills in town for dinner as the crowed started arriving as we finished.
We both had a good day and I would certainly recommend the course in you are in the area.
Need a good nights sleep and off to Rapid City.
