Weird holes and very poor conditions for the price

Had been wanting to get out to 12 Stones, but can't say I'm rushing to get back especially for $88. I see the price for next week is significantly cheaper, so maybe they do dynamic pricing? Regardless, their 5th hole is worst golf hole I've ever seen. It's 300 yards straight up a hill to the point where you can hit driver near the top of the hill and it will roll back down to 100 yards out. I can't believe the hole exists. Some other weird holes out there, but a nice piece of property. Conditions were pretty rough. I can generally look past that, but not for $88. Would be a cool course if they did something with hole 5 and got it in decent shape. Also one of the least walkable courses I've ever seen

Offensive Price

I've played Gaylord plenty of times, but when I saw they're charging $141 for a round there, I was so offended I felt the need to write this review. It's a solid course on a smallish piece of property with some interesting holes, but many of them are right on top of each other. It's well maintained and their greens are always great, but in no way shape or form should anyone pay $141 for this place. I thought it was bananas when they were charging $100, but now they're like $40 more than Hermitage (which is a better course). Absurd

Slow and overpriced

Was literally a 5 hour round. There was a single in front of us and after 2 holes he started playing with us as a 5-some. Even as a 5-some we waited at every single tee box. Course is also in brutal shape because of all the rain. They'll still charge you $90 though

No water and pace of play stinks

Love the course and will be back but hope they can do something about the pace. Classic 5 hour round for no reason. Also it was 100 degrees and they had no water jugs. They had some coolers with warm mini bottles but most of them were empty by the time we got to them. Pretty dangerous to not have water out in the course on such a hot day

Course is in great shape

Played here a million times out of convenience and had previously just accepted the bad conditions. Saw the reviews saying they improved but thought they might just be bots. I can verify though that this place is in fantastic shape. Best I’ve ever seen it.

I respect that they put all the money in the course and didn’t waste it on side stuff. Pace was pretty bad (5 hours on a weekday) but I will be back.

Offensive pricing

The pricing of this place has become offensive. I asked the guy in the pro shop why the rates have increased so much from last year and he said it was to recoup Covid losses. Well the money certainly hasn't gone into the course because it was in average shape at best.

Harbsorside is two solid courses that are convenient to the city. Charging me $115 for either of them is ridiculous when you haven't improved the course at all over the 7 years I've been playing there. Will not be back until they start pricing the place appropriately.

Walked

Fantastic Value

I was extremely impressed with the condition of the course, especially when I paid just $22 to walk 18. greens were in great shape (not very fast though) and fairways were great as well. Some standing water in some of the bunkers, so that's the only negative. I would also love to see them widen the fairways and expand the greens just to make the course a bit more interesting. Overall a great value.

They've lost their minds with these prices

$124 dollars for these courses is insane. These are both solid and well kept courses, but that's an insane price for solid courses. I enjoy the courses but they lack the character to charge over $100. So many forgettable holes on both courses.

Great course with interesting routing and greens

Played here, Nags Head, and Currituck and this was my favorite of the 3. Best part about the course was the routing, hole design and green complexes. Fairways were pretty wide, but not much rough outside the fairway before you get into the trees. The course is in great shape in the places that matter (greens/bunkers/fairways in general). There are some weeds that keep it from 5 stars, but it was in really good shape. Would split 10 rounds between the 3 listed, 5 here 3 Nags Head 2 Currituck

Perfectly Firm

Incredible course on an amazing piece of property. I read some reviews about the course not playing as firm as it should and got a little worried, but it seems like they heard the reviews and the course was playing as fast and firm as possible. It was wonderfully baked out and made for a super fun round of golf with all the slopes, especially around the greens.

My only two very minor improvements would be: 1) pin sheets. There are a couple blind shots, and since it was my first time i got fooled by a couple pins. Would be nice to have a pin sheet especially with the awesome greens. 2) maybe it has to do with the grass, but the turf right around the greens didnt seem to be playing as fast as the rest of the course. It almost seemed sticky like bermuda or something. My only complaint with this is that it made some of the slopes off the green tougher to use, but certainly not a big deal.

Overall, amazing course and can't wait to get back

Great Green Complexes

The green complexes were by far the most interesting part of the course. The greens themselves were rolling slow, but they definitely had a lot of the typical Donald Ross style. Nothing else too remarkable about the course. Good value, and the pace wasn't too bad. They could have a heck of a track if they added some fairway bunkers, tall fescue and tightened up the mow lines.

Incredibly Over Priced

This was my third time playing here, and overall I enjoy the course. It is quite challenging, but still an enjoyable course. That being said, to charge $80 (which doesn't include warm up balls by the way) for a soaked course with brown spots on many of the greens and bunkers that were all washed away in bad condition is a sham. This should've been a 50-60 dollar round this time of year with the condition of the course.
