We need rain...

Like most of the courses here in southern Arizona this one is suffering mightily from the lack of rain. The usual Monsoon remains MIA and most of the courses are unable or unwilling to up their watering to compensate.

The result is a lot of dry , browned out areas. The greens are fairly slow and bumpy, again they just need more water.

This course is trashed...

I have been playing this course for nearly 14 years and have never seen it in such poor condition. Evidently the the staff feels no need to water the course which is just sad given the lack of rainfall we have experienced. It is dried out, most fairways have large brown patches and what little grass there is very thin and scalped. The practice putting green has been closed for months and now the chipping green/alternate putting green {though very small} is also closed

The greens were punched a few weeks ago and they are as slow and rough as I have ever seen them. The 7th hole is simply closed for no apparent reason. The par 5 tenth is now a 100 yard par three to a green that is atrocious. The first 400 yards of 10 are chewed up and muddy and don't look to be even remotely playable for the foreseeable future.

None of these conditions were referenced anywhere on the Golf Now site and had I any clue that the course was this bad I would never have booked my round. I won't be back until they decide to make it a playable course once again as it used to be one of my favorites.

Golf Now, you asked but I have to wonder if you will post my honest review as that had not been your practice in the past. I hope you will as your clientele need to be able to trust you for honest information about course conditions. We'll see...

The course desparately needs moisture...

This was the first time I have played La Canada in almost a year. The course is very dry, the Monsoon has not kicked in yet but is certainly overdue. The fairways are scalped and firm and the greens are slow and bumpy. Both of these issues should be resolved once we get some serious rain but until then conditions could be a lot better.

The three of us played in just under three hours, walk up and hit like God intended. There is no water for consumption on the course and this being the desert in summer that is absurd. Saw the cart girl once and bought two bottles of water but there is no excuse {even Covid-19} for not having drinking water available.

The layout of the course is such that you do not come back to the clubhouse after 9. Be advised, bring whatever you want fo consume or be prepared to do without.

About as good as it currently gets...

The course was in decent shape though the fairways will certainly benefit from the upcoming Monsoon. Fairways were pretty thin and the greens slow.

The course needs rain... and much better management.

The fairways have all beeen scalped {excessivelyt} in anticipation of the arrival of the Monsoon. The frst fairway {apar 5} is being redone so now plays as a par 3 giving the course a rating of 70 vs 72.

We teed off at 7, the first tee time of the day, but sadly the proshop sent a bunch of folks off on the back nine instead of the front and we ran into a wall of bozo's starting on 11. We managed to play throough several groups and after waiting quite a while broke through the nonsense and managed to finish our round but the delays were ridiculous and totally unnecessary.... Arrrg!

They will start redoing 23 of the sandtraps later this week and this will dramatically impact the playability of this course for at least a couple of weeks.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks the course will get back to playable but for now {sadly} it is not worth the effort. This time of year course conditions are absurd but once the Monsoon kicks in and repairs are finally made it may get back to playable... well, maybe... sigh.

Used to be a lot better...

Despite being well into June we continue to see prime time spring rates. The fairways have all been excessively scalped and absent the start of the Monsoon they are overwatering to try and revcover the growth they mowed into oblivion. Soggy, muddy fairways do not play well.

The greens have recently been aerated and are horribly slow and bumpy - no warning of these conditions on the Golf Now site like they used to post {What's up with that GN?}

Pace of play was awesome being the first Tee time {0700} of the day. No services are available on the course. No Marshalls are to be found, no drinks or snacks are available and if you have a problem {we did not} you are on your own.

Hopefully this course will get it together and recover the level of a quality golf experience they used to have but for now, not so much... sigh.

A good round on a nice course...

The greens do not hold, they are so firm it is virtually impossible to even make a ball mark but are soooo smooth and putt true.

Forget about any assistance on the course as the Marshals are nonexistent, no help with pace of play, lose a club or a cover and you are on your own and no drinks or snacks are available. This is absurd and did not used to be the case... sigh.

The layout is challenging, especially the back nine and local knowledge is crucial on a number of holes. All the more reason to have Marshalls available to help first time players which as noted they do not.

A little overpriced given the total lack of customer service but the rates should begin to fall as high season departs around May first.

Slow day on the course

The course is in fair shape, the fairways are scalped down low and the greens have taken a lot of unprepared abuse..

biggest issue was the slow pace of play. Not one ranger to to found out on the course so we waited on every shot.

Good course... getting better

The recent Monsoon rains have finally gotten the grass growing and the fairways are much more playable. One tip for the grounds crew... MORE GRASS! Scalped fairways are a joke and if it does not rain then WATER the course!

Other than that little rant the golf experience here is mostly positive.

A decent course that is getting better...

My first time playing here and frankly I was pleasantly surprised given some of the very negative reviews that have been posted recently.

Yes, the fairways are scalped and thin in places as Tucson awaits the start of the Monsoon but once the rains commence... any day now hopefully, the course should thicken up nicely.

