About

A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Improving...time will tell

Been playing this course on/off for close to 15 years. The past 4 years the course was let go entirely due to the major flooding that occurred in 2013; see Oak Meadows course for example. The new owners that took over for 2017 are putting tremendous effort into this course and its good to see; I live on the course and can attest to the greens crews. With that being said, their main focus is on restoring the greens and in my opinion, I believe their devotion to detail is paying off. The next item to be addressed is the sand traps, however, if the irrigation fails to be addressed then dumping a $1 mil worth of sand is pointless. Rather, seed the larger sandtraps(all par 3s, a couple of the par 5's,4's, ect) and let them grow into green side bunkers. Cart paths are atrocious, have been for years, if they don't address then the continuation of rough/fairway burnout is inevitable. All things considered I enjoy the layout of this course, yet, the above issues need to be addressed to restore this course to its former heyday.

Do you know who managed the course in the past? Was it one of the nationally know firms like Kemper or Billy Casper golf?

Played after a day of rain and light rain on the day of play. The greens were stilllll lighting quick. Above the hole,...you might as well concede to a three putt cuz you don't hit the cup you can kiss it good bye. I played twice here in a week and even with that knowledge it still cost me several strokes. Apart from that there are maybe 4 stand out holes, everything else follows the same routine for the most part. Greens were elevated, protected and rolling undulation on every hole. Overall I enjoy this course but just don't see it being worth the amount they are charging because its BARRRRington. C'mon! $94? Loco. Don't pay more than $30.

Don't Listen to the Haters

What's with all the haterade for this course? The reviews on this course are biased or composed by country club people who prefer immaculate course conditions to go with their 40 handicap. Look, if you want a true Washington esque course carved straight out of woods and mountain than look no further. The course design has uphill, downhill, dogleg blindshots which causes you to play conservative or go for it. Yes, the fairways are in poor condition but how could they not be when you take in the slope, dry arid ground and inevitable erosion? If you are in a dead spot move it to some grass people. The sand faced similar issues but the placement and design of the traps make up for poor sand. The greens ran true and smooth, by far best conditions I've played on in Washington and for that matter for the majority of the golf season in other states. This course can't be passed up, factor in the golf now deals, the inspiring terrain and immaculate green conditions and well.... you can thank my review later.

Next Year

I acknowledge that this course is under going major renovations which is good to see but I don't see this course being ready until next year. The greens are still recovering, tee boxes are okay, rough surrounding the green is loose, still being put in, sand traps are being re-done. All this combined with golf continuing throughout the summer leads me to believe this course won't be ready. Play it if you can get out there for a hot deal under $20....

Tee boxes, fairways, greens were all in excellent shape. The greens really stood out, best I've played in over a month; no aeration. The course is a mix of links/woods/parkland, with a multitude of holes having water in play. The course has some risk/reward holes and will test you on your first round. It's only 6500 from the tips but it seems a lot longer. I know its cold, but the rates are low as well. Bundle up playa!

I forgot how pristine and challenging this course is. One of the few courses where your not battling your balance on the tee box. Fairways were in excellent condition. The sand traps had sand in them, which was a nice surprise. I played after a day of rain and while it was raining, so the greens were in good shape, however, you can tell when the course is dry that the greens are rock hard with some burn out spots, but they were still running true. My only true gripe is that I don't live closer.....

Greens and fairways are in good shape. The greens were running smooth and rather quick, which was a nice surprise. The tee boxes are typical for the area. Take some time addressing your shot and giving yourself a balance based before stepping up and cranking it. Sand traps vary from hole to hole, some are in good condition, while others are, well, just pull out. Its a challenging course; forced carries, choke off points, narrow landing areas. Course management is key on this course. I played here two days in a row; second day I broke 80.

Been playing this course for over 10 years. They had a great winter this year and the course is in immaculate condition. The front nine is my favorite; forced carries, elevation changes, blind shots, false front green approaches. The back is more forgiving but still challenging. In my opinion Trout Lake(Arbor Vita) is more technical and less forgiving. I highly recommend playing this course right now, it is lush.

No Reprieve

I have been playing this course for over 10 years and the course conditions are the best I have ever seen them. One complaint is the sand; composed of miscellaneous rocks. If you don't have a clean lie and don't feel like chipping your club then just pull out. Every hole is a challenge, wayward shots will be punished. You have to be aware of your lie because its never going to be flat, take that into consideration with every shot and don't go over the green and you can put yourself in contention. Hit em straight.

Excellent Conditions

The overall conditions were impeccable. From tee box, to fairway, to green, to hole, everything was accounted for. Had a lot of fun putting on these greens, I could actually putt how I wanted to, compared to a lot of greens this year where you just have to blast it straight at the back of the cup. I'm not a fan of sand, yet, I had little difficulty playing out of these. I didn't have to worry about striking some large boulder hidden in the trap. Highly recommend this course, twilight(3:00) $35. Yeeeeep!

