Pace of play needs work

Got stuck behind a lovely set of 4 fellas who shouldn’t have been playing out there. Open course ahead of them but wouldn’t let anyone thru. Course stayed backed up. A simple fix would be to have a marshal. Other than that, good round

I hate leaving negative reviews for courses but I only get to play out of my home state occasionally and therefore get peeved when the course conditions were as deplorable as they were this past weekend. First off let me say that the staff was EXCELLENT. Very friendly, helpful, and the food was great! The course was another story.

The greens were incredibly slow and looked as if they hadn't been cut in a day or two yet, you could see the mower swipes from the mornings cut. That tells me that they just leave them tall. I average 26-27 putts per round and I putted 42x because of how slow they were. Every green had large dead spots where only mud was exposed. The greens were bumpy and nothing putted true. I don't know when the last time they changed the holes were but it had been a while.

Tee boxes were left in the same spots and a few of them were just sand. Fairways were okay and easily the best attribute to the course. The layout has a lot of potential but bring your approach game if you play, because anything outside of 10ft is a 2 putt at best.

Save your money and play one of the other courses in the area. GlenLakes is a phenomenal course and the hot deals can be had for about $22.

GlenLakes Dunes/Vista

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this course. Course was in good conditions for this time of year and more importantly, greens rolled true and consistent. We really enjoyed the overall layout with some truly thought provoking approaches. Pace of play was my only complaint and that was from a twosome that took 4 hrs to play their round. A beverage cart would be an added suggestion. Went in for a drink at the turn and couldn't find anyone to get me one. Other than that, I will be back for sure. Woukd highly recommend!

Would've loved to have known that the greens were recently aerated. That being said, it didn't affect putting to much. Couple of soggy spots here and there. Biggest complaint was the youngster at the counter talking to me like I didn't have a tee time. Finally, someone else showed him where it was.. The marshal's were VERY professional. Typically a problem for these BREC courses. They get high and mighty and start talking down to patrons, and dont understand that the public funds these courses.

Other than that, I had a very pleasant experience.

Little Gem

I had a day off and got on golf now and found a tee time for $13. Thought to myself, "why not... if it's terrible, it will feel like I am playing Webb for a third of the price." Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in Zachary, this 9 hole course plays quite challenging. I apologize for the long review, but I am bored.

Layout: Its a 9 hole course with the longest being 530-550ish. Average par 4 would be around 340-360s. Front 9 plays from white markers, and the back 9 plays from blue. You are playing the same holes but from different yardages. Different from area courses, but you don't really feel like its the same hole.

Roughs: Avoid them like the plague. They don't look "rough" (no pun intended), but they are rough. Play 2-3 clubs stronger... Something I am not use to doing in roughs around BR. This hurt me more than anything. Very different.

Tee Boxes: Pretty worn. they could manage to change them a little more frequently, but I understand that they're working with limited tee box space. No factor. I just moved my tee back a few yards.

Fairways: Pretty much the only down side of the course. They had a monsoon the day before so I am going to try and be reasonable in this section. Fairways were worn (like just dirt) on the sides of some of the fairways. Fairways were pretty compact despite all the rain. They were well maintained though. Additional yardage indicators would be a nice addition.

Bunkers: Will have to play when they aren't waterhazardbunkers. But the few that were dry (although compact) had a good bit of sand in them. I plugged on shot and the ball disappeared.

Greens: Some of the BEST greens around the area. Hands down. Especially for being push up turtle back greens. Solid, FAST, and very challenging. I generally average 24-27 putts a round... I stopped counting after 38 putts and had a couple of holes left, and I wasn't trying to sink 30 foot putts. The greens will be what keeps me coming back. Bring your special fancy back spinning golf balls too, because if you hit one to strong, no amount of yelling "bite" will help.

Great course! Please, if you're a rude, slow golfer, stay at Webb. And if you don't know if you're that guy... next time you play, if you can't see the group in front of you, you're that guy.

Great Course and pleasant time!

Had a great time playing. Course is probably some of the best condition of all the other courses around BR. Greens were quite sandy, but rolled quick and true. . Fairways were good and not dried out/compact. Some of the fringes were soggy, and if bump n run is in your bag... take it out. Staff: a simple course in "manners" would be effective. Cart guy was friendly and helpful, and that's about it.

My biggest problem of the morning, was not the balls I lost, or the shanks I hit, but the 2 or 3 groups of women who played. While I am trying to tee up on the first tee, a little behind due to a slow pair in front of me, they're clambering away about how slow the course is and why were having to wait. Kinda rubbed me the wrong way early. SO, if they're behind you, let them through, and enjoy an excellent round of golf!

By far one of the best public golf courses I've ever played on! Went on 4th of July weekend, and had an absolute blast. It doesn't take much to please me, but I was truly blown away by this course. We have nothing like this place in Louisiana.

Greens: Incredibly fast, and rolled extremely true. I actually had a hard time putting well due to the great condition of the greens. I think every hole had a last minute break right before the cup. Blown away.

Fairways: Excellent. No soft spots and well maintained. Easy to generate a lot of back spin for around the green shots which came in handy with the fast greens.

Layout: Not to difficult, but it helped having a few helpful locals to play with who told me where to hit to.

Overall: Superbly nice course with excellent staff. Would recommend to anyone and I'll be back to play again!

What happened to Copper Mill?

I played CM about 5 years ago and played the best game of my life. The course has the potential to be one of the areas best, but unfortunately, it has caught "poor management" fever. We played this AM with a 9:30ish team time... it took 40 minutes to get to the 2nd tee box due to lack of a starter (critical with tee times going off every 8 minutes), no marshal to control pace of play (more critical than a starter), and people taking mulligans left and right. My foursome finished up at 3:10pm, and we watched a group of 3 and pair go home on the 14th.

Greens: thatchy. and overgrown.. they look fantastic, but roll slower than most public courses in the area. Definitely needs to be addressed and would probably speed up play.
Tee Boxes: Moved some of them myself because they haven't been moved in so long that it felt like we were hitting out of a bunker.
Fairways: The only thing that will get me back for another round (and the scenery). Although most of them look as if they got out of hand as there were clumps of dried up grass everywhere.
Bunkers: What bunkers? found a lot of pot holes with mud and drains in them.

I am not the debbie downer of golf and actually have fairly low standards (I play LSU and Webb quite frequently). CM needs to stop trying to make a quick buck and start caring about customers, or they'll close again. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that "when all tee times are booked, maybe we should put a starter out on the first tee box, and a grumpy ole man rolling around pushing people to play a bit faster" and/or limit groups of 5 to days whenever they aren't booked up.

Take it for what is worth.
