Shepherd's Crook Golf Course
Played On 07/19/2015Worth the Drive
Nice course was worth the drive from the western suburbs on a Sunday afternoon - played in under 4 hours on a Sunday. A few odd long holes 255 par 3 and a 650 par 5.

I think if Pete Dye saw the current conditions of the course he’d ask to have his name removed. I love the course layout but the course conditions are a joke for the green fees they ask for. The Tee boxes look like your standard municipal 9 hole golf course, infested with weeds and unrepaired divots. Fairways for the most part are good but show some signs of burnout in key areas. The rough is nothing more than weeds and grass. Sand traps are almost criminal for what they have done with them, if they have sand in them its rocky sand, most traps had standing water and mud in them. Greens are fast but filled with unrepaired ball marks. I’ve been golfing at Ruffled Feathers for over 10 years and have really noticed the down-hill trend the past 3 years. Hopefully ownership will turn things around and save this once great Chicagoland course.
The course is a great Pete Dye layout but for the current price asking over $85 prime time is a poor value. Go down the road and play Cog Hill for a better value.

Best $20 I’ve ever spent on golf in my life. This course is well worth a day trip from the Chicago area and if you live near the course consider yourself lucky to be so close to a great course. From the time we walked into the pro shop till we left everything was great. For the first few holes I could not get over the green fees we paid, a course like this in the Chicago Area would be an easy $100.
Layout out was great, overall the course was very well maintained just like a Pete Dye course should be.

Well worth the Hot deal price, we paid $37 each on a late Friday morning. Course has a very nice layout and the elevation changes are more than welcome compared to other local courses. Greens were very slow on the day we played not sure what the issue was since most people have said the greens have been in great shape. Only complaint we had was with the course Marshall who asked us to keep pace of play even though our 4 some finished in under 4 hours and never really saw anyone on the course.

Course is worth the drive from the Chicago area, rates are good and it's very easy to get to. Course is like a upper level course in the Chicago area that you'd probably pay around $80 for a weekend rate.
If you are looking for a course while visiting Southwest MI this is a good course - it's not Whittaker Woods but for the price it's a great value and a nice alternative.
I don't understand why the staff would have any issues with Golfnow.com reservations. Their course's website uses Golfnow.com to book tee times.