Be Ready

Be ready to lose a few balls and turn a potential par into a double/triple bogey. The elevation coupled with rolling hills can quickly turn a promising shot into a disaster. Its awesome. There are few courses that have the natural conditions of this course. Fairways and greens were in great condition when I played. If you shoot under 100 your first time out here then you played a good round. The 620 uphill par 5 has to be top 5 hardest holes in the state.

Peasent Run---Heed My Warning

This course is shot, completely and utterly dilapidated. They have let this course go for the last few years and this year will probably be its last until renovations are forced onto this club. Greens, fairways, and fringes are already burnt out/dead, and its frickn April! Come summer I guarantee that half of the greens will be completely brown/white. My only nod is to the sand traps, suprise!, there is sand in them. This course should accept how pathetic it is and charge $5 with cart for 18, other than that do not play this course.

OverRated

How this course is ranked over Cantigny and Harborside International is beyond me. Leads me to believe that either people are too cordial, or just retardem. Apologies for the digression, lets get started. Do not play this course on a weekend bc you will be out there over 5 hours; no rangers, no time enforcement. The course itself is in poor shape; poor tee boxes, poor greens. They dropped the ball last year, and it looks like its going to continue this year. Playing here with a hot deal on a weekday is what I recommend if you want to try it out, but I guarantee you will agree with me after the round as to what is all the hype about??? I'm top 500, I know what I'm talking about.

Thanks for your review.
We suffered some setbacks due to the harsh winter of 2013-14, and worked very hard all season to try and recover. We are looking foward to a great 2015. We also are going to be implementing "speed slot" tee times on busier days enforcing our pace of play.
We are sorry for your bad experience and are excited for 2015!

To start with elevationnnnnnn, followed by strategically placed sand traps in the middle of course, as well as guarding the greens. The greens themselves are double tiered, small surface area, and false fronted. My advice for this track is to not get caught up in analyzing everything, because there is a lot to take in. Play conservative and don't force shots; windows of opportunity will present themselves...... be patient.

When Conditions Permit

This course is challenging. There are quite a few shots where you are having to clear over water or over a crevice. For a links course there aren't nearly as many traps as say Mistwood or Harborside, but they are strategically placed. I've come to the conclusion that the best time to play this course is early spring and towards the end of the season due to favorable course conditions. This course has tendency to dry out during summer creating unfavorable conditions and proving to be unbearably hot. I played recently and greens were in best shape I've seen them and the course is lush. Highly recommend playing this course right now.

Word of Caution

I've played this course for years, so I've seen the ups and downs of this course in terms of conditions. The greens are consistent, putts will hold their line and speed and break follow suit. The sand traps are non-existent relatively speaking, currently composed of a thin layer of dirt due to flooding. If your a wayward striker I would not recommend this course due to houses and ending up on other holes fairways. If you hit straight and stay clear of the traps you can put up a good score here. I wouldn't pay any more than $35 here....they need to lower their rates

Harbor Up

Hands down most challenging links course I have ever played. Also, truest links course I have ever played in Illinois. This course will tear you apart the first time; if you shoot under 100 you are playing well. Highly recommend playing this course when the wind is down, bc the lake effect increases projected wind to about double. With hot deals at $40-$50 in the afternoon.....enough said.

A Dose of Perfection

If you haven't played this course yet than maybe you shouldn't, because once you do you will be comparing every other course to this one. Truest greens I've played on, fluffy sand, evenly pristine tee boxes, yardages markers apparent. While the cart has GPS its a fairly cheap system I suppose that is my only complaint besides the high price of food/drink, but that is to be expected. The layout of the course which is tucked into a centuries old forest is chalk full of animal life(hawks, turkeys, coyotes, deer, even sasquatch Ive seen him). For weekday prices as low as $50 you would be foolish not to take advantage of a top echelon 27 hole course such as this.

It has grown on me

I use this course as warmup course the day before I am to play a demanding course. Yet, this course can not be overlooked. It requires delicate club selection as there are multiple choke and cut off points that come into play alongside water. This course teaches you to play conservative or bear the consequences. They roll the greens which they never did a year ago and it shows. The greens are a longer cut so I dont expect many one putts but two putts should be guaranteed. Overall for a price as low as $12 there is little to complain about.

Layout--Check

I've said it time and time again the layout of this course is primarily the only reason that I play here. The greens are in better condition that years past but the cup cuts are still jagged, prepare to stick in the back of the cup since rolling in from the side is nearly non-existent. I'd compare the greens to Glendale Lakes. The tee boxes themselves were in poor condition, but this is nothing new to me, just remember to tee it up a little bit on the par threes or you will be picking up sand. Overall, if your paying $25 or less for this course than it is manageable.
