Brentwood Golf Club - Creekside/Hillside Course
Played On 06/28/2018How times have changed
Brentwood golf club used to be on my regular rotattion but I had not played there since last year. Wow, what a diffrenece a year makes. This place was once a value/layout gem but now it is a disaster. Burnt greens, baked fairways, weed filled 'sandtraps' and water hazards completely covered with scum. It actually made me a bit sad. Appears the owners have just given up. A house along the 14th hole even had a large sign on the fence commenting on the disgracefull conditions. Do not waste your money. There are still many fine courses in the area that care about their conditions. Choose one of them.
Franklin Canyon Golf Course
Played On 06/16/2018Played Franklin Canyon yesterday with my son and 2 others. Knew we might be in for a long day as it was a Saturday and the group in front of us seemed to be new to the game. But thats not a problem as long as folks try to keep pace and maintain the etiquette that makes golf a great game. But as I was standing on the 8th tee after over 3 hours on the course and asked a marshall for assitance in asking the group ahead to try and keep an appropriate pace of play (they were 1 and 1/2 holes behind the group in front of them at that point) I was not helped but lectured about how 'everyone has their own level and pace of play'. Wow, no concern for the dozens of players behind these guys whose round was being ruined. Pace of play is the number one problem in golf today and this marshall, whose whole existence is to keep things moving on the course, just blows me off. Have them skip a hole to catch up for heavens sake, thats the norm most everywhere else. Very unfortunate that a decent course 10 minutes from my home will never see me again because they wish to maintain the unalienable right of they few to ruin the day for the many. I won't be back.
Deer Ridge Golf Club
Played On 08/03/2016Great bang for your buck at Deer Ridge
Deer Ridge is a quirky , little (6300 from the blacks) course and fun to play. It is in good condition and typically the pace of play is great. The best thing is the amazing bang for your buck you get here. I played for about a dollar a hole with cart included. There are 4 courses within a couple of miles and that competition keeps prices way down. Give it a try.
Rancho Solano Golf Course
Played On 9/11/2013Back after a long absence
Hadn't played Rancho Solano in quite awhile. It had once been in my regular rotation but recent the lack of 'incentive' pricing had led to a long layoff. Hey, competition is fierce among courses these days and I demand bang for my golfing buck. Found a decent, not great, deal on Golf Now and gave it a go. Must say the course is in great condition and has under gone improvements since I last played there. Pace of play is still an issue here, a result of a combination of course design and simply slow players. But for me anything over 4 hours is a disaster so YMMV. I will be back if the price is right.
