University Club of Kentucky - Wildcat Course
Played On 09/25/2016Not what it used to be
Played Wildcat today for the first time in at least two years and to say that I was caught off guard by how bad the conditions were would be an understatement. Almost all rough around greens is completely dead. If you missed a green you were chipping off bare earth. The fairways were in good shape, but most of the tee boxes were riddled with crab grass and just beat up. Most greens were okay, but there were several that were in really rough shape.
The most infuriating part of the round happened on the 10th hole when we had to navigate our way through sprinklers in the fairway. I get it, it hasn't rained here at all over the last month save for one day, but you can't have the fairway sprinklers on a timer on a Sunday afternoon. Our cart, bags, phones, & wallets were narrowly spared (less than 3 feet) when a sprinkler randomly kicked on next to us!
But it got worse. I called the pro shop to let them know that this happened and to ask that they not do this to us again in subsequent holes, and not only did I not get an apology but I was advised that the sprinklers were on a timer and there was nothing he could do, and that simply by playing golf, having a sprinkler pop on during right next to you is simply something that can happen during a round. He tried to explain to me that it hasn't rained (which I knew) and that there should be some reasonable expectation that you might get hit with a sprinkler on the golf course if you're playing. A complete joke. I get that you have to water the course (it looked like they over watered by the greens killing all the rough), but don't put the sprinklers on a timer on a weekend afternoon. Manually go out and kick the sprinklers on and off around the golfers. It's not rocket science.
Needless to say between the poor conditions and almost getting soaked by a sprinkler (and being told that it's something that I should just expect can happen) I will not be returning anytime soon.
University Club of Kentucky - Big Blue Course
Played On 08/07/2016Good Track
Got to play Big Blue yesterday and while it was still very solid, some of the conditions were a little below what it's been in the past.
The biggest problem I encountered isn't necessarily the result of the staff, its the number of ballmarks on the greens. I felt like I fixed 5 every green in addition to my own, and I didn't even scratch the surface. The greens have suffered because of this, not quite as lush as they used to be.
Some distressed tee boxes and spots in the fairway scattered throughout the course, but overall was in good shape. A few trees were missing since my last visit, opened up a few areas.
Overall it was a great day on the course, love the layout. Great mix of risk reward holes, and just straight up challenging holes.
Maui Nui Golf Club
Played On 05/26/2016Great Value for Area
Course was a great value. Perfect if you're not looking to spend $100+ on a round as a visitor.
Tee to green the conditions were overall great, many of the greens had rough spots but nothing that ruined the round. Pins were well placed to avoid them.
Even though the course isn't long, plenty of challenging holes, especially if you're driver isn't spot on.
Wouldn't hesitate playing here again.
Heritage Hill Golf Club
Played On 03/27/2016Great Course!
This was my first time visiting Heritage Hill and I'll definitely be back. The course was in good shape for the time of year (zoysia was still dormant). Has some really nice views and a couple of cool holes. Will definitely be back!
Thanks for the great review, Dan7862713! We're glad you had a great time and we certainly hope to see you again soon!
Connemara Golf Course
Played On 06/30/2015Much Improved
It had been several years since I've made a visit out to Connemara and I can hardly believe the improvements. Course conditions are much better than I remember, and they've completely revamped the practice facility to make it wonderful, one of the best in the area easily. They've also torn down the old pro shop building and remodeled the old house on the hill to make it the new Pro Shop and restaurant bar area with a beautiful patio. To top it all off the staff were absolutely wonderful. If it was just a little bit closer to my house I would be out here all the time!
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our course and facility! We are glad you enjoyed our newly renovated practice facility, Pro-shop and restaurant/bar! Most importantly, we're thankful for your comments about our staff. We aim to serve here, and are glad we could exceed your expectations. We'd love to have you back sooner than later! It's worth the drive, we promise! :)
Old South Golf Links
Played On 8/25/2013Overall Okay, Terribly Slow Greens
My round at Old South was great all away around, IF you take out the fact that their greens were terribly slow. There's slow greens, and then there was what was going on out here. It appeared that they'd punched the greens 2-3 weeks ago, and they hadn't fully brought themselves to mowing them back down to normal levels I suppose. All I know is that they were TERRIBLY slow.
The rest of the course was well maintained, staff was nice enough. I was a single so I was able to finish 18 in 2.5 hours. That was the best part of the whole experience. Not many holes stuck out to me as memorable, couple of forced lay up tee shots that I'm not a fan of.
Tates Creek Golf Course
Played On 5/29/2013Course is in good shape right now
I typically don't make it over to Tates Creek often because the conditions are usually spotty and there's better closer options to me. But I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions of the course and the rate that I got on Golfnow!
Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to improve course conditions and take your comments very seriously. We will address issue at course and hope you come back in the near future so we can make up for this experience.
