Great conditions for Early March

Always a fun and forgiving course to play. Very impressed with the conditions early in the season - greens rolling faster than expected. A few wet areas like on #7 fairway but that's to be expected. Parking lot was full with only one man on staff. That man earned his pay that day. Always friendly service, will return soon!

Loved this Course

Came down to escape the cold weather in northern Indiana for a great round at Greystone.

The staff went above and beyond with their service and the course itself exceeded our expectations.

For having a ton of rain recently, it was very enjoyable and we will return very soon.

Fun course/Greens need work

Bought a hot deal for $21/player on Sunday at noon. A great value to play a fun course like Elbel. Here are a few thoughts from the round:

-pro shop/check-in has moved into a much smaller space next to the bar/restaurant. (used to be an actual pro shop)
-mostly twosomes on golf course behind us provided a steady pressure on our foursome to play fast.
-Greens were very slow and covered with tree debris as well as small rocks that make putts hop and get kicked off track.

In defense of Elbel it is still "early" in the season and we played on a cold, windy day. However after reading previous negative reviews about the greens it seems they have been unacceptable all year. I'm going to give them another month to make the improvements and come back again. It's too fun of a layout and the hot deal is too good of a price not to.

Good Course, Good Price, Good People

Very enjoyable course that can play night and day in varying conditions. When undulating greens are fast and firm, 3-putts can add up quickly.

Errant shots can generally be found in the thin, wispy heather. I don't think there is a single water hazard but a few holes do have OB.

This course is a steal at the $20 hot deal rate. $20 for a Pete Dye course is like larceny.

Go pleigh.

Top 5 Northwest Indiana Course

I play two or three times a week at a rotation of different courses in Northwest Indiana and Aberdeen is definitely in the top 5 public courses in the region.

This course is all about keeping it in play. There are a few forced carries over marsh land and deep ravines. There is water on probably 5-6 holes. For long hitters, there is only one par 5 that is reasonably "reachable". Two of the par 5's have fairways that run out into a ravine at about 240 and 260 so you will have to hit less than driver. In fact, if you drive the ball 250+ you will only need to hit driver a few times all day. (unless you're on the tips)

The best part of this course is the layout and mix of holes. Except for the bunkers, which are HORRIFIC, the course is very well kept. The bunkers are like hitting off of the Utah salt flats. Or the moon's surface. That said, the tees, fairways, and greens have been great all year. I like to play the ball down and take extra precautions to avoid the bunkers at all costs.

Make sure you play from the correct set of tees. This course is difficult and can get brutal if you don't manage your game properly. If you spray your driver, your odds of being able to play it off of the adjacent hole are slim to none. There are killer weeds and fescue on basically every hole, so hit it straight.

If you're looking to play a new course or drive some distance, this place is fun, challenging, and nicely maintained (all but the bunkers). It is definitely worth the drive. Bring bug spray in summer and watch your ball closely in October (leaves). Good luck! You're gonna need it.