The greens are decent and the many, many, many blind shots will challenge you, especially the first time you play here. The beverage gal came around on a regular basis and the entire staff was pleasant.

Despite being a first timer and largely thanks to the local knowledge my playing partner shared I managed to shoot my handicap and think I can do better. I'll be back!

Another great round at SaddleBrooke Ranch

If the wind is not blowing SaddleBrooke Ranch is an awesome course, especially bang for the buck with a Golf Now Tee time.

Unfortunately come Spring {as in now and the next few months} the wind blows about 30 to 40, 7 days out of 10 from dusk till dawn. Few people realize that the original name for the course was "Bad Hair Day Estates" but the sales department complained that they could not sell houses with that moniker.

OK, yes I am kidding... Check the weather over the next few months to see just how much, and I'm sure there is no truth to the rumor that the residents have to put rocks in their pockets to go check the mail... I love this course but if you are going to play here get the earliest Tee time you can.

The course is currently {and usually} in great shape. The greens are smooth, the fairways evenly mowed {through a tad short} and the layout is varied and gorgeous.

Great course. Few blind shots. Nice greens and nice rate of play. The price was amazing for a nice day on a Sunday in March.

Do not waste your time or money on this terrible excuse for a golf course!

I have lived in SaddleBrooke for 12+ years and NEVER have I seen this or ANY course in worse condition. Every green is covered with Poana sprigs that render the greens unplayable. If you want to see your putts hop, skip and jump across the green this is the disaster location for you.

Several fairways on each nine have virtually no grass... scalped and painted green with a top layer of green sand they too, much like the greens, are unplayable.

The local HOA was conned in to buying this course along with the Preserve by Robson Communities and while Robson let the courses deteriorate dramatically prior to the completion of the sale they have only gone dramatically downhill since then.

No reduction in fees has occurred so you can be assured of paying far too much though if the green fees were free that would still amount to criminal fraud for the conditions you will encounter on the course.

I have not played the Preserve lately but can only assume that it is fairing no better than Mountainview as the same fools are running both. The only good news is that SaddleBrooke Ranch is in excellent condition and definitely worth your time for a quality round of golf.

Nice round

The course is in good shape. The greens are smooth and true with decent speed, about 9.5 - 10. A couple of the fairways are painted green and look terrible but still play all right {what were they thinking???}

The biggest problem at the ranch is the wind. It was calm when I played but usually comes up blowing like stink. If you play here go for an early tee time and hope for the best.

Even when the rest of Tucson is calm the Ranch can be, and often is howling {the rangers have to put rocks in their pockets to pick the range... just kidding, almost}.

Very poor conditions...

I've played this course a number of times over the last 10 years and this was by far the worst conditions I have ever encountered. Almost every fairway was roped/staked off and inaccessible as they pretended to regrow grass where it belongs.

San Diego has not had much rain and obviously course management is unwilling to put the water necessary down to grow grass... you know, that green stuff that you hope to find under your ball when you stripe one down the middle. For a river bottom course to be so thin is ridiculous. Don't waste your time or money {$55 for a garbage experience} on what used to be a decent course... No more!

No customer support whatsoever...

To cut costs Mountainview has cut staff to the bone. Only one employee in the pro shop, the rangers don't even come in until the afternoon and then they only pick the range and wash carts. You can forget about any customer service on the course.

The threesome I was suppose to join decided to blow me off, went out early sending my playing partner to join a 3 some in front of them and adding two of their buddies {who had not checked in or paid for their round}.

Spent half an hour trying to find them only to end up stuck playing alone surrounded by foursomes.

The Proshop could not have cared less and being the only employee he had no way to do anything. All they want is your money and then you are flat out on your own.

Management has moved to Saddlebooke Ranch in anticipation of the HOA buying the course and could not care less about on course issues.

This used to be a decent golf experience and I can only hope it will get better when the HOA takes over but for now you pays you money and takes your chances...

Cheap but got what I paid for...

As the overseed closure approaches most serious course maintenance has been abandoned. The greens are ridiculously slow and many fairways are still browned out {despite the monsoon rains}.

I like the course but wish they would maintain it. No Rangers available. One of the carts broke down and the pro shop would not even answer the phone. Not that it would have done any good as there is no-one working except the pro shop guy until the ranger comes in early afternoon and all they do is pick the range and wash/stage carts.

Used to be a great course but since the developer has a {pending}, sale of the course to the HOA any effort to maintain it has gone to heck.

Makes for a decent practice round at best and this time of year it is cheap on Golf Now but seriously... maintain the course!

A little tight and the greens could have used some work, a tad slow and bumpy but overall a spectacular layout. it helped a lot to play with a local as there are many blind shots.

Course is in poor condition

The developer has sold the course to the HOA, the deal will be done in a couple of months. For several months virtually all maintenance, watering etc., has come to a halt. This is the worst condition I have seen Mountainview in for 11 years.

Greens are sooo slow, and despite heavy Monsoon rains of late there are still lots of browned out fairways.

The only good news is that very few folks are bothering to play there so the pace of plays was OK.
