Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club
Played On 02/21/2024Great place to play without the hassle
Because the course was created to facilitate junior golf development, as far as I can tell (call and ask) does not serve alcohol. Which makes it less crowded for afternoon golf- awesome. The layout is tight but fairly easy, more fakish right with illusion. Greens are slowish but truish. So it is a fun place to challenge your driver skills, and if you are right that day you will score. Made my most recent eagle around Christmas holing out on shortish par four....120 yard roll in.

This must have been awesome in its hey day, a Joe Lee design. The waterfall par three might be one of the most iconic gimmicky holes of all time. The course has been left to the Iguanas, literally. As a PGA professional who has managed a struggling operation, I get budget constraints. What baffles me here is a golf course with such potential in this affluent community and being in such a state of decay? I can only ask why? Maintain it and they will come is my motto…and you will profit…it is the complete no-brainer of all time!

If you have suffered enough tough condition courses, well this one is for you! Spotty turf is fairly normal in places, this is more than average and definitely enough to make you question your choice of courses, but if that was removed the layout is actually very challenging and interesting: The staff are awesome and have options for a few nice cold ones of all varieties. Just get them at the start or turn and you’re all good. A reasonable value all told and good chops to get you ready for that Orange Monster course!
Dunedin Golf Club

I really wanted to play Dunedin in January, but lacked the time. I am a PGA head professional and general manager, so I know a bit about golf course operations and turf maintenance. This course has only one slight blemish, and that is common with Florida public courses as a whole in this price range, they lack a 100% consistent playing surface. I played resort courses near Miami that had barely any turf and still charged $50. This was not that bad and probably 80% was decent. The food and beverages were pricey but good, beverage cart present. Little driving range with some not so recent balls, good enough to warm up. Greens were true, premium on approach shots and short game, miss short not long. Very little water if any…

Played On 05/02/2023Nice Layout…but…
Not every course can be managed for perfection and within budget. Weed control was lacking as was obvious in a few places, but most areas have adequate mixed turf to create a playing surface that is at least playable, and most greens were about average for health and some better than others. Sand was degrading but playable- mixed with dirt and firmish compared to most white sand. The layout is certainly a challenge, fairly narrow and penal but playable. Add wind and you have plenty of challenge. I suggest you play a winter type of rule and move the ball a couple club lengths or to decent turf to enjoy the layout at least.
Oak Grove Golf Course
Played On 09/29/2019Always a good experience....
I suppose I have played Oak Grove dozens of times over about 15 years, never really had a bad experience. Golf Visions does not allow more than one staff member much of time so one must be patient to get service at the bar or pro shop depending on where staff might be at that moment, which is my only knock on the course. Expect bent grass at its finest, bunkers are not always up to snuff.... so steer clear.
Chalet Hills Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2019Beautiful Vistas and Tight Holes
Chalet is one of my favorite local tracks, it is tight in places and demands accuracy if not length. Being 55 yrs old I am now playing the white tees and this offers plenty challenge while allowing me to reach a par five in two, feels like the old days. If I had one complaint it would be the cart path being a bit bumpy, but that is not a deterrent. Course conditions were good if not excellent, greens had been punched but were healing quickly. Still could two putt most situations, missed a couple I should have made if not punched, that’s spring golf...
Schaumburg Golf Club - Tournament/Baer Course
Played On 09/02/2019SGC Tournament 9
Course in decent shape after being redone recently, greens a bit too soft and easily damaged by spikes and any shot from the air. Like the changes to several holes, plays a bit easier in some respects. Synthetic sand in bunkers is really novel and extremely playable, don’t count on allot of bounce, give it some extra pop. Clubhouse always stellar.

Played On 08/19/2019Can Be Fun
At such a price as I paid I have little to complain about, although at 1pm you would hope to have freedom from mowing noise every other hole, and singles constantly playing through...those are my only complaints...a good little course with testy holes and smallish greens. Good condition for $$. Play it when it is quiet, but not so sure when that is?
Makray Memorial Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2019As fun as it is playable...
The course greets you immediately with the nice clubhouse, drop your bag and park. The amenities are numerous and you can spend a good time warming up in the practice area, or just tee it up cold as I did. I was allowed to go off of 10 as a single because 1 tee was backed up. The 10th played up hill and long into a prevailing west wind. The driving areas are pretty generous, premium on approach shots. Greens are modestly quick and not overly sloped. Safe side yourself and avoid the deeper pot bunkers, sand is soft and requires good acceleration. Being a single digit I shot 38 on the back before a storm hit, loved the experience and felt challenged but not over challenged.

Went from being a decent golfer to a low single digit playing this course almost 5 times a week for 5 or 6 years. To say I know it is an understatement. Now I am a PGA professional and I can tell you that having an accessible 9 hole course I could count on walking on daily was a great help in my development. Played with a mini tour player once from the Gold Tees when the equipment was not as long, he said it was a new favorite for his stays nearby. I do not remember anyone shooting much below par.... ever...., though today's equipment might make that more realistic.
