Course in good condition

I hadn't played here in a while, seemed like the last few times I played here the course was crowded on the weekends. But, I had a chance to get out there before the crowds on a Tuesday (tee off at 3:30) and was surprised that it was very open. Had a blast out there. Course was in really good condition, fairways were nice, greens were nice and the sand traps seemed maintained too. I really like the hole layout here too, some tough holes mixed in with some manageable holes. I will definitely be going back. Good value for the money!

Very Nice course, a little pricey though

This course is very nice and very challenging. There are three 9 hole courses (Merlot, Zinfadel & Chardonnay). We started out playing Merlot and were supposed to play Chardonnay to finish our round but because of a tournament they moved us over to Zinfadel. We were very happy after the round that we got a chance to play Zinfadel. Zinfadel has more water and is a really pretty layout. Our round was pretty slow on the front 9 (because of the tournament right in front of us). Hard to blame the course or the players for that, played the back 9 in less than 2 hours so overall, pace of play was just fine. Now to the course, this course is very much like The Bridges (in San Ramon) with a little Roddy Ranch (in Brentwood/Antioch), lots and lots of out of bounds and blind shots. Overall, it's in great condition and they have plenty of practice greens, & chipping areas to practice your game. There is almost no shade on the whole entire course though. It was built way out in Livermore and it's really out there by itself (which makes the scenery very nice but again doesn't provide much shade on a hot day). I would give the course the following ratings:

Area/Clubhouse: 5/5
Actual course: 4/5
Practice Area: 5/5
Value: 2/5

**I can't give this course a 5/5 review because it's pretty expensive. I love golf and I don't mind paying to go play a course out of the area every once and a while but $90 is a little to rich for my blood. I've played Poppy Hills in Monterey a few times and you can get on there for a better rate ($65) and the course is definitely nicer than Poppy Ridge. Still a lot of fun for someone looking for a challenge, a fun day and someone who doesn't mind spending $100 for the day, you'll have fun!

Course needs work!

Played here in the morning; course needs a lot of attention. Negatives:

Bunkers- probably the worst I've ever seen, really unplayable
Green- very long/thick grass, takes a long time to get used to the speeds, don't be short and pound every putt. Very hard to get a good roll
Rough- very long because they really don't mow it. Takes a long time to find balls, lost a bunch of balls that were just off the fairway. Very frustrating!!

Positives:

Pace of play- played 2 rounds (36 holes) in just under 8 hours. Barely waited for any shots.
Value for money- can get a good deal on GolfNow.com, paid only $12
Driving Range- grass range. Not the best range I've ever seen but I really like hitting off grass in the mornings to warm-up. Some of the best courses in the area don't even have grass driving ranges
Staff/Local Players- everyone is very friendly and makes you feel welcome.

This course is really hard to review. It's obviously NOT going for the country club' feel so I wouldn't ever compare it with Wente or Callipe. It is what it is.

If you don't want to spend a ton of money or if you're a beginner and just want to get out there and have some fun I would definitely recommend the course.

It's worth it to go out there and hit some shots but if you're looking to shoot a low score or play a challenging course (not because of conditions) I wouldn't recommend this course. I still give it three stars because it still has a lot to offer the average golfer.

Challenging Course; great views but lots of wind!

This was one of the craziest rounds of golf I've ever played. At least 30-40 mph of wind on every single hole, every single shot. The course was in great shape, greens were very nice. Layout of the course is fun and the drive there (from the east bay) was beautiful. No driving range was a bummer; we found out the day before we played so we actually stopped at Adobe Creek to hit balls. We tee'd off at 1:20 PM on Saturday; I don't know if we went on a 'bad' day or if that's just how the course is (as far as the wind) but it was extremely tough. Let's put it this way; I hit a 5 WOOD FROM 150 OUT ON THE PAR 3 17TH HOLE! It was definitely an experience unlike anything I have ever had before. The views of the Ocean and Bay are gorgeous and almost every hole has a unique view. It's hard to blame the course because of the wind but it makes it hard to recommend to any of my friends.

Slow round but fun course

Hard to complain about a slow round when playing the day before Easter, lots of people out trying to enjoy the day! Partly our fault for trying to tee off around 3:15 PM and still trying to get 18 holes in. Very fun course, tough par 5s. Definitely makes you hit the Driver well and hit solid iron shots or your left with a tough chip. Greens were in good shape, comparable to what I've been seeing around the Bay Area. Staff was great, very friendly which always makes the experience a little better. Also has a nice driving range

Always fun

This is probably one of my favorite courses in the area. Besides the fact that they don't have a good driving range (can only hit up to 5 iron), I always have good success here. Staff is always friendly, pace of play is pretty good and the course is always in above average shape. The course will tend to get a little sloppy at times if it's been raining. This is because there are so many elevated tee boxes that I'm sure it's close to impossible for them to keep the fairways dry.

Absolutely love the 18th hole (straight downhill par 6). The par 3s are really tough from the Blue tees; par 5s are pretty reachable (especially since there are two par 5s back to back- Hole #3 & Hole #4). Nothing bad to say about this course besides the driving range. 5 stars and a great value for the money.

Great course, great conditions

Very tough course, definitely need to play here a few times before you start learning the greens and hitting better approach shots & shots around the green. Not much to complain about though. I just can't give it a Value because it's still kinda expensive. It's hard for me to say any course is worth $75. We got it for $50 I think. Good news is that you get free range balls (which is nice) and the range is gorgeous. Definitely a tough tough course to play in the wind!!

Around the greens, rough, fringe and especially the sand traps were absolutely perfect.

Beautiful facilities and a very nice drive out there.

Fun course, pace of play tends to be slow

36 hole golf course with two 18's (East & West). West course is fun and challenging if it's your first time playing. Holes tend to run along side of each other (which makes it seem like there are a lot of people around at all times). Because of the location of the course it also tends to get a little crowded. Pace of play is very random but I don't think I've ever finished a round here under 4 hours and 15 minutes.

They have a very spacious driving range (slightly uphill) which is across the street from the course.

The Staff is extremely friendly and make the experience that much better. I only gave it 3/5 stars because I still don't think the course is close to Wente Vineyards, Roddy Ranch, Deer Ridge, etc. To me, it's more like Diablo Creek or Boundary Oaks.

Great course, beautiful area

Very nice course, very challenging. Lots of fun if it's your first time or if it's your regular course. A few of the par 5s here are tough (from the Blue tees); hard to reach in two unless you absolutely smash two shots!!

Staff is good, pretty friendly. Pace of play is decent here, it's hard to expect a 4 hour round when there are lots of places to lose your ball. Never had a problem with being 'backed up' on this course but at times you'll be waiting for the group in front to find their tee shots!

Definitely gets easier playing this course the more you play it, the first time it's hard to figure out where some of the holes go (which obviously makes it challenging), one of those course you have to take good notes on for the next time!

The setting here is absolutely gorgeous. No complaints about the area of the course conditions. I used to be a member at Oakhurst Country Club (in Clayton, CA) and this course reminds me a lot of it.
